This was our fourth cruise, the third one with Carnival. During embarkation, the baggage screener threw out my empty water bottle, while she allowed water bottles for all the other 5 family members with me. That started off my cruise on the wrong footing. Guest Services: There was always a long line at guest services. I had to wait more than an hour. For the most part, they had only two people at the desk, at times only one, especially on the first day of the cruise when they would be expecting more guests at the guest services desk. Carnival Hub App: The app is great if it works. I paid extra for the ability to use the Chat feature to be able to communicate with the rest of my family. The chat did not work couple of times. When reported to the guest services, all they could say was that they have made a note of it. How difficult would it be for the technical staff to keep a tab on something as simple as an app and ensure that it is working at all times especially when guests depend on it to communicate Cabin: Cabin was great and the housekeeping crew did a good job. However if the lid on the toilet was kept open it would stink like urine all the time. Dining: The food variety on the Lido deck was mediocre, especially the desserts. The Sensation room dining staff seems to be overworked or busy to interact with guests. Some wait staff were simply rude or uninterested,, whereas others were great. So it was a mixed bag. Entertainment : Entertainment was so-so. The cast and performances lacked quality. Considering the ethnic diversity in the demographics of the guest, the main entertainment cast lacked diversity. Some of the fun staff were rude and acted more like celebrities than fun staff. Port and Shore excursions: The saving grace for us was the number of ports on this itinerary and the shore excursions which were good. Overall, other than the ports and excursions it was a very mediocre experience. We had cruised last year on a different cruise liner to Alaska. We did not feel like leaving that cruise ship, but on this one we were so looking forward to go back home. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we live in the Caribbean, and wanted an opportunity to explore other islands, and this was by far the most affordable option. We live in Barbados, and this particular cruise makes a round trip to and from the island, eliminating the need for a flight. Getting on and off the ship was a painless experience, and both the Carnival staff and the customs and immigration officers who work at the port are pleasant, efficient and professional. Beware of San Juan though - the immigration process was a lengthy wait. THE SHIP Being first time cruisers, we didn’t know what to expect, but it only took us a few hours to acclimatise to the new surroundings and get our sea legs. The Carnival staff were helpful, wearing “ask me” shirts for the entirety of the first day to ensure all the guests could ask their questions without feeling awkward approaching about staff members. The ship itself is on the smaller side, only made abundantly clear when we were docked next to another cruise liner, but this meant it was more manageable to navigate! The decor was a bit outdated, but the public areas were always clean and inviting. They have so many activities going on at the same time, and they make do with the space they have, so don’t be surprised when you’re walking in the hallway and have to make your way through a crowd of people listening to a band playing IN the walkway itself. CABIN We selected a twin bed cabin with an ocean view and it was the perfect size for two people. The layout of the room maximized the space and it did not feel cramped at all. There was plenty of storage space and the bed was very comfortable; a welcome sight after a long day exploring. The windows were clean and with minimal sea salt on the outside, so we could take a picture of the sunrise or sunset or port of call through the window without seeing any little smears. (Perfect for when you’re feeling lazy and don’t want to leave your bed). The towel creations were cute and the steward assigned to us was awesome at making the room feel like a fresh new start every day. Before we even met him, he knew our names and throughout the cruise would make a point to greet us if we saw him out and about. Very friendly and pleasant. ENTERTAINMENT and SHORE EXCURSIONS Our cruise director on board the Fascination was Mel, who was a young lady with boundless energy - the definition of hype. She was part of the fun team, and did a great job at making sure all the entertainment was engaging and enjoyable. Every day, a “fun times” package is slipped under your door with the activities planned for the following day, and there is something for everyone. Art auctions. Bingo. Karaoke. Dance parties. Trivia. Casino. Comedy nights. Board games. And these are the planned events. There are many more things to do just by walking around the ship - giant chess, pool, spa, mini golf, water slides and even a small library if you want a quiet moment to read. But as much as there is to do ON the ship, we booked this cruise to experience the islands, and there was something exciting on every island that we visited. So many options of shore excursions to appeal to people of all ages and particularities. You want to ATV across the island? Check. Take a bus tour? Check. Lie on a beach? Check. Swim with turtles or dolphins or rays? Check. Zip line? Check. Shop? You bet. We enjoyed all of our ports of call, and while it’s out of Carnival’s control, the guide really does make a huge difference re: the quality of the tour. The shore excursions are locally operated and the companies work with the cruise line, so while Carnival makes the connection for you, they don’t have control over the individual who takes you on the tour. It’s the luck of the draw who takes you out to visit the island, so cross your fingers for a good guide! Because we embarked in Barbados, the shore excursions did not show up on the carnival website when we booked, so do not be alarmed if this is the case for you. When you board, you can book on the ship, with low chance of the tours being filled. Also, because we boarded in Barbados, the carnival app did not work throughout our entire trip - “technical difficulties”. Hopefully they fix this soon. DINING There are several dining options included in the ticket price - both casual and slightly more upscale. The buffet, pizza, deli, burger and taco options (on the Lido deck) are all exactly what you would expect quality wise, so we were not disappointed. We enjoyed everything that we ate in the MDR for both breakfast and dinner. At dinner there is an option for “rare finds” for the more adventurous diner, and we had the opportunity to try some cuisine that we wouldn’t usually try (eg: frog legs). If you like sushi, Bonzai Express had some delicious options. You have to pay extra, $5-7.50US per roll, but it was worth it! We definitely gained our obligatory 5lbs over this trip! SERVICE One of things I enjoyed about this experience, was that on every employees’ name tag they listed the country where they were born. There are people from ALL over the world working on this ship - Philippines, Indonesia, South Africa, Mexico, England, the Caribbean, Australia, Myanmar, Columbia Serbia, and this list goes on. When you take this into account, you can be a bit more understanding when a staff member speaks to you in absolute earnest, but in broken English. I myself can speak only one language, and I think it’s awesome that they are expanding their horizons and learning a new language while they work! I would not be able to do it! Everyone on board was either cordial, pleasant, friendly, or outgoing. I received no bad service at all. Because we did not plan to spend the entire day on board, we did not buy a Cheers drink package, opting to just buy a drink here or there throughout the evening. If you have no intention of drinking alcohol while on this ship, be aware that the staff who work as roving bartenders are like Liam Nesson. They will find you, and do whatever they can to encourage you to have a few drinks. If you ARE looking to drink and have a good time, you will be well taken care of. OVERALL In essence, we were looking for a hotel that could move us around the Caribbean while we explored new islands, feed us along the way, and give us some entertainment options during the afternoon/evenings while we were on board. That is exactly what we got. 7 days was the perfect amount of time to spend on board, as towards the end we were starting to feel burnt out (as we went on excursions every day). We loved this cruise so much that we are looking to book our next one to visit more places. We had a lovely vacation and we hope you do too! Read Less

service was amazing. I want to compliment Nestor, our server for dinner. he made it entertaining and was overall a very cheerful person and made my cruise. the food was amazing and the first time I was full every single night. and trust me, I eat a lot of food. loved the different variations of food they had to eat throughout the cruise especially guy's burger shack. i loved that they had water slides on the ship so you had something to do on the sea day. cabin was always spotless and i loved the towel animals they made especially the heart on the last day of the cruise. i loved club o2 and all the activities they had especially the ps4s. the ship was a lot larger than i expected it to be. so first impressions, amazing. overall, i would definitely sail with them again and i would definitely recommend this to someone else. This was only my second cruise but I have travelled a lot. I decided to go along with my mom and aunt mostly because I was intrigued that we flew into Barbados to board the ship. What I didn’t know is that only about 200 people are exchanged at this port and the other 1800 get on at San Juan... this is what they don’t tell you! They cater more to those guests than the Barbados. When you get to San Juan there are no real excursions you can do as you have to go through customs to do this .. this wasted 2-3 hours of our day. Then that night when the rest of the guests are doing their safety briefing they send the Barbados guests to drink on them for free for an hour ... thank god at least for that because I felt like the day we wasted. Also if you wanted to do an excusion on your last day in Barbados the excursions will not drop you at the airport like they have arranged for the San Juan guests. The food on this ship was very good the dinner were awesome however the buffet was not stocked often enough and you felt like you were fighting to get the good stuff. The ship entertainment was fun to watch I liked the interactive shows. At some ports I would have liked more time and felt rushed to get back some days. My worse part of this ship was the room... there were loud noises every single night we were on floor 4 and the workers were doing stuff on the 3 rd every night waking us up. Also, we encountered some rude staff only 2 the rest were great ... but there was an awful statement made to my mom. We complained about these issues to the front desk and they were quick to pay for our tabs while on the ship which was a few hundred dollars which did make the ship more enjoyable. My favorite part of the ship was a band called under the covers! Man they are good and the girl can sing! Read Less

this was our 7th cruise with carnival. we picked this cruise for the ports. get on and off the ship was super fast we had faster to the fun. its a small ship but we been on other small ships before. we where shocked that there where no mini frige in the cabins. room was nice size bathroom had very little shelves space. at night it sounded like some one was vacuuming the floor above us. the buffet food was the worst we ever ate. also the main dining room food was just as bad as the buffet the steak was the worst cooked steak I ever ate.i left most on the plate. I had better food at old country buffet. there was very little entertainment other ships always had games going on this had some trival but that was about it. gym was nice very clean machines worked well. most workers where very pleasant and seemed to enjoy there jobs. I think carnival food is the worst in the industry. Read Less

I had wanted to visit the Caribbean Islands for the last 30+ years and thought a cruise would be an ideal way as we would have evening entertainment. The holiday included a 3 night stay in Barbados at the Savannah Hotel, where the staff were very accommodating. When I was sold my dream holiday by Virgin Holiday Cruises, it sounded fantastic and I took my 2 sons with me. My dreams were soon crushed. I had been told that the liner had been completely refurbished, it wasn't. They may have improved the main areas, but not a lot of the cabins. We were allocated a restaurant for our evening meal, it had set menu's. I can't eat spicy foods and don't eat foods covered in sauces, so asked for food without the sauce and spice that the staff didn't always understand because of a language barrier. They tried, but 5 out of 7 nights I had raw vegetables that were inedible and had a charred pork chop that was replaced and arrived some 40 minutes later when my sons finished their meals. My sons managed to find things to eat and tried some of the unusual foods on offer that were lukewarm. Entertainment was not what we expected as shows were repeated, what little there was of them to see that we were all disappointed. A short 45 minute musical show on offer most nights nights that was repeated later and again on our return trip wasn't that great. Comedy was a bit hit and miss, like the singers in some sections. The majority of staff were pleasant and tried their best to make our trip enjoyable, but other members of staff were down-right rude and condescending. Trips on offer on the cruise were overpriced by at least a third than on offer outside with alcohol drinks starting at about $11 each, so little alcohol was consumed especially when you had to add an extra 15% as a tip even if you got it from the bar yourself. On the 2nd day of our trip, it was unfortunate that someone died, at least 3 times a medic was called over the speaker system with no mention of it being a emergency. My condolences to the man's family. Over all, it was a very disappointing holiday and I wouldn't recommend. Read Less

This was my first cruise, and I wasn’t disappointed. The reason we booked this boat was the itinerary. It was a seven day cruise with only one day at sea, which was awesome. All the ports were great. The service was amazing. Everyone was friendly, overly accommodating, and just made everything that much more enjoyable. We chose the early dinner, which is the best option in my opinion, and the wait staff was fantastic. Our room was clean on a regular basis, and we got everything we wanted out of the staff. The food was good, but not great. I was really disappointed with the selections on the buffet. The entertainment was also just average. Nothing really stood out. The Decour of the ship is very dated, but this is carnivals oldest boat. I was also disappointed in the pool, which was very small. Overall, the excellent service made up for the lack of entertainment, and the quality of the food. I would recommend this cruise, especially considering the ports of call. Read Less

Embarkation was a night mare, cued for. 2 hours, to have documentation checked that had already been checked, staff very surly didn’t help anyone with problems I.e. couple from Trinidad made to leave the ship because they hadn’t taken an ESTA, never tried to help Just said they would not be allowed in Puerto Rico with out ESTA Ship old and in need of a through clean, rust every where and general in poor repair Cabin with balcony very sparse, no tea/coffee making facilities in cabin, balcony very small And full of water on day one had to ask for it to be drained, balcony was never swept of washed for the whole week. We chose free time dining, was only able to dine one in main dining room due to over booked eating times, Food was of poor quality not what we have previously had on other cruises The so called buffets was disgusting, only one station for hot food, had to que for 1hr due to size of people using buffet instead of dining room. The food in the buffet was not edible, always cold, cheap cuts of meat, and every one Picking food up with their hands and then replacing it back in the serving dishes, children Touching food, health and safety none existent cleanliness none existent, the only thing I ate from the buffet was a jacket potato because nobody could handle the inside. Entertainment poor The workers on board were excellent, over worked and tiered but worked and tried their best The only good thing re this cruise was the ports of call, never went on excursions because They were over priced Feel that I must point our that if you embark in Barbados when you call in at Puerto Rico You have to get off and go through customs again, we had to be off the ship early morning Walked appro 4 miles to customs had to stay off the ship till 1.30 then evening meal ran from 5.45 to 7.30 then every thing closed down until 9 to allow people who boarded in Puerto Rico to have life boat drill, so because we boarded in Barbados and had our life boatdrill in Barbados we were jeopardise by not having bar, or any other facilities We have travelled on many cruises and we will never cruise with this line again it was a complete and utter farce from the beginning Read Less

Worst cruise boat we have ever been on. Food was absolutely horrendous even in the main. Dining room. Served cold and same very evening. Even the dress up evenings, off which we went to 2...same cold horrible food...I actually lost weight... Our cabin had a engine noise that made it impossible to sleep. We reported it 3 times and then gave up... they do not care They push alcohol on you at breakfast lunch and diner ..every thing costs....nothing is complementary. Bottle of average wine 45dollars in dining room and then 8 dollars to open it...robbery. Entertainment was rubbish...seriously bad This boat caters for mainly American ,Mexican and Puerto Rican people..as Europeans we felt like aliens... Even in the ports the locals do not like this boat as they know most guests are on last minute specials and won't spend a dollar locally. Only saving grace was the ports...some were truly great stops , except st.Thomas and Puerto Rico ....rubbish and extortionate Got off and back on in less than an hour...waste of time We will stick with Norwegian one million times better quality and value. I've been on a bunch of cruises before, this had to be one of my favorites! Between the food, the entertainment, the Caribbean sights, I had a fantastic time. I went with a couple of my closest friends, and they were all having a great time throughout the whole trip. Our cabin was really clean, and we all slept like kings. We woke up every day ready to party and ready to explore new lands. The shore excursions were great, and we met tons of cool people. The food was pretty middle of the road, not going to lie, but none of us are picky eaters. The food was a little pricey from what I remember, but I wasn't really too worried about it. The entertainment was great, and the music was super catchy, very danceable. I'm literally still tasting the dessert I had the last night... We were pretty happy to remember that when we got back to our takeoff port, our car wasn't too far at all. I'd definitely rate Instapark thumbs up! Read Less

Maybe even add a 10 -14 day itinerary. The island stops were all fun and worth the visit especially ST Kitts with the Beulah Mills tour and St Marteen apv tour The Cherry blossom band and Vanessa the guitarist were excellent but shows in the theater need some revamping and should be put on more often , perhaps add some Island flavor as well . MarcQ is an excellent cruise director. The food was fine but needs some more variety , but service in the dining room is too slow, even though the waiters and attendants were always pleasant Our cabin was an interior one, very adequate and well kept, our housekeeper was friendly and attentive Overall it was a good relaxing trip and good value too Read Less

We're from the UK so embarked at Barbados after flying direct from London. This is the only Carnival cruise which has two embarkations (Sunday is San Juan, Wednesday is Barbados). We flew in the previous day, one night in a hotel, then taxi to the port at 12 noon the next day. When we embarked there were only 160 getting on at Barbados and check in was really simple and quick. Our luggage didn't take long to arrive. We had anytime dining which worked well. The staff were great and greeted you by name each evening. If it was busy you were given a small handheld device which vibrates when they are ready for you - we never had to wait more than about 20 minutes. We chose a sharing table each evening because this is a brilliant way to meet other guests. Every evening we were sitting with different people which was great. The food in the dining room was good but the main courses could do with being changed more often, however the quality was good. We did have lunch in the buffet restaurant which had lots of choice and is open 24 hours a day. I liked the section where you could have a sandwich/wrap made up for you. You can get juice/water/coffee in the buffet at any time of day. We tried the burger place and found the burgers very tasty. Service was excellent 100% of the time throughout the whole ship. I liked the fact that when you passed a member of staff they all smiled, said hello and asked if you were having a good time. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. Our room steward was excellent - we did have a couple of small issues with our cabin which I reported and they were sorted out within a few hours. We loved the adults only serenity deck. It's right at the stern of the ship and had two hot tubs as well as loads of sunbeds. We met some lovely people here. Entertainment was varied and good. The cruise director (Marcelo) was lovely, as were all of his staff. We liked the piano bar and the shows in the Palace Theatre (especially the Love and Marriage show). The comedians were also excellent, although some of them need to slow down as they speak far too quickly and it's easy to miss the punchline! We both used the gym which was huge and had loads of equipment. There was also a studio with mats where you could do floor work. We also used the spa and my husband declared his full body massage the best he had ever had. The therapists were lovely. We had a balcony cabin on the main deck which was an excellent choice as we chose to have room service breakfast every morning on the balcony whilst watching the ship dock. There is no charge for room service (apart from within certain hours in the middle of the night). The debark process at Barbados a week later was also quick and simple. If you want to you can stay on the ship until 1pm, but you need to vacate your cabin by 9am. All the islands we visited were great. This was a lovely way to see so many places. This was the first time cruising for us, but will not be the last. We had a great time and will be back. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it included 5 nights in Barbados prior to the cruise. It also included our favourite islands to visit. The other reason was we could fly direct without the hassle of USA airports. I knew the ship was older, but that was not an issue. Embarkation in Barbados was fine, not great but ok. Cabin, again was ok but no hairdryer. Unfortunately I had taken USA and European adaptors as we could both on previous cruises, my USA adaptors broke and European are no use on this ship. No shops, guest services, photo shop, cabin staff could help or sell me an adaptors. I thought this was strange. If you like burgers, pizza, tacos and all things fried you will love this ship , oh and queuing , because that's what you do every day, breakfast and lunch. The food is terrible. You can't even get coffee and biscuit after 8 pm. But you can get lots of fried food again. Entertainment was not great, but the band with the male and female singers were good. When you get to San Juan, you need to get off the ship and go through immigration, which we hadn't been informed of when booking and met in the lounge, herded off like school children and could not get back on for 3 hours. So we thought we would go on a trip as we had been there for 2 days on a previous cruise. No you can't do that as there are no excursions due to this being the main disembarkation point, on a Sunday with nothing open. This may be an affordable cruise if you are from the states or San Juan but not when you come from the other side of the world, I would not recommend this cruise to anyone. Very disappointed. When we boarded the ship the upper deck pool area was closed it was still being cleaned, the hot tubs on the lower deck were closed as well. The Spa cancelled my massage due to not have sufficient staffing. On our last day, the main deck had the lounge 80% of the lounge chairs stacked and were sanding the deck near the main pool. The Serenity Spa for 21 and older had 2 children there with their parents, at no time did staff approach them and advise this was an adult area. One specialty coffee shop with one employee working in the morning, made it difficult to grab coffee prior to excursion. Some buffets had several empty bowls and platters, lines got long as people waited for them to be refilled. One morning the buffet near the lower deck pool opened late, people complained due to leaving for excursion, it was opened but it was not properly prepared with food. Throughout the cruise the lights kept going out, once during a comedy show. The carnival hub did not work at the beginning of our cruise made it difficult to stay in contact with other family members, worked at the later part of the cruise. Read Less

We have cruised from New Orleans multiple times which mean mostly Mexico. This was our opportunity to try an eastern and southern group of islands. Embarkation: We took the Carnival transport from the airport. We like to carry our own luggage on and off so when the Carnival folks insisted we load it on to a truck we became concerned. We were put on a shuttle bus. The luggage did not arrive to our cabin until after 9pm. When we got to Embarkation, it was a zoo. Very congested outside of the cruise terminal. I'm not sure if folks were trying to board outside of the assigned window or poor management by port and Carnival. My spouse is not a wait in line person so we assertively moved forward. As it turns out, once past the initial choke point boarding was fast and smooth. Dining Menus: Steakhouse venue would be nice. Functioning beverage dispensers on Lido deck when passengers are present is needed. Restocking the sanatizer is essential. One night the menu posted outside of the dining room was incorrect The main dining room fare was typical of Carnival's American menu that we've enjoyed on prior cruises. I know some folks miss the white table cloth experience at every meal. It does not bother us. On Elegant Night(s) it was there as appropriate. I would recommend exploring the regional/Caribbean offerings. I tried the shrimp curry which was excellent. The baja chicken was good as well. I enjoy the cold soup offering on every cruise and this was no exception. The mango soup is wonderful. Our servers (Clara, Nestor and Marilyn) were exceptional and sensitive to our needs. Entertainment: Comedians Happy Cole and Jim Brick kept us entertained. We saw the early and late shows. The PG13 early show had some of the younger folks attention when it was obvious they wished to be somewhere else. That is quite the complement. We caught Larry's solo act on a couple of occasions. He did covers of music appealing to mature crowds (we are 70). The productions shows we saw were mixed. Divas had music we did not find particularly appealing and the volume was a bit too much. Considering I'm hard of hearing, that's saying a lot We did not do the Piano Bar, Latin Night at Passage to India, or the movies so I will not comment on them. The juggler was a terrific entertainer who engaged folks of all ages. A great act! San Juan Excursion: We flew in a day early and stayed at the airport hotel because at the time we booked (shortly after hurricane Maria) we were unsure of the status of other hotels. It was satisfactory with a pleasa staff. Sunday morning we took a cab into Old San Juan for a 2 hour walking tour we booked through Viator. The guide David Rodriguez-Otero with Tripolin.com was excellent. We met at a Starbucks and heard and saw about buildings, forts and the development of San Juan. Highly recommend David. St. Thomas: St Thomas was the is land where we observed the greatest devastation from Hurricane Maria. We did a Sonny Liston tour with Elvis as our guide. We had elected an early start and Elvis picked us up promptly and took us into a shopping area and gave us 2 hours to explore. Many 'barkers' outside of businesses trying to entice you to enter, A smile and a polite firm NO was sufficient. We did have an excellent reprieve at the Side Street Pub on Creque's Alley downtown. Expats Kim and Elise kept us in cold beer and snacks while recounting tales of the hurricane and recovery. If you find your self on St Thomas with some time you owe it to yourself to check out the Side Street Pub. Barbados: We did Copacabana Beach Bar for a beach break. No issue with getting umbrella and beach umbrella. We ordered a bucket of beer as soon as we arrived and happily sipped away. The kitchen did get backed up and we were unable to get lunch which was a disappointment. Staff was helpful and restrooms clean. St. Kitts: We had the greatest tour guide, Pastor Henry William, whose knowledge of the island was extensive. We booked the Grand Island Tour with Grey's Island Tours through Trip Advisor and included an a time at the beach. In our group only a young couple did the beach the rest of us elected to return to the ship. ThHill a site of interest to anyone with a bent towards military history was great. It did entail a significant number of steps uphill to the fort. The Wingfield Estate with beautiful gardens was a tranquil respite. Disembarkation: We carried our luggage off and were waiting for Carnival crew to unlock the elevators for trip down to the gangway. No problems. Due to Hurricane Maria causing damage to cruise port in San Juan, the Fascination diverted to Jacksonville for two cruises. I'm platinum and thought we would board quickly. Unfortunately, one of the people in my cabin booked within 24 hours of sailing which caused confusion at JaxPort. He had to go through security twice and none of the JaxPort staff really didn't know how to handle it. In addition, the wrong cabin keys were in our packet. It took about 40 minutes to board the ship. The ship was clean and the crew was friendly, but nothing really stood out to us. Marcello the CD did his best to keep everyone entertained, but I definitely prefer Matt Mitchum or Jaime Dee. The best part about the cruise was the 80's Glow Light party on the Lido deck. The food was ok, bar service was very slow like they really didn't want to serve you. The last night of the cruise we hit 8 to 10 foot seas. The captain never came on the loud speaker to prepare the guests for the heavy seas! Marcello did come on the speaker to say the bars were still open, but had to cancel one of the shows due to high seas. Just walked around Nassau and didn't even get off the ship in Freeport. Lots of confusion on debarkation. Lots of people blocking the stairs. Probably the most disorganized debarkation I've ever experienced. In conclusion, it was an ok cruise, but not a memorable one. Our entire immediate family plus extended family members chose this one as it was the only one that met the most of our requirements. It was a first for Gary and I at 65 yrs old. We flew into San Juan a day early, stayed at the Sheraton. Staff there were wonderful, especially the concierge. The man was so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We were on our way the next day. The ship was big enough to get lost on and absolutely beautiful. Our room was on deck 5 and "Sudi" and his group took great care of us. The room was spotlessly clean every day before we got back from any excursions, fresh water and glasses always available. Family members scattered at each island to go their chosen ways and one of the best memories was dinner when all 12 of us met at our table each day and talked about the things we did and what we saw. Not only was the food incredible (not only at dinner but everywhere), so was our head waiter, Rasvan, and those working with him. One of the BEST times at dinner also was the magician, Rakesh Regan. CARNIVAL - YOU"VE GOT TO KEEP THIS GUY! Shore excursions were really good. We stayed with those associated with Carnival mostly. The helmet dive and Atlantis submarine were highlights as was the tour with a guide named "Delisia", of the Botanical Gardens and Catamarand Tango Two on St. Lucia. A kayak trip was really good also. Everything about this cruise was what a REAL VACATION should be. I've never been treated better anywhere. When we began our cruise Harvey was pounding land north of us, at its end Irma was snapping at our heels. Our hearts go out to all the people we met of the islands, from the concierge and Sheraton staff in San Juan, to Juan, a very special bus driver on St. Martin on our last island tour. We pray you made it out safely. Read Less

We go every year on a cruise, this is our favorite way to have quality time with the family. Although the Fascination is a little bit older ship, the friendliness of the staff and the great food make everything very nice. The rooms are large enough and the comedy shows are outstanding. We had a comedian named Roman and he is too good to be true. For dinner go to the Sensation restaurant and ask for the team waiter Dushan from Macedonia, this guy is something special and makes your dining unforgettable. What a great professional, so far we had never such a great dining experience. We had fresh lobster, mussels, clams, salmon, tuna, the best steaks etc. This boat had people from all around the world and that made it so special, everybody was nice and having a party together. if you like the Caribbean islands, the Fascination visits the best ports. Thanks to all the crew &staff from Fascination for a great cruise vacation. Read Less

persons recommended it. So I thought why not try and see what the hype was about. First thing in the room the bed for the third person was like deck chair with blanket on it - very hard and uncomfortable. The king size bed was two beds pushed together and coming apart. The sink in the bathroom backed up and was very disgusting. However the cabin stewards Arlene and Zya were very nice. With their attitude these ladies should be in the Service Centre replacing the ladies tin the Sevice Centre who were very uncouth and unfriendly and not helpful at all especially on 26th July between in the am. The food lines were very long and lacking in variety. Sensation Restaurant had long lines. This was the only restaurant we were assigned to. Otherwise slum at the Lido Deck for food. Entertainment was lacking, comedy not funny, shows did not cut it and music too loud. Everything was designed to see how much money can be gotten from you for the services offered like photograph and shops. The best part of the cruise were the island stops and the tours. Read Less

I needed a solo getaway and this was the cheapest cruise I could find. As you can guess, my expectations were low. I was mostly pleasantly surprised. My cabin had recently been redone and the bed was comfy. I wasn't into the entertainment except the comedy club which I enjoyed. A fair degree of chair hogging and table hogging by other passengers, so it was hard to find a place to be on the upper decks. It was a spring break week for some schools, so kids constantly trying to be in the adult only areas. Otherwise people were nice, and I didn't encounter some of the rudeness I've run into on previous trips. There were lots of groups celebrating things, and a low key relaxed vibe. My major complaint was the food, and the service in the main dining room was terrible. Our waiter ignored our table, so it took forever to get anything. We were still eating our main course while neighboring tables were finishing up dessert. After the 2nd night, I never went back. Which left me with the buffet, which was mediocre at best. Thank goodness for the pizza station, or I would have gone hungry for some meals. Aside for the dining room issues, everyone else was really attentive and great. My photos turned our really well, and I bought some, which is rare for me. I never had to chase down bar staff for a drink like I've had to on other trips. I did not do the drink package, but I think I only had four drinks the whole cruise. I like iced tea and it was included, so I didn't need the soda package either. I do wish they had the drink stations in other parts of the ship, or larger glasses for the water and tea. I did a snorkeling excursion at Cozumel. It was great, although the travel time to the mainland ate up a lot of the day. Next time I would choose one on Cozumel. I stayed in Miami the night before the cruise. Due to a miscommunication my hotel shuttle didn't get there until about noon, even though I had signed up for the 11:00 time slot. Embarkation went fairly smoothly. Be prepared to deal with stupid people. Many passengers seem incapable of reading signs or following simple directions, and you will always be stuck right behind them. So take a deep breath and you will get on the boat sooner than you think. I took an excursion to the Everglades on the way to the airport. I recommend doing this if you can instead of sitting at the airport for hours. I got through customs super fast. Read Less

Chose this ship for number of ports visited. They are very keen to confiscate alcohol. Not so keen on returning it. Profits increased substantially last year. It appears the money you are paying is not being used to provide facilities on the cruise. P& O are the same. This cruise stops at San Jan Juan which is the main boarding point. You have to get off the ship and get back on. We got to pick-up point for trip at 8 15. It didn't leave til 9.40. Nightmare. Barbados was even worse. We were told to get to room for 7.30 to 8. Ship did not dock till 8 so nothing could happen before then. We were given no information. The ship docked late and it was 9.;15 before we went through immigration on the ship. Why can't you do it when you get off? There are less than 200 passengers getting off. The food was generally poor. No fresh orange juice at breakfast. The seaday brunch was good and the wok-station. The entertainment was poor. There were no big shows. There were a lot of comedy acts. most of which were not very good. The cabin was very dated, Ancient TV. Read Less

This cruise was a long awaited vacation that was, for me, very disappointing. One of the first things I noticed when we went to our cabin was the dirty windows, just like others had talked about on some of the boards I read. I was sure that we would have clean windows as Carnival has heard about this before but evidently, it didn't matter that much to them. They did send a bottle of wine to my table one night but I sent it back due to the fact that one, my wife doesn't drink wine and two, I had no idea what it was for. When I went to guest services, they said they had been trying to contact me unsuccessfully and so they just sent the wine. The funny thing is I didn't have any contact from Carnival until I sent the wine back. It came in the form of a letter under my door that same night saying they were trying to contact me. From day one, the food was terrible. The flat iron steak on the very first night was so bad that no one could eat it. The omelet station was always backed up. There was one person cooking and three people standing around watching him. This was the norm for the dining staff. Eating on the Lido deck for breakfast was okay if you could find something that wasn't grease soaked or smothered. The staff was rude, ask for a pancake, they flop it on your plate, no greetings or acknowledgements. One morning a girl working on the Lido deck reached over my plate in front of me and grab food off the pan and just walked away like I wasn't even there. Forget table service. They would walk pass a table of finished plates and not clear them 95% of the time. On Valentine's Day, our full sea day, we decided to go to the art auction. Big mistake! The girl doing the auction decided it would be fun to throw bags of candy into the audience and whacked my right in the top of my forehead. Good thing I'm short or she would have hit me in the eye. I was so embarrassed and shocked. She did apologize but for some reason, she still thought throwing things to the audience was okay because she continued to do it. Of course, Carnival didn't seem too concerned when I expressed my concerns to guest services because they didn't even contact me after I spoke to the person at the guest service desk who said she would get a supervisor to talk to me but when she came out of the back she just said they said ok. She seemed concerned but and as surprised as me that they weren't interested in speaking to me in person. But, I later found out that the person who hit me was the department manager. And guess who they take up complaints with, the department manager. The best service on this entire cruise was out room steward and staff. Always clean towels and bed made. I didn't fell like there was much for you to do when on the ship. A few trivia games only made fun by Jay Jay and okay comedians. One night of a very fantastic singer that I forgot his name but he did Motown hits. Lastly, the smoking area on this boat was a bit ridiculous. For such a small boat, there was a lot of smoking area. Of course the casino was like a smoke pit when it was open but there was also a very large bar area next to the casino that was smoking so if you wanted to go on that side of the ship, it was hard to avoid the smell of smoke. I don't remember this on other boats but half of the pool area was smoking. You had to go through this area to get to the Lido dining and it could get a bit congested on the non-smoking side. Carnival Fascination. This review is based on this one experience so I have nothing to compare it against. Let's start with the good a) the food quality was good (and see below) there was lots of it b) the ship didn't sink (at least I think that's good news) c) disembarkation immigration process in Barbados was quick and efficient Bad points a) The ambiance of the ship b) The culture (for want of a better name) or style of the cruise c) Baggage retrieval is slow (must be a Caribbean thing) d) Customs in Barbados took an age -just as well our bags took two hours to be delivered. I think a cruise ship (and I don't know if they are all like this) as "A machine designed to separate passengers from their money" everything appeared to be extra and expensive. Overall it strikes me as an aquatic feeding frenzy on two legs. Decorum is clearly not a word familiar to many of the passengers - best described as overweight/geriatrics's/care in the community - well you get the picture. We named them listers not 'A' or 'B' listers but those capable of making the ship list. The people who introduced shows or ship announcements sounded like some pantomime character constantly asking you to shout louder when saying hello as if that had some miraculous effect on what was to follow. Most passengers did so I suppose it makes them happy. State room! - It's a cabin whatever it's called and small at that. Stateroom implies grandeur quality spaciousness etc on this boat 'state room' is the very antithesis of that. Not enough room to swing the proverbial cat (no naval pun intended) Not spacious I mean it's not 'hot bunking' but it's close. The deck chairs have no room between them. I assume to Keep the 300lbs+ listers off them. There are a few passengers who like us wondered what on earth we were doing on that ship. Well I know one thing I will never cruise again unless its the only way I can get to where I want to go or I'm very very very old Read Less

We chose this cruise since the price was right and we, unlike most cruisers, boarded in Barbados. Most passengers boarded in Puerto Rico so we has a very easy time getting on and off at the end. First the ship; having been spoiled on the Glory and the Splendor, the Fascination did not meet the standard we were used to. The cabin seemed smaller but everything was clean and mostly in order. The lights around the mirror would not stay on and the one of the lights in the bathroom never came on. 4 out of 5 for the cabin. The ship was clean and easy to get around because of the smaller size. The casino was never full and we had lots of fun there. The gym was nice but did not have the forward-looking view of the Glory. Now for the service; here we often disappointed. The dining room was usually slow and the food was never hot. One night we were given pagers (I don not know ships had these!) because the line was so long. The ship appeared to be at maximum capacity and lines were normal. 15 minutes for pizza was not good service. They shows were very full with people sitting on the steps but Carnival made the Halloween night really fun and this made the cruise memorable. This is a busy cruise so if you are marking off the islands, you have six to tick. Some are better than others and I was really pleased to finally see Puerto Rico for the day. Ninety percent of the staff were pleasant and helpful and we did not feel slighted at any time. We met some great people on the ship and we hope to meet them on another Carnival cruise in the future.
