Uniworld stresses that they will honor special diets and require the client to call before the cruise to state those needs. There was no such record, nor were my diet concerns addressed, although lip service was paid, for the first 2 weeks of the cruise. I walked out of several meals because there was nothing I could eat. Not until my husband vociferously complained did anything get served to me that I could eat (not rocket science--just low salt). Uniworld says no children on the cruises, yet the captain's 2-year-old was on the cruise, riding his trike over clients' feet and screeching and riding through all the public areas. I went on this cruise NOT to be with children--yet here I had to endure it. At a mighty cost. No client is allowed in the wheelhouse, for safety concerns. Yet the captain's child and his strewn toys were in the wheelhouse. Uniworld says no wheelchairs, yet one client had one, and when that client was on a tour, the other clients had to wait for and assist her. Not what I paid for. Again. Ninety percent of the passengers came down with acute bronchitis. Uniworld turned its head at this, refusing to acknowledge there was a problem. I was blamed for not wearing a scarf around my neck, as to the cause of my illness. Hygiene on the ship is unacceptable, forcing clients to share serving spoons, with no enforcement of hand sanitizing or wiping down of the arms of dining chairs, repeated use of the same plastic gloves as cleaners move from cabin to cabin, spreading germs, and candy in jars into which clients stick their hands. To top it off, Uniworld made us pay for a cab to/from a hospital to treat the bronchitis. Really? The daily handout on things to do/see in a particular stopping point are mere cuttings and pastings that someone has slapped together and have little relevance. Why mention shopping and nightlife when we are stopping in a town for 2 hours during the day and have no access to such areas? Why state that what follows in the printout are 10 restaurants to experience--and just 3 are listed. Does no one even read what is dispensed daily? This trip was an unforgivable waste of my money. Uniworld should be ashamed. Read Less

Just returned home from Uniworld's Eastern Europe Highlight's trip. Five star all the way. Service is tops, ship - River Princess beautiful. One of the older generation ships so staterooms are small. However, very well designed and lots of storage. My favorite river cruise company and I am a Travel Agent. The ports were interesting and off the beaten track - we cruised from Romania - Bulgaria-Serbia - Croatia and Hungary. Got an interesting perspective on this side of of Europe - raw! Glad I saw cities that were not pretty and shiny. The tour to the People's Palace in Romania was important within the context of why Communism fell. Probably not a good choice for a first time river cruiser - would choose - the other side of the Danube - Nuremberg to Budapest, visiting Regensberg, Passau, Vienna, Budapest etc. Lots of options to choose from in Europe and also, Asia Read Less

I didn't think Uniworld could continue to exceed our expectations, but once again they did, this time on a Danube cruise from Romania to Hungary. The entire staff are beyond excellent: always cheerful and polite, acknowledging you by name within 2 days of the start of the cruise, even remembering your favorite beverage! From check-in to disembarkation, every aspect of the cruise was well executed. The shore excursions were very interesting, with excellent guides. The onboard entertainment was of superior quality: a folk dance group one evening, children's choir another, nightly entertainment by the ship's pianist. The ship itself was lovely. I especially was impressed by the gym, which had enough equipment to keep me happy and offered daily exercise classes as well as bikes to use when in port. After meeting 4 other couples that we really connected with, we asked the maître d' if he could set up a table for all 10 of us to sit together at dinner. He managed to arrange an ideal seating arrangement for us each night, something that went beyond the realm of our expectations. Each night we found a little gift in our room from the chamber staff, ranging from bath salts one night to a cache of favorite recipes from the chef. And we'll never forget Jasmine, the front desk concierge, whose energy could only be exceeded by her grace. What a gem! Uniworld is a class act, on every level, and we will continue to travel with them again and again. Read Less

Amazing staff who cannot do enough to help, they work very long hours but always have a smile for you. The boat is dated, the rooms and bathroom are really tiny, but well equipped, no bar fridge in the room, the food on board is excellent, the dining room is lovely, the bar is also nice but on the small side. The top deck has very basic relax chairs, but once again the deck service on board is outstanding. The smoking area at the rear of the boat is an issue, I think the entire boat should be 100% non smoking, as several guests including myself found the cigarette smoke offensive. The included shore excursion's tours are good, the older guests enjoy being taken around in a big bus but if you are young at heart you might find the bus trips a bit tiresome. We enjoyed the cycle rides, and hoped we might have had some more fun activities, but we understood that the age group is older and their mobility is not that great. Read Less

We couldn't fault the service, food and rooms. Tours were done well with experienced guides and usually less than 22 people per guide. The lack of internet for the trip from Bucharest to Amsterdam was unacceptable. While a "fix" was attempted in Vienna it was far from satisfactory and frequently failed. If Uniworld wants to be a top echelon company they need to put the money into their internet. This was not unique to our ship. the same complaint was being expressed by people on the river Empress and the SS Antoinette. The cruise director was not able to think "out of the box" to provide worthwhile solutions. He got us to what were supposed to see but arriving in a city after the shops and attractions are closed because we were driving around the city shows a lack of project management skills. One time would be a mistake but when it happened more than once it indicates a flaw in his abilities. Read Less

Have traveled Europe 13 times over the last 15 years. I will never use Uniworld again. Very poor quality assurance program relative to customer satisfaction. Better hope you have no problems on your cruise, as Uniworld will not accommodate you. They are more interested in the revenue bottom line for them than for customer satisfaction. Spent $24k on the riverboat cruise and requested they accommodate my request which would have cost them $100Euro on the trip due to them changing plans, and they refused to do so. Lots of other cruise lines to choose from. We have 3 trips planned and none will be with Uniworld. Read Less
