If I could do two and a half stars, I would. We decided to do a cruise, which was not something we had ever done before. We decided on this ship because it was well priced, out of NYC (which is where we live), recently refurbished, and Carnival has a good reputation as being a family friendly cruise line with great kids amenities. The Good: The stewards and other staff were lovely. Very nice and friendly. The Bonsai Sushi Restaurant was very good and well priced. Lucky Bowl was a terrific lunch time option if you didn't mind eating soup for lunch when it was 90 degrees out. The lobster rolls were good at the seafood shack, but also had an additional up-charge. The fries were consistently excellent. Chris Williams (the cruise director) was a lot of fun. Puerto Rico was an excellent port and we had a terrific time there. The kids really enjoyed putting on their bathing suits and watching movies while in the pool on the Lido deck. The Average: I was in one of the Port Hole rooms and one of the beds is obviously a sofa that is converted into a bed. It was very hard. My husband slept in the other bed which was far too soft for me. In room entertainment is very limited. Our snorkel excursion at Grand Turk was fine. Trivia contents we mostly esoteric and not real competitive trivia. The Bad: Honestly, where to begin? There were lines for everything. The ship is very poorly laid out and very cramped. They said the anytime dining and the set time dining had the same menus, but they did not. My kids (7/9/10) HATED the kids club. After the first day they referred to it as "baby jail" and refused to go. The reason for this cruise was the great amenities for kids. While they liked the water slides and the ropes course, that was about it. For a ship that was recently refurbished, it was very run down. Sewage smells in the hallways, the sprinkler head in our cabin was held on with duct tape, doors did not close, things had already fallen off the walls and elevators consistently did not work. Restaurants: (in order of appreciation): Bonsai Sushi (mentioned above) -- up-charge Fahrenheit 555 -- up-charge. The Waygu beef was excellent, the lobster bisque excellent, and that was about it. It was as good as any third tier steakhouse. The service was OK. Seafood Shack -- up-charge Excellent lobster rolls and fries. The crab was meh. Avoid the oysters. Lucky Bowl -- Included VERY good, as long as you are okay with soup on a hot day. Cucina de Capitano -- Up-charge. Pretty consistent pasta place. Not sure why there needs to be more than a $5 up charge on this. Hit or miss at lunch (when it is free). Meat Lasagna was odd. Felt like it was made with brisket. The Pizza place (I can not remember the name) - Included. It's good. Sunrise Restaurant -- Included. VERY hit or miss. The service is slow. The waiters mostly didn't understand special requests and you would have to ask multiple times. The food went from absolutely awful (salmon my first night...sad shrimp cocktail) to delicious (my kids loved the pork chop. The chicken breast was very good). Avoid the fruit "soups". They taste like melted ice cream. Brunch here was surprisingly good, however, and I highly recommend the brunch spaghetti. It was delicious. Guys Burger Joint (burgers) -- Fine for burgers. Tastes like fast food, which is is. Blue Iguana (Mexican) - Not great. BBQ Place -- never tried. Deli - (hit or miss) Lido Marketplace - AWFUL. Badly laid out. No concept of line management. We did this as infrequently as possible, but it made all the other restaurants around it feel cramped and uninviting. The food was truly awful with the exception of the Indian buffet day for some reason.(I tried it that day as a joke and was pleasantly surprised). I will not do a carnival cruise again. avoid. So we chose this cruise because I liked the idea that it was refurbished and it looked beautiful with lots to do. We are 5 people in an oceanview room. First, embarkation was fantastic! We parked in the manhattan terminal parking and from the time we parked to the time we got on the ship was maybe 20 minutes all together. Easy! Our room wasn’t ready yet since it was only around 12:15 so they tell you to go hang out near the buffet they are serving lunch. First of all I’m glad we check our luggage and didn’t bring it with us while we waited because the buffet area was PACKED! I mean really bad and my first thought was this is going to be a miserable 8 days with all these people here. We finally found a seat but didn’t bother getting food because the lines were outrageous. Finally our room was done around 1:30. We get to our room after waiting for the excruciatingly slow elevators and we are on deck 2 aft. First thing I notice is our room is very very warm! I like a nice cool/cold room in the summer and this wasn’t even close. We met our room steward and immediately tell him about it thinking he would see if I didn’t have the ac on the proper setting (we did, it was as cool as the ac would go). Ok so I’m thinking once the ship actually starts and we leave it will get cooler in the room and the ac will actually kick in. So we decide to go exploring. The ship is beautiful. But yes extremely crowded. The pool area is WAYYYY too small for the amount of people, that the only times we were able to go and enjoy it was after dinner (we had early 6pm dining) so it wasn’t too crowded at that point. I guess most people were at the later dining or your time dining or at shows. Our youngest loves the pool and was what she looked forward to the most and we didn’t want to disappoint by not going so it was the only time we could really go. Any earlier and there were no seats at all and no room in the pool. The dining room was great our wait staff was fabulous, we thought the food most of the time was wonderful and the chocolate melting cake was insane!! We looked forward to going there every night. Guys pig and anchor located on deck 10 was fabulous as well and barely ever a line. Also guys burgers was great and the line moved fast, the deli always had a long line but worth the wait and also moved pretty fast. Never had too long of a wait. Overall we were pretty happy with most of the food even the room service which always said 45 minutes to an hour wait but it never took that long. We never ate at the buffet the lines were just ridiculous. I mean really bad except for one afternoon right after we got back on the ship from one of the ports we went right up to get lunch and there was hardly a line. The entertainment was great, the casino was fun, the kids enjoyed the game room although expensive and they spent too much money in there. The Dr Suess breakfast was adorable and worth the extra $5 a person. If you have little ones with you def take them to it. Back to the two worst parts of this cruise for us...the ac in the room never got better. It was always warm in the room. They came in twice to to check, had some little device that checked the temp of the room. The first guy just said he will fix it but never did so we complained again. The second time a woman came and said that the device was reading higher than 74 degrees and that she herself felt warm just standing there so she was going to have maintenance fix it and she was going to come Back the next day to check again. She never did. The ac never worked properly the whole cruise. She gave us a fan which I can’t stand but had no choice and used it anyway. After a long hot day of sitting on the beach at the ports or walking around shopping or just about anything, we like to come back to a nice cool comfortable room to unwind and relax before dinner but we couldn’t even do that since it was too warm. My next complaint is the rocking of the ship. I’m sure this is not the fault of carnival since there’s not much they can do if it’s rough waters but man oh man did I feel every single movement on this ship. Constantly feeling like I was swaying or rocking all day and night no matter which deck we were on. Those were the two worst parts for us on this cruise otherwise we had a great time and I would’ve given it a higher rating. We would sail it again if they could guarantee the rooms were cooler and there was less lines especially by the pool areas. Read Less

This is our fourth Carnival cruise and second time with our teenagers. The ship seemed very well maintained and clean. It clearly showed how hard working staff they have on board to keep the ship clean and enjoyable. My husband and I were also impressed at how thorough the staff was in cleaning the upper pool deck area each and every night. The extent of the staff draining the pool water nightly and literally scrubbing the entire pool and pool area was so good to see. We felt very welcome and most all staff was always smiling and very helpful. Our cabin was very clean and I always looked forward to coming back in the evening to a new towel animal lol. I cannot say enough about our stateroom stewardess Vasy and we hope this compliment makes it to her. She was very welcoming and thorough. She made us feel very comfortable and went out of her way to accommodate us and our teens which stayed in a seperate cabin. Dinner was amazing. There were many choices each night from your appetizer to the main dish followed by dessert. Another shout out to our service team in the dining room. Team Headwaiter Aldie, team waiter John and assistant team waitress Pascual. They were all so polite and thorough. We cannot say enough about them and again hope they see this and deserve a high five for all their hard work and pleasing the customers. My husband Tony and my son Nick and daughter Marissa as well as myself Bobbie Jo thank them all for a wonderful and memorable experience aboard Carnival Elation!!!! Read Less

This cruise was by far the most terrible as far as customer service. Dining room room experience was awful, had to wait 15mins for water, bread was very hard and food was not at all appetizing. Attitudes were displayed as if the wait staff was irritated. It was very stuffy, a.c. Was not working to full capacity. Bar staff in the club was awful, attitudes, very slow and unenthusiastic with the exception of Sean (China) Santosa (Indonesia)@ the red rum bar they were AWESOME!!!! Give them a raise!!!! The public facilities were at minimal use, the dryers were broken and washers half washed the clothes. Pool areas were congested, maybe consider an adult only pool area. Food selections were always the same in the buffet area. Debarkation was very very slow and not very organized. Not very pleased with this cruise. This was my 6th cruise, hope things get better. We have been on many many cruises, several cruise lines. This has been far and away the worst cruise ship and cruise we have every taken. VERY SMALL ship little to nothing to do. very ROUGH unsteady ride. Has not been redone. Exterior is rusty and pitted. Balcony is slimy, rusty and unusable. Windows are filthy. Covered in a rusty slimy thick film. Hair, body, cloths stuck to everything out there. The smell of facies and methane gas permeates through stained cabin toilets into the cabins and through the halls. Food in main dining room is terrible portions are small child sized which really doesn’t matter cause you don’t want to eat it anyway. You have to be up on deck by 6:15 AM if you want a deck chair. Ports of call are still devastated. Sad to see - nothing to do -very very sad. The only thing worth doing is the Chef’s Table which was lovely. On last day we were awakened by crew banging on door screaming to get up time to get off the ship. Paperwork said we could stay in room until 8:30 but staff wanted us out at 6:45am. Thank god we were already up and dressed couldn’t wait to get out of the hell hole. Disembarkment complete chaos. Unorganized. Takes quadruple the amount of time as any other ship we have ever been on. Simply put don’t ever go on this ship disgusting! Read Less

We chose this cruise as a family vacation for 16 of us. We love cruising and have probably done about 6 over the years, but this was our first Carnival cruise, and sadly will probably be our last. This crew is MISERABLE, never, EVER have I ever met a staff so UNFRIENDLY! Our only saving grace was our waiters, other than that, NO ONE ! Yes, we all have bad days, but to be down right rude to guests is unacceptable. For example being told, "Isn't that what the sign says?" (with a shake of her head) after asking a simple question at one of the stores on the Promenade, having eyes rolled at you by more than ONE staff member, or having pictures swiped out of your hand at PIXELS... What is that about? I believe this ship is severely understaffed, and yes, that will cause unhappiness with the crew, but honestly you expanded the number of guests to close to 4,000 and yet did not increase your staff (I asked, they didn't!). So, what does this result in? LONG lines EVERYWHERE (ex: food, and events), not enough seating to adequately meet the needs of your guests, oh and did I mention, grumpy, rude, staff? You go on vacation to get away from it all, this was a rude awakening for us. Every other cruise we ever went on had staffs that went above and beyond, and truly deserved praise (, to actually have my room steward ask we twice, "So, you mean you want me to come in twice a day?" ....LOL, ummmmmmm, yes, a steward straightens in the morning, and folds down the beds at night. What am I missing? Is this not a "Carnival" norm? This is a beautiful ship, and with all this being said, we made the most of this vacation. My issue is really with Carnival, we are long time Royal Caribbean guests, and wanted to give the FUN ship a try, but this was it for us. When you invite almost 4,000 guests aboard, the expectation is that it will be a memorable experience for all 4,000 on board, I mean after all, isn't that what they paid for? I understand this is my opinion, and others may feel differently, however, when 16 people in one group agree that this was the worse cruise experience any of us have ever had...I am glad I wasn't the only one to experience it. Like others, I was so excited for this cruise, and now that it is over, this is the ONLY negative review I have ever written. When someone as easy going as myself has a problem, believe it! Read Less

Booked this cruise for my grandson's 16th birthday celebration. As we live in NJ, a NYC departure was a no-brainer for convenience and, as repeat Carnival cruisers, my wife and I were looking forward to a typical Carnival cruise experience. My daughter and son-in-law and our three grandchildren had a less than satisfactory cruise with NCL last year and we assured them that Carnival would provide a much more satisfying and fun experience. Carnival did not disappoint with anything but the ship itself. Having heard about the expensive renovations being done to the ship, we expected to sail upon a relatively pristine cruise ship. While one can understand that companies need to maximize profits, it was apparent the "renovations" were not to the ship's systems for additional passenger's comfort. Rather, they were simply for additional passengers. The ship clearly shows it's age. More rust shows on her than I've ever seen on a cruise ship. Our cabin door had a damaged balcony door handle which physically needed to be positioned properly to latch. Our shower head fell onto my head while showering, requiring a maintenance visit. Closet motion-activated lights did not work. None of this was a deal breaker but one expects a Grand Suite to be, at the very least, grand. We worked around it. Not sure what the problems were with the air conditioning, but it was sweltering throughout most of the ship for the first day and a half and marginal after that. There was no relief from the heat sailing out of New York. Throughout the entire cruise, we got not one drop of cold water from our sink and water pressure was sufficient but not what we are used to aboard other ships. It is impossible to overstate the crowded conditions on board and the apparent lack of thought given to the design with which the movement of that number of people would be handled. Navigating most Carnival ships is fairly straightforward for passengers. Not on this ship. Two major choke points exist on the Lido deck between the interior tables and the pool area. To make things worse in these areas, coffee and drink dispensers are located therein. So, in an area through which two people might barely pass, lines formed for drinks, making it almost impossible to get through. As experienced cruisers, we know to avoid the Lido during peak times and that was especially important aboard the Sunrise. Seating seemed very difficult to find. We chose to avoid the buffet most days due to it's limited size and the resultant incredibly long lines. The dining room for breakfast was our preference and the specialty fast food venues like Guy's Burgers, the Deli and Lucky bowl were lunchtime choices. Everyone in our group was more than happy with the selection and quality of food served in the dining room. My grandson has a deadly food allergy and he was given special consideration in that he was able to see the following day's menu and select those dishes which interested him. The chefs then prepared his meals separately and he had a very enjoyable dining experience throughout the cruise. The seating in the Limelight and Liquid lounges seemed adequate for the numbers of folks we observed attending the shows. Bar areas had plenty of seating and the Red Frog's size was a pleasant surprise. You might think by now that we didn't enjoy our cruise. Nothing could be further from the truth. My wife and I had a wonderful time and my daughter's family swear they will cruise Carnival again. My grandchildren said it was one of the best vacations they have ever taken. Carnival's secret weapon is their people. Folks like Chris Williams, the cruise director and his fun squad, the dining room personnel and bar staff, room stewards and other ships personnel make Carnival our choice. We find the vast majority of ship's complement with whom we interact to be welcoming, smiling and friendly. I have read some reviews in which ship's personnel are described as rude and unresponsive. We have had absolutely zero experiences like that. However, there might be an explanation for some crew frustration: Pat and I normally cruise in late spring (April-May). Young people are still in school at that time of year. By necessity, we cruised in July this year. Never again. During this cruise, we were witness to some of the most arrogant and disrespectful behavior we have ever seen. Teenagers running down hallways and pounding on stateroom doors as they went, wrestling and throwing things at each other in elevator waiting areas, verbally abusing ship's personnel, sitting and blocking stairwells while eating and refusing to move to let people by, leaving their plates of unfinished food on the stairs, screaming obscenities, etc. I don't think we would ever cruise the Sunrise again but we would certainly cruise Carnival without hesitation. We cruised out of NY since it wasn't too far from home. We had an interior room on deck 2 (2295). We were mid ship close to the elevators, when things were happening in the lobby it got pretty loud in our room. My mom was also on deck 2 but at the front and didn't hear anything. The first night we hit rough waters which lasted into the 2nd day. After that we were fine. I was nervous reading all the bad reviews. Areas can get crowded at peak times (lunch, dinner, shows and certain activities) nothing more than normal. You do have the deck seat savers that get out at the crack of dawn to save seats for them and their party. I had to get up early if my kids wanted to go to the Water Works just so we could get a seat near so I could watch them. Buffet was average, we went to the dining room most nights. The cruise director, Chris Williams (Flying Scotsman) was the BEST! He was awesome, very entertaining and funny. Go see his show, The Flying Scotsman, so good. Entertainment was good. We saw Vintage Pop and Latin Nights, We participated in some games and had an amazing time. The Playlist Performers are great! Don't let the negative reviews scare you away. This ship is great and we had an amazing time on it. Read Less

Honeymoon, no airfare required, Platinum status with Carnival this cruise seemed like a great option. 2 days prior to sailing we got call to upgrade from french door interior to balcony for $300 total. Since this was our honeymoon sailing we did it. The entire cruise I received all paperwork for another couple. Our room steered even called us by these names when we finally met hi m on day 4. Despite going to guest services several times, the name confusion continued until the last day when we received a bill in the other peoples names. Once we met the room steward, he'd did a good job, our room was clean, but there was no interaction with him or friendly banter. He did write a Happy Honeymoon note on the mirror on day 5 and they were a few towel animals during the week. Room was comfortable, balcony very rusty, bed very comfortable. The headline shows were AWFUl, the cruise director phenomenal, Take Two and Coconotes Band were very good as well. Overall the safe was present, but not friendly, warm or welcoming with the exception of a few bartenders. The overall dining experience was terrible. Food served cold continually. overcooked or undercooked. Tablecloths only on formal night and no type of dress code is at all enforced. Drink service was very slow in dining room and the buffet food was awful. The best places to eat were the taco/burritto bar and Guys Burger joint. The pizza was even gross. I watched the entire cruise officers pass by passengers without even a smile or a nod. We resorted to paying for there steakhouse for the last two nights and the food was good, but the service was extremely slow. I am not a news cruiser and I rarely feel as passionate as I do writing this negative review. My honeymoon was not acknowledged and my platinum status was not either. So disappointing. I am booked on the Sunrise in November and I think I am going to cancel. Read Less

I’ve been on a few carnival ships but Sensation would have to be the most boring that I’ve experience. This ship lacked entertainment!!! Although the cruise director Dion was very entertaining and super funny and friendly, the ship did not have much of anything going on while we were at sea... they not only need more shows but more variety. There was one nightclub(hip hop every night) which was only entertaining for the younger crowd that jumped in circles around each other the entire night. The pool (only seen 1) was occupied by kids the entire trip. The 2 shows I did attend (I don’t speak Spanish) were only 30 min long. Although The Dining area served the same menu as the buffet area every night we dressed up and ate there every night because they promised to sing happy birthday to my friends as we were on the cruise as a birthday trip. IT NEVER HAPPENED! We advised the host several times of this and she kept promising it would happen the next night, then the next night. Overall, I think this ship/cruise is best if you are looking for kid cruise! Read Less

Summary. We are a party of 10 cruising – 6 adults, 4 teenage girls. Overall positive experience, found the ship and staterooms to be clean, friendly staff overall. Enjoyed the restaurants over buffet. The crew works very hard and deserve the gratuities. Many pros/ cons and key recommendations to help plan your trip! First the positives: 1) Download and use the carnival app. It’s a great way to communicate (chat plan) with your party and source for the daily activities, restaurant hours, and ability to monitor your daily portfolio spend. $5pp for entire cruise a bargain! 2) Excellent room upkeep and service! Room steward will quickly know your names on day 1. Offer to clean your room 2x a day or 1x a day, your choice (and you note this on form day 1). 1x in the morning was fine for us. Tip them! 3) Cruise director / Emma is great. “Hello lovelies” will stick with your after this cruise. It’s really funny when she laughs at herself with this unique chuckle and then the audience laughs at that. She is really fantastic. Oh yeah, she is from England. 4) Food in restaurants is pretty good! Dinner and breakfast. Now the negatives: 1) Entertainment for most part sub-par compared to other cruises. They do work hard and try, but seems budget is limited. Limited to comedians, lip-sync, customer engaged event shows, and few production dancing shows. The 80s show was fantastic and a must see! Finally some better comedians came onto the ship last few days. Emma cruise director is doing a fantastic job trying! 2) Very noisy areas in main pool area and much of the ship in general. Loud speakers, kids running, etc. This is more of a kids ship and hard to find quiet areas for adults, but there are some hidden areas. See below. 3) Expect long waits for: Restaurants if you do ‘any time dining’ we waited 45min average given our large party of 10. Expect shorter for 4 or less parties. 4) Long lines at: Pizza Pirate near the adult pool. Expect 30 people plus waiting and 1 worker making pizza. Priority goes to the $5 delivery person so expect a wait for 30-45min to pick-up your slice of pizza. Late night pizza lines given limited food options. To management, can you not add another person making fresh pizzas to cut down this line? Tips & Recommendations 1) Install/ use the Carnival app. A bargain for $5 per person for entire cruise. Have everyone in your party do this and you can chat on the ship for meet-ups and know the hours for restaurants and daily activities for entertainment. 2) Bring your own cups (e.g. YETI) to fill with water, lemonade, tea, etc. at the 9th floor deck. The larger the cups the better. Fill them at breakfast and bring to your room. The little green and yellow cups they provide hold about 6 oz. of liquid. Ice is plentiful. Water refill at buffet area, poolside, or bars. Even keeps your beer colder longer! 3) Bring a 3-prong power socket extender. There is ONLY 1 power outlet in your rooms (well, another behind the TV and used for that). You will need to charge multiple phones etc. Or bring a portable charger for your phones. 4) Bring binoculars if you wish to see passing boats, distance, shore excursions, beach, dolphins, etc. 5) Bring a case of water or buy on day 1. You get 2 large bottles day 1 and that will go quick. 6) Wine/ Wine package. Bring your bottle of wine onto ship day 1 only, why not? Else, cost is $35 bottle average. The wine beverage package (3 bottles for $80 with auto-tax) is worth it comes to $26 bottle for standard wines (given auto gratuity) or higher price for premium wines. 7) Best quiet spot for a book or just snooze in the breeze. 3rd floor outside deck under the life boats. There is also the ‘Serenity deck’ for age 21 and up top floor front of ship. Can be crowded there. 8) For large parties eating together at ‘anytime dining’ send someone down to put your name down and get a pager. Will cut your time down for waiting from 45 minutes to 10 minutes. 9) Alcohol in general. Gratuity of 18% auto added to every adult beverage., expect $10 drinks average. The carnival craft brew was great. Value of getting $18 beer pitchers. 10) Teenagers can visit the sports deck for volleyball, basketball and hanging out with others. 11) Auto applied Gratuities for your team members: Vary by cabin, but example $112 pp in cabin allocated to restaurant staff ($55), room service ($35), and group for all others ($22). Posted 2 days before end of cruise, and you can make adjustments at the front desk +/- and allocation % to your preference. 12) Unless you buy/ plan for roaming leave all phones in Airplane mode. Friend charged $3000 prior trip by AT&T and even though I requested all our family to keep in airplane mode, daughter still activated for a few hours and AT&T sent us email for international data of ~$200 for Bahamas temporary use of her social media. Food options 1) Avoid the daily buffet (there is MUCH better options with the restaurant, else Guys Burgers, B-Que). My view is more of poor food quality and lacking taste at buffet and sanitary conditions. Do you really want to touch the tongs that everyone else on the ship is using to server their food including all the kidos! 2) Use the restaurants, they are excellent for breakfast and dinner. From salmon bagels cream cheese capers to steak (filet mignon) and eggs. Yumm. Brunch menu. Dinner options have extensive menu options. 3) Dinner Formal nights. Lobster on the menu for one night and filet mignon the other. Yes, you can get as many lobsters as you can eat! 4) Lunch: Recommend Bque restaurant on 10th floor. Across from steakhouse. Many don’t know about this place given a bit hidden. 5) Lunch. Recommend Guy’s burgers and pizza take out. Pizza is actually very good. 6) Lunch: The sandwich window, excellent meatball sandwich. All are actually great. 7) Breakfast: Eat at the dining room or order room service. 8) Free drinks stations at the buffet areas. Ice, Water, Lemonade, ice tea, coffee. Found the coffee was surprising good and strong. There is a custom coffee shop for $5 coffee, but my view is standard coffee is fine in dining rooms. You can also get coffee delivered room-service! We really enjoyed our cruse on the Carnival Freedom. The crew was very nice and everything was very clean. The main pool and water slides are also fun. The ship is not huge so the number of people on board is not crazy. So the lines are not to crazy. If you happen to go to their private island, Half Moon Cay the line to get back on the tender will be very long at the end of the day. So either stay on the beach till they tell you to leave or get back to the ship early. I would stay on the beach, it's amazing. Be careful on on the back adult pool though. The smoke stack drops something red and it will get on your cloths. However, if you bring it to guest services they will remove the stains and no charge. The food was good, the shows were awesome but be sure to read my review on our room, cabin 6368. Read Less

I am a former cancer patient. I entered remission just a few months ago and had my leg amputated. This was my first cruise. I want to start off with the musicians. There was music for everybody’s taste. But I enjoyed ALL of them. Luisa, Juliana and Juan in the Accidental String Trio were just...the only word to describe it was beautiful. Neil was singing and Jammin’ the reggae hits on the steel drums. And Rob was rocking it on the guitar. DJ JD with the hits. The Brassaholics with the amazing Maroon 5 medley. And the Latin Band covering latin hits. Emma, Layla and Francois brought so much energy throughout the whole ship. Vargus Mason with the jokes! T.A. Williams at the Piano Bar. Diana and other bartenders tending the bar at the Lobby very well, including the bartenders on Lido who also bring their energy to the ship. I tipped what I could. Next I want to say how much I really appreciate how kind, thoughtful, and caring the staff was. They always offered help. I don’t usually accept help but I made some exceptions. I also made some friends on the cruise. The whole experience is one to remember. They always had smiles on their faces, and always greeted as we cross paths. And as you’re reading this to all of the staff, I just want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. I hope I get to meet you all again. We had a great time, but there could /should have been more for the teen age group to do. For example there was a dodgeball tournament , but for adults. Kids ran around the ship a lot, unsupervised. There were several fights in the arcade that lasted long enough for my son to video and security knew nothing about it. There were tons if activities for adults and they were all great. The staff is excellent, very helpful, friendly and accommodating. The room was nice, clean and our steward Mudi, was great! At night, the room temp was warm and the air did not seem to be working at its fullest, but not terrible. Getting on and off was very easy for the cruise as well as for the excursions. Food was good and there was plenty of options and choices. Our cruise director marQ was awesome and heand many of the cruise staff learned and remembered many of the guests names. This made it very personal and fun as well. Excursions: amber cove- we did the horseback riding at Seahorse ranch and it was great. Horses are beautiful and Fausto, our guide was very informative on our way there. San Juan: the rainforest and Old SanJuan, very nice and interesting St. Thomas: snorkeling sea turtle cove, this was beautiful and we wish it would have lasted longer Grand Turks: the beach had a lot to do for everyone the water was beautiful. We had a 4 family group of 14 and could not have asked for a better cruise. We celebrated a birthday, a graduation and a couple of wedding anniversaries. The cruise director MarQ is a dynamo. I am not sure when this guy sleeps. As one of my fellow cruisers stated, if you aren't enjoying this cruise, you need to have a drink and relax. The food and service was wonderful. The Blush dining room staff was fantastic, "Som and YumYum" provided wonderful service and were loads of fun. Our cabin steward, Korn was wonderful. We could not have asked for better service, the room was alway clean and appointed. This ship was at full capacity, there were lines but they never seemed to take long. Embarkation was quick and simple. Debarkation was completely flawless, of course we handled our on bags as were were parked in the garage across from the terminal. Guy's Burger Joint and the Red Frog Pub were big hits with our crowd. The water slides were enjoyed by everyone from "57 year old me" to the youngest 17 year old in our group. The pools were very crowded, so you simply needed to step into one of the many provided showers to cool off. If you can't adapt a little I suggest you don't go on any cruise in the middle of the Summer, when every ship is at or near full capacity. The shows were a mixed bag, a couple were really good a couple just average. The string trio playing in the Atrium was wonderful, and the solo guitar player that played around the ship was very impressive. I would give both an A+. We took one excursion through Carnival, a catamaran sailing from St. Thomas to St. John, Honeymoon Beach. This was a wonderful sail with a fantastic crew, I would recommend it to anyone. Now for a tip, in Grand Turk, we took a taxi to Bohio Dive Beach area. All beaches in Grand Turk are public, so don't bother with an excursion. There was a store just up the beach selling beer and such, nice walk, nice water. Understand that there are very little in the way of amenities at the beaches of Grand Turk. If you are not adventurous just stay at the beach beside the ship and enjoy the crowds. On a final note I have read some recent reviews of this ship and wondered who these people were and what ship they could possibly have gone on? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but understand we had 14 people of various ages and the only complaint we could come up with was the one 17 year old had a hard time getting into the "18 and over only locations". Certainly not Carnivals fault. Did we cheat a few times? Of course! I sometimes think these people could not be happy with anything, or they are just trying to impress someone with how refined they believe themselves to be. Sorry for the rant, but we really enjoyed this cruise, even with the big crowds. Read Less

We chose Carnival Pride because the departure city of Baltimore is about an hour away, so no airfare required. Drove to the harbor and had to wait maybe 20 minutes for luggage drop-off and parking. Check-in went quickly at our appointed time. The walk up the gangplank is a bit of a hike if you're out of shape and lugging much carry-on. We splurged on this cruise because we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary, and were really happy with our Grand Suite, except the lack of outlets. See below for cabin review. But I will add that we LOVED having a nice big balcony, so there was no need to compete for space around the pools, all of which were extremely crowded, including the Serenity area. If I had wanted to be in the pools, I would have found that very annoying. Dinner every night was in the main dining room, where we took the late seating. Initially assigned to a table for 4, our dining partners moved to a table with a window, so we had the table to ourselves all week - yay! Wait staff was friendly and efficient, and brought us a special little dessert for our anniversary. Once hubby found out he could pick and choose entrees and sides, have dessert as an appetizer and take another dessert back to the cabin to eat later, he was a happy camper! I enjoyed sampling the more adventurous options - but overdid it at the start of the week and by the end of the week was keeping it simpler. I was a little disappointed that a number of guests did not comply with the dining room dress codes at all, even on the formal nights (a few wearing shorts, t-shirt, and baseball cap). I appreciate that the ship doesn't want to be clothing police, but it would be nice if people understand that it brings the experience down for other diners if they're dressed like they went to McDonalds. At least a polo shirt and slacks would have been a decent compromise (even though that's technically what's expected the rest of the week at dinner, right?) We mostly enjoyed our cabin, balcony, and casino. Line dancing on Lido deck was fun. Dr. Dre was outstanding as cruise director - so much energy and humor! But we didn't really partake of other entertainment or activities this time around - just wanted relaxation. Port #1 - Grand Turk: Excursion Deep Sea/Reef Fishing - We had a blast. Six cruisers on the boat, and we caught 3 baracuda! Had the option to stop trolling and go bottom fishing to catch more, but we were all having fun so we kept trolling for the big guys! Port #2 - Half Moon Cay: No excursion. Rented snorkel and enjoyed a little self-guided exploration. Port #3 - Freeport: Excursion - Ocean Swim with Dolphins! YES! This was so much fun - I highly recommend, even though it's pricey. It was a bucket list item. Swimming in the lagoon would be better for people not comfortable swimming in deep ocean with fins. Back on the ship - our steward Farry was really nice, and did a great job taking care of us. We asked for ice twice a day, and there it was! We blew up an extension cord (oops) and he got a replacement. Very efficient and thoughtful. Read Less

We arrived early for our 1 PM check-in time and were boarded within minutes. We had a balcony cabin, 5244. The view was great, the bed comfortable and cabin clean. It was very nice, but was a bit short on storage space for 3. We had an excellent wait staff. The food in the dining room was FABULOUS. The buffet was ok. Breakfast was a bit ho-hum, but not a big deal. Guys burgers was possibly the best burger and fries I’ve had in awhile. There was a 24 hour pizza, hand tossed and amazing. Drinks were good quality, but pricey. A tropical drink came to $11 with added gratuity. Even a beer rang up to $7.50ish. The entertainment was great and so fun. There were 2 deck parties with great music from the 70s, 80s and 90s that fit the typical cruiser very well. Dr E was the best cruise director I’ve sailed with. Having 3 pools on board helped to spread out the crowd on sea days. There was a perfect blend of activities and music styles for ALL to enjoy. There was a fridge in our room, we stashed our water we purchased ($4.50/12) and soda/ wine we brought. My 13 year old LOVED circle c club. I barely saw her all week. She made a ton of friends, which was great. Our first stop was Grand Turk. We shopped, swam in the area just off the pier and went to Margaritaville. Margaritaville had a fun pool party. Our second stop was Half Moon Cay...stunning, but we waited too long to get tender tickets and didn’t get there until 11:30. By 3ish, the island started clearing out. It was a scorcher and we were ready to get back onboard anyway. Our last stop, Freeport was the dud of the group. It is not pretty where you dock, at ALL. Really...take an excursion, we did dolphin experience/ snorkeling. Debarkation is late on this itinerary, however we were off 45 minutes earlier than advertised, consider rolling off your own luggage if possible. Also, the fitness center is sort of small. With the recent incidents in the Carribean and Mexico...I must say, I felt completely safe and everyone I encountered ashore was wonderful and friendly. I’ve sailed RCI and other lines, but I’ve been spoiled by Carnival. It was the best time I’ve ever had on a cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise for our ten year anniversary trip. We liked the itinerary and the six days worked well for our schedule. We flew into Ft. Lauderdale the day prior and stayed at the Renaissance Hotel. We have stayed here before cruises in the past. It’s a nice clean hotel and is right at the entrance to the port so it’s a very short taxi ride. We left the hotel around noon and were on the ship within about 30 minutes. Smooth embarkation. We are not the type to be the first people on board the ship and I think this helps as we have not waited in lines for the last several cruises. Half Moon Cay was our favorite stop. We slept in and hopped on a tender after the crowds died down. This beach is beautiful. We found two chairs pretty easily and spent a few hours in the water. The water is crystal clear and the beach is some of the nicest sand you will find. Carnival has done a great job with this island. The one big complaint is getting back on the ship. We went back to the tender about an hour and a half before the all aboard time and found an extremely long line. We waited in line for well over an hour before getting onto a tender. I know there’s only so many tenders, but standing in the blaring sun for that long is a real downer after a great day. Carnival needs to at least put up some shades along the long path people line up on. Next stop was Amber Cove. We booked the Terracross Off-road Adventure through Carnival. Melvin our tour guide did a great job and this was an enjoyable excursion. We are experienced off-roaders and I will admit there was times it was a little annoying when stuck behind a first timer. But I knew that from reading the reviews. I give this excursion 4 out of 5 stars. One thing to note at this stop is that it didn’t seem like there was anything to walk to other than the typical cruise shops. Last port was Grand Turk. We had been to this port once in the past and was aware of the decent beach and areas right off the ship. We booked a cabana through Carnival at the Margaritaville pool. This was a nice relaxing day. The cabana was nice with cold A/C and a comfortable couch. Service was good and the food and drinks were just ok. Typical of these type of places. We had late dining, which we prefer. The only issue is that you miss most of the shows. We don’t mind as we don’t really care to go to them anyway. Our waiters were the best we’ve ever had. We absolutely loved the layout of this ship and what it had to offer. By far our favorite yet. We spent a lot of time on deck 5 and found ourselves in the Redfrog Pub often. Naomi is an amazing acoustic performer, and she is often in there performing. This cruise had an interesting crowd for some reason. We have been on several Carnival cruises and expect to see all different classes on board. This cruise was particularly low. I can’t quite figure it out. I know Carnival has no control over who pays to take their cruises. There was several occasions where my time was disturbed by disrespectful people. There was a very loud cabin above us. It sounded like they were letting their kid jump off the bed repeatedly. A couple nights this continued after midnight. Then there was a cabin two doors down from us. They partied in their cabin with loud music and numerous people several nights. I’ve never understood partying in a small balcony cabin. There is so many places on a ship that you could have completely to yourself if that’s what you’re looking for. I saw security there at least once, and that was nice to see actually. I have also never smelled so much marijuana on a cruise. We have smelled it on probably every cruise we have ever taken, but this seemed to be everywhere. Then there was the announcements. We love to sleep in on our cruises. Especially when we get the chance to leave our son at home. I don’t think sleeping until 10am is unreasonable on a vacation. For some reason the cruise director, Simon, loved to make announcements at 9am. Although they are in the hallway, they are impossible to sleep through. Carnival loves using their loudspeakers. It’s often to tell you something that 90% of the cruisers don’t care about. On night 3 or 4 we were woken by two announcements about ten minutes apart over the loudspeakers in the hallway at 4am. They were announcing a persons name and asking he call guest services. Then about fifteen minutes later they did it again two more times. This time they blasted it through the speakers in every room in the ship. I can only imagine these poor people that had kids sleeping. I understand someone was probably worried about someone, but come on Carnival. This is unacceptable. We all know the guy is passed out drunk somewhere or is in someone else’s room having fun. There was no reason for this. Overall all, I had some serious disappointments with this trip but we still had a great time. This was our 10th cruise. 8 on Carnival, 2 on Princess. We are at a point that we intend on cruising twice a year, as we did this year. Unfortunately, I need a break from Carnival. I was really looking forward to getting that platinum status in the next few years. I’m afraid my wife is set on being religious Princess cruisers after this. We shall see, perhaps we return down the road. Read Less

We chose this cruise as a beautiful family getaway. I’ve traveled on several other ships and always had excellent service. Cleanliness smiles and great entertainment. This ship offered non of that. Not one good morning not one hello from staff. Everyone that works here looked miserable. I feel like I’m spending almost 9,000 for 5 people was a waste. I booked a room with a balcony because my husband is a smoker and is disabled just to find out that you can’t smoke on the deck The smoking area on deck 10 was terrible several people blasting music and dancing with their personal radio Floors by the pool were wet and no one was there to keep deck dry. Not to mention the sewage smell. Who wants to smell that while trying to relax on vacation. No pools for kids so the two pools they do have are all full of kids in diapers with life preservers kicking you because it’s so tight. The lido deck was a joke so unorganized. I tried to talk to the manager George but he walked away from me. Picture 40 people on a buffet line that doesn’t move. The one cook behind the line would carve one piece of meat and walk away to the hot line. No one should have to wait 25 min for food. The line for sandwiches was also a min of 30 min wait. They had one guy to prepare the sandwiches. This boat is grossly understaffed and it clearly shows with the staff and how miserable they are. We finally arrived at our first port so I called carnival and was told no one can help me. I wanted to get off the boat and fly home from Puerto Rico but wanted a partial refund of my trip from hell. No one helped me. The day I got home I received a call from carnival because I sent them an email. All I got was an I’m sorry and someone from guest services tried to contact me. Seriously people if guest services was trying to get a hold of me they would page you. If my Amex wouldn’t go thru I guarantee they would get. Hold of me. Stay away from this boat. Stay away. Book another cruise, it’s not a vacation, this experience only consists of many many lines. The buffet area is really small to accommodate all the passengers, the line is constantly very long to get food. People would take their time picking out what they want slowly in the pile of food which also delays the line. Then you have people that are afraid to line up again, (after about 15-20 minutes of waiting) They take piles and piles of food so they don’t have to line up for a second time and end up wasting food. In addition, they take all that food the tray is almost empty for others who have also been waiting. I must say the lucky bowl is quite fast and very good but they are not open all the time. The pizza is open 24 hours. The crust is really thin but it’s good. Again, the line is extremely long. A woman in front of me ordered 7 pies, taking all the pizza that was left. Everyone behind her ended up waiting another half hour for more pizza to be made. The burger place is good but the line is also horrible. The deli is not always open, you do have lots of options. Cold and hot sandwiches, but the line is horrendous. At the buffet, my mother in law wanted two pieces of corn so instead of lining up, we nicely asked a woman on the line if we could go in front of her to get it and leave. The lady behind her started getting loud and insisted that we line up. Her attitude was uncalled for and extremely rude. Everyone on that ship was there to have a good time, I see no reason for her to have yelled at us. We never had a problem letting someone just grab what they wanted as long as they asked. There are not much choices with restaurants, you have the sunshine and radiant, the servers are overly worked and you can tell they are super tired but still continue to do their jobs. I must say the waiters are doing their best to keep everything very professional. The food is not a big deal, and there are not much choices, but it’s better than lining up. All the other restaurants such as: Sushi, steak house ($38per person), and Italian food require an additional charge. Why is there an additional charge for food on top of the $6,000 that we paid for the 4 of us. We were all very excited to visit Grand Turks. What a disappointment. The beach is only a few feet away from the ships, leaving very little room to swim. The area is so dirty. There is garbage everywhere and a lot bugs crawling on the sand. I kept asking cruiseship members which chairs and umbrellas belonged to carnival-no one was able to answer me. Every chair we parked on some guys comes up to us harassing for us to pay $25.00. They said the beach chairs in the front all belongs to them and the beach chairs in back belongs to carnival. No cruise members there for us to ask and by the time we settled everything down we just gave up arguing with him and just paid him. On top of that there’s an area where these ppl have a horse tied up on this tree, the smell at that area I felt like we were in a zoo. San Juan is nice and all site seeing and shopping Amber cove my kids really enjoyed it cause the pool is big and nice. Plus shopping area is big. Entertainment; we’ve been to many cruises the cruise director, the Scotsman is okay. He told us when we see him say “Hi Chris” guess what when we see him he really don’t want to be bothered. In front of a big crowd of ppl he’s all nice and approachable but in reality he’s like don’t bother me! Same ppl doing singing and dancing every night, not too entertaining, magic show sucks just this one guy doing only jokes and card tricks. Juggler is a good show. Pool and slides: don’t bothered going to the pool it’s alway very very crowded. There’s only two small pools for 3800 passengers, WTH. Teenagers running everywhere. During the last day of cruise we had to call security cause kids where knocking on our doors running away. Then we saw them throwing ice cream cones on the stairway. We booked 6 cabins for a family reunion, the pulled out beds is so old and painful to sleep on it. I paid extra for a suite cabin, we have a couch that can turned into a king size bed, the most uncomfortable and hard bed ever. Aches and pains the next day. We made a complaint about the bed with guess service, they gave us a foam top that did nothing. Bottom line don’t spend your money on this cruise ship, the ship is small to accommodate all the guests. Everything they want to charge. They kept the casino open all the time so they can take your money. It’s the worse and last carnival cruise for us. We are done with them. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the port was New York which was a manageable drive. The embankment was annoying we sat in boiling heat waiting to get onboard for about 2 hours. Once onboard, we had to PAY for drinks and could not use Cheers pkg until the next day. The entertainment on the ship was great, talented dancers/singers, hilarious comedians, the folks running games onboard were friendly and personable. The karaoke was disappointing at times because usually loaded with kids- no separate adult sessions. The so called ADULTS ONLY area was impossible to use due to folks leaving their stuff there all day long. There was ONE buffet for the over 3,000 passengers(ship was overbooked). The wait to get food at the Buffet was usually about 20 to 30 minutes. The food in the main dining rooms where dinner is served was less appealing than the buffet so we didn't bother to waste our time after trying it a couple times. The room stewards were amazing because not only did they clean your room in the morning and at night, they gave you personal attention. Due to the poor design of this ship, you had to walk through the Casino located on deck 5 in order to get from one side of the ship to the other. While the entertainment and a handful of crew were amazing, the overall experience was unpleasant. In the end, the value we got for our money just did not amount to much and we would not go on this ship again. In fact, I am not sure we would do CARNIVAL again. Read Less

Before I get into the pros & cons of our cruise let me state that anyone who takes a Carnival Cruise and has a boring time or is left hungry it's your own fault!!! We are just short of being Platinum guests and we have experienced many levels of satisfaction on the Carnival ships we have sailed. We have been away from Carnival for two years due a very bad experience (Splendor) and Carnivals lack of concern. We (5 family members) are on the fence about next year. What we missed about Carnival and the reason we booked this cruise was that when you ended your cruise you left family behind. You really get to know your cabin steward, wait staff and ships crew. In this, the Sunshine did not disappoint. PROS We booked two Ocean Suites (7312 & 7314) the cabins were a first time experience as we always book balcony cabins. The cabins were a real treat and the cleaning crew on deck 7 was absolutely fantastic! Dining on the first day left us feeling disappointed, it was not what we were used to aboard a Carnival ship. However, they stepped up their game on the following days! The additions of Guy's Burger Joint and Pig & Anchor Smokehouse was a big plus. Having the option to order from the Steak House in the dining room was a good move! We did not go to any speciality restaurants this cruise due the good food & service in the dining room and we have eaten in them all on other cruises. My only disappointment was that I did not get the opportunity to eat at Bonsai Sushi. Entertainment aboard ship is plentiful and sometimes hard to decide between them all. Cruise Director Chris (The Flying Dutchman) was the best and most likely the top Cruise Director of any ship. CONS All the hype about the renovation of the Triumph into the Sunrise makes you believe that you are sailing on a new ship. Understand that when you book a cruise aboard this ship the renovation was mostly the addition of cabins that left little space for all the guests and many of the guests areas reduced in size. There are plumbing and hardware problems in the cabins. Indicators that much was left alone. Next to us was a Grand Suite that had a balcony door that slammed and a large family that oped and closed the door all through the day and late night. When it slammed close it shook two cabins (4 in total) adjunct to it. Our pleas to fix the door went unanswered. The toilet in our cabin (7312) did not always flush right away. Most of the time it would flush 1 minute after you pushed the button. This too went unanswered. Many of the windows on the ship have paint splashed on them. You would think that a 220 million dollar renovation would include the scraping of the new paint off the glass! On an 8 day cruise we ate at the buffet (Lido Deck 9) once. This was due the agonizing slow and long lines. Trust me, on a cruise you expect to stand in lines but not like these! I timed my time in line and it took me 8 minutes just to reach the plates and another 7 minutes at the food selection. The design of the new buffet area was extremely poor for a cruise line that specializes in moving large numbers of people. We were told that Carnival was aware of the problem and was making corrections. When? Deli was the same, always a very long line and slow service. You could not get a hotdog anywhere on deck 9 except the deli. Yes, I only had one hotdog in 8 days. Stay off deck 9 to eat and go to the speciality restaurants or the dinning room aft. Serenity area for adults was a bust! very small and no shade! Again due to max profit of cabins over the guests comfort or spaces. There is also a noticeable reduction of crew. Fewer bartenders and servers, many bars are closed and only open for short periods. Will we sail aboard the Sunrise again, no. The Carnival Victory is a sentimental ship as it was the first ship cruised from. It too is about to undergo a renovation and come to NYC in July of 2020. I hope Carnival does not make the same mistakes with this ship. Overall, Carnival gives you the best deal for the money you spend. I'm critical only because we are Carnival cruisers and as such see the changes. Read Less

I was disappointed to say the least especially when comparing this cruise to Norwegians’. There was only one iron per floor. So you had to go to a specific room on your floor and wait to iron all your things. The spots in the ship that probably needed the most AC didn’t have like the lounge for example. It would get so heated in there. Yet the casino and other parts were uncomfortably cold. The food wasn’t the best quality and there wasn’t a ton of variety or culturally diverse. People were smoking weed and continued to smoke even after receiving notices about it. Not sure how that even got on the ship. All rooms should have a window or at least a picture window. I don’t feel it was worth the cost and now sure how the ship was made but I could feel the whole boat rocking the entire time regardless of the deck number. The buffet, cantina, pizza, etc always had such long lines. I mean like 15-20 min wait standing in the heat. There also weren’t as much cool activities on the ship or much variation from day to day. It was hard to ever get a chair by the pool or go in the pool because it was always so overcrowded. Read Less

The fun staff were great; they always had us all laughing and dancing. Some of the activities on the itinerary did not look interesting at first but once we got there we always had a good time. The dining experience was pleasant and the staff were great. The food in the dining room could use a little more seasoning though. David's steakhouse was amazing. Our cabin was a little banged up but clean. We had a great view of the ocean from our balcony. We could simply look out and there it was. The only downside was that we always faced the ocean and did not get views of the ports, even as we were leaving. Also a thing to note is that the sunset on the side we were on which was great but also made it a little hot and bright in the evening. Half Moon cay was super disappointing from the standpoint that they no longer have a drink package. In fact I asked at every single bar location and was told numerous times that they have not had that in a very long time (a few said that they have been there between 6-9 months and never heard of it). The same goes for the lobster shack which was not open at all. Staff told me that since they have been there (6-9 months) they have actually never seen it open. This means that your only option for food is the BBQ which is simply put...OK. If I want a burger I will go back on the ship and grab one from Guy's you know. The bird around the BBQ were cool until they weren't. They would attack food without warning. I think the most offensive part of Half Moon cay is the drink prices. Unless you stick to beer they serve everything in these little tiny plastic cups overfilled with ice and the price is the exact same as it is on the ship. Essentially you pay full price for about a half of a normal drink. There was not much to do on the island but chill at the beach and watch the fish, which for some is cool. Carnival's fun staff came out and ensured that we had music and hosted some more beach activities. The debarkation process sucked but only because people do not follow instructions. Embarkation was a breeze. Very fast, simple, and actually fun and exciting. Read Less
