My parents booked this cruise as a gift to me for my 22nd birthday , (07/14) . From the second I got there , I was treated far better than any all inclusive resort in Cancun or Punta Cana . I had a studio room , the studio is small but full of everything u need . Shower , toilet , sink , very comfortable bed , closet , tv , and these party lights installed all throughout our he room which really changed the mood of the whole trip . The buffet food at the restaurant was okay , however the exclusive restaurant were out of this world . Le bistro, was superb , the Manhattan was great , moderno had amazing meats . The drinks were made to perfection . Nothing watered down, all drinks premium and perfect with the alcohol . The amount of friends I made on this cruise is unreal . Norwegian does everything they can to make it as easy as possible to have a good time . If you are early 20s or late teens , definitely book a cruise with Norwegian because they give you everything you need , full of activities , you just have to make the best and most fun of it . Which is fairy easy Read Less

The quality of the crew, their attentiveness and professionalism was far lacking. It was apparent they did not care to be on the ship. From boarding to disboarding the overall attitude toward passengers made me wish I was not there. The quality of the food was horrendous, soups had no whole ingredients and were clearly powdered. I myself was sick the entire trip! The setup on ship was a detriment to anyone not there with a whole family as they corralled guests into areas such as Skyline for evening parties (an area much too small for all guests) and then closed the only place to get a drink when passengers engaged in fighting due to the cramped conditions. The adult only pools/ hot tubs were nearly never enforced! I never got to enjoy the pool/ hot tub areas due to an excess of children present at all times splashing and screaming. When I put forth the money to get a spa experience in hopes of some kind of relaxation I was shorted the whole service (tip to toe) including a collagen eye treatment I never received even after asking about completing the service. It was nearly impossible to find a quiet space or other singles on the ship. I spent more money on this cruise than my last and am utterly shocked by my experience with Norwegian as a whole. No kind of vacation I would choose for myself again. Read Less

I've now set out to cruise on all NCL ships, having sailed too many times on one and the first one (NCL Wind) I sailed on was decommissioned many years ago. The Escape delivered! I purchased a guarantee cabin with one perk, which was the beverage package. This was my third guarantee cabin, and all of the locations have been great. The Escape is similar to two other ships I've been on: Breakaway and Getaway. They are all beautiful ships with many activities to suit many tastes. The only drawback I see with these ships is that they are a bit crowded overall and much too crowded in the pool area. I thoroughly enjoyed the shows Choir of Man and After Midnight, as well as the piano entertainer in The District Brewhouse. Howl at the Moon is getting pretty old and sloppy, although I admire the endurance and versatility of the performers. I've seen this show on many of the ships over the years. As a Platinum Latitudes member, this was the first time I was unable to use one of my coupons for a complimentary dinner at a specialty restaurant, as they were all booked up. Cagney's delivered an amazing meal and dining experience. Food in general at all of the venues was excellent. As a solo female traveler, I really appreciated the level of service I received at the bars, restaurants, theater, and guest services. I enjoyed a few of the solo gatherings and the coordinator did an excellent job! The New York/Italian/New Hampshire/Pennsylvania/Connecticut crowd was a blast to hang around with! Read Less

I traveled solo on a May cruise to Bermuda from NY and got a pretty good last minute deal on an oceanview cabin. Norwegian has a lot of programs for solo travelers especially if you get a studio room. Since I was not located in the studio section I did not get access to lounge or any of the solo activities, hence I didn't meet many people. Overall I was surprised by the amount of kids on the cruise especially since it was mid May. Most seemed decently behaved but others just ran wild everywhere. For this reason I did not find this cruise to be totally relaxing. The food for the most part, with the exception of one meal I had in the dining room was excellent. I tried Savor, Taste and Manhattan. All serve the same food. I liked the Manhattan room the best. I did not go for any of the specialty dining. I found the buffet to be endless and had some great selections including crepes. I really enjoyed the supper club and saw both shows. This was one of the highlights of my cruise. I didn't care for the pool activities. Belly flop contests, who has hairiest chest, twerking,. Just not my things. But The waterslides were pretty cool. I tried two of them. On one you used an inner tube to slide down a series of turns and twists. The other one was a 30 foot drop followed by a couple of corkscrews. Beware because water goes up your nose on this one and it is quite intense. I'm gonna try to Celebrity next time. It's more expensive but it seems to check more of the boxes I'm looking for. A fun and relaxing cruise. There is so much to do each day that I missed some activities...so much to do, so little time. I liked reading on deck with drink in hand. Never had an issue finding a place to lounge on deck or by the pool. I heard the ship was full but it really didn’t seem that way. I never felt crowded, other than after the safety drill. Never waited for a reservation for restaurants or shows. I ate at all the specialty restaurants. Actually liked lacucina and tappenayke the best! Cagney’s rib steak was fatty with lots of fiber running through it. It was also raw in the middle (I asked for med-rare). The mature D offered to bring me something else and apologized. But I declined and went for the dessert. Bayamo was good, had the lobster, but service was slow. Apps and dessert were excellent! The main dining rooms were also very good! Loved breakfast at taste and savor! I would get a window table have a leisurely breakfast and read my book. Oh! Margaritaville was awesome! Great fish tacos! Traditional key lime pie! Also it was inexpensive! It was getting windy and I must have looked cold. The restaurant manager came over with a soft blue blanket and wrapped it around me. I was so impressed by this!! Excursions: did blue lagoon in Nassau. It was very nice but 5 ships were in port! It was a madhouse getting to the boat!! Very disorganized!! I left the island early to avoid the rush back to the ship. GSC was just wonderful. Lots of room and plenty of lounge chairs. That was very organized! Port Canaveral I didn’t get off the ship. Nothing to do there that interests me and the stay too short to do Disney or universal. They should have 12 hrs at the port. Service was impeccable! A little issue with customer service removing a double charge, but the hotel director corrected it immediately. Everyone is so friendly. My housekeeper was magical! The room was always clean, made up and bed turned down at night, and I never saw her! But left her a nice tip. I had a balcony near the aft elevators...great location! Read Less

This was part of back to back cruises. There was an outbreak of Neuro Virus on the cruise before. At check in they continuously gave false info kept people waiting for hours overloading the terminal. They never said outright at terminal there was an outbreak. They did not give us option to cancel at pier and get money back. When on board we called NCL and my agent called NCL. They refused to offer us a thing. The ship was a complete mess Everything was cleared away. No menus on bars no spa no vacuum for a week. Service was just absolutely awful and NCL just has terrible customer relations and just don't care. Other cruise lines that had this kind of outbreak offered you option to not sail and refund your money or sail get partial money back and large discounts on next cruise On top of that right while we were sailing they removed tons of drinks from the menu and made their prices outrageous You now have to buy a premium drinks package above the regular one at $35 a day to cover it. That was not available yet. The only thing was after a wrote a stinging not to hotel director did customer service supervisor do something for me on second part of cruise. The Epic just had a crash and NCL refused to give any money back. Only 50% off on next cruise. This CEO is really something. No customer relations at all. They just don't care about anything or anybody. Read Less

For Barbados, St. Thomas and St. Lucia ports which I'd never been to before. The weather was great at all the ports except the cold in NYC where we started. It was cold until we got down to Florida and encountered rain the night before we got back to NYC. All ports were average ports, but Barbados, where most of us complained. We were the 3rd ship in port, but even so, the walkway for us to the terminal needs to be improved. It was totally impassable for any wheelchair. There were stairs at least 2 other times where the other ships were docked at which we had to go up/down. They ran a shuttle for people that were unable to walk, but the traffic on the road was busy with painting cranes and trucks. Did NCL beach excursions on all ports except St. Lucia, where I took a tour to the Pitons. All were enjoyable. I had a studio close to the lounge (love the cappuccino machine for morning coffee). It was similar to the lounge in the Epic, but had 11 "scenic" screens....no tv and no bartender after 5 p.m., but a wine vending machine. The gym would be very crowded during the day, so went at 9 p.m. to beat the crowds. Thought it should be bigger for 4200 cruisers. Our solo host was Silvia and she organized dinners, shows and dancing for the singles in the group. They'd invite all to meet in the Lounge at 5 p.m. daily, even if not in a studio (listed on the daily activity newsletter). This was my first time at NYC (Manhattan) port, but found it was very easy to get on/off the ship. Read Less

Hello my cruise travelers. I’m a platinum member on the NCL. I just came off the lovely NCL Escape November 25th, 2018, which is my 11th time cruising with NCL, and here’s my experience on the NCL Escape. I feel NCL is starting to cut corners. First night use to be Lobster tail night, I use to look forward to having dinner the firsts night to get my Lobster tails, but for some reason they stopped. Plus, there’s no more 6 dollars Black jack tables, the minimum is 10 dollars which I think it’s way too much for first time players and players who’s not that fortunate financially, I was also disappointed that we didn’t stopped at Great Stitrrup Caye for some reason, when the weather appeared to be perfected when we checked the forecas They need to turn the 5 o’clock bar into a jazz and blues club, because what ever it is now it was always empty. I still love NCL they just need to stop cutting corners. Also they should had added a bar in the solo lounge like the breakaway and better menu at the complimentary restaurants. They menu were awful!! Read Less

Excellent service. Food and drinks Amazing. Love the night entertainment. I highly recommend the Norwegian escape. Leaving out of NYC was very convenient. The boarding process was quick and easy even though the ship was delayed for 3 hours due to weather conditions. Stayed in the port of Bermuda for two and a half days .The glass bottom boat tour was fun and very informative. Also included a free drink which was very nice. There was always something to do on the ship during at sea days. Room service foods also very good . The casino was a very nice size and had a good variety of slots and table games. Also the slot attendants very helpful. I also liked the jade players club where you can earn rewards. Guess services also very helpful. Overall the Norwegian escape is a excellent trip and i can't wait sail with Norwegian cruise line again. Read Less

Cruise - Thanks to Angie (Gigi1068) for organizing the Meet & Mingle! She is so lovely and the M&M was such a fun time! I also really enjoyed the Slot Pull afterwards! Cruise Director, Mandy Jones, was EVERYTHING! I absolutely love her! Seriously, I can’t imagine the cruise without her. The staff on this ship is exemplary! Everyone is so friendly! Le Bistro, La Cucina, Teppanyaki and Manhattan Room were the highlights of my dining experiences. Although, I did enjoy the Garden Café & O’Sheehan’s many times as well. The UBP is fantastic! Bermuda is gorgeous! I took a shuttle to Horseshoe Bay, toured the National Museum of Bermuda, and swam with the dolphins at Dolphin Quest! I met so many wonderful people on the cruise everywhere I went. I can’t wait to cruise again! In fact, I’ll be back on the Escape in March. Disembarkation - I chose to self-assist. I joined in with the solo cruisers and met some very nice fun people to eat with, hang out and dance with, and attend shows with. The entertainment was awesome and I can't remember ever having as much fun as with this cruise. The personnel were remarkably friendly and eager to serve. My only regret was that it had to end. The ship was well maintained and the food was good. Lots of choices in the Main Dining Rooms as well as in the buffet area. The bars offered a variety of music and drinks and the personnel that led the game shows were amazing dancers and friendly while teaching the guests to dance. In spite of rainy weather and having to skip one port the extra day at sea was fun. I would not hesitate to sail on Norwegian again. In fact, I can hardly wait for my next adventure. Read Less

I won’t be going through them again for a cruise. The food on this cruise was okay. It could be better and also the entertainment was probably the only good part of the cruise. Taste - main dining area day 2: My scrambled eggs and cheese were cold and they forgot my toast. Oddly they brought a gravy boat of shredded cheese rather than cooking it in my scrambled eggs. Manager, Moises, sent some wine and sweet treats to our room to apologize. Very classy and we appreciated it. Spa Zero spa shoes Zero lockers Zero access to thermal spa during appt Coed relaxation rooms There was some sort of detox seminar/tours to sell a service which is fine except that they hold it in the the relaxation room which isnt very relaxing for those of us trying to relax. Services were nice but overpriced for lack of additional amenities (like Thermal Spa usage with appt) Lots of upselling after appt with prices excessive for products. Amazon is much better for products over ship pricing. Sky bar has most of the late night activities but it's in n the middle of the casino so the smoke made me leave immediately. Most of the staff seemed very confused when asking where something was on the ship. So much so that after asking 3 people for directions where the sky lounge was, we never located it and missed the singles meet and greet. Not enough chairs on the ship so you have to wake up at the crack of dawn to claim your chairs. Vibe only allows for 100 people and though it has nice chairs, it only has a hot tub and no pool. All in all I'd rank the trip 4/5. Btw, our steward was Harvey and he was amazing. Read Less

I chose this cruise due to proximity, timing, and great pricing. Now I'll review everything I experienced. Food/Drinks: Get the drink package.. it's 200 for unlimited and you're going to drink if you sort of like drinking. I don't drink often, but the atmosphere of the boat makes you want to enjoy yourself with their parties. The food was fine for the buffets, but why not take meals sitting down and enjoying being served for the same price? I liked the options there and even the lamb was good which is tough to do sometimes. The offered us a free B-day cake and Anniversary cake, but we didn't try it. Fitness: The pool is small, but the gym is a great size. They have packages where you can pay like under 100$ for unlimited yoga and other classes. I joined a $12 yoga class and it was very nice. The treadmills are weird to use on the water, but they all point out toward the sea so it's lovely at sunrise. Spa: Didn't use, but I heard it was great. Room: It was clean and spacious compared to what I thought it would be like. The shower was hot and had nice water pressure. They gave us free chocolate covered strawberries sometimes. Entertainment: The parties sucked. NO NEW MUSIC! DJs also never played a song straight through so everyone just stopped dancing and stood there often. Even the "glow" party which I really looked forward to was lame. They had a thriller dance class.. Deal or No Deal.. these were fun to watch and even participate in, but still.. would have liked something NEW and MODERN. The Brat Pack writing needed a lot of work. It was redundant and boring whereas I love those movies and should have loved this act. The After Midnight show was ok.. I think the Choir of Man is what you should really see if they have it when you go. Definitely check out the first day variety show to see what all the shows are about. Staff: Alvin, the cruise director talked way too much about alcoholics.. not funny bro. The other staff.. who said "washy washy" and sang songs about washing hands.. I dunno.. kind of cute lol. The staff was pleasant, especially Wendy, the server in the Manhattan dining room. She was just really great and even came to visit our table the next day when she wasn't waiting on us. Pools/Waterslides: Super fun for the courageous and the pool was small, but we all fit in it just fine. Lots of hot tubs, but they don't really have stuff going on enough in the other parts of the ship where you'd want to use the hot tubs, so mostly it's just used near the pool. Deck is HOT, wear sandals. Zip Line/Mini golf/Gaming: All ok, the arcade is so outdated it's blah and pointless. The zip line was fun, a little rusty, but fun! The Mini golf was cute as well. They had billiards, a small, pointless non-bowling bowling alley.. not for real bowlers, good for kids. Lots for kids to do on this boat in the water area too. Casinos were fun, but not a lot of winning going on at all. I watched tons of people lose tons of money. Dancing: Can I get some good music please? wtf man. Comedy: Great fun, adult shows after 11PM I bet are great... I didn't attend though. Public Restrooms: Always out of toilet paper! Oh my goodness that was a burden!! One time there was half a roll for 2 restrooms and we had to share.. 5 people in line behind.. wow. They really needed more in the dining area, and more convenient locations. Overall: I never watned for anything, I had enough time to see all the shows I wanted to see and play bingo (way overpriced and less than an hour game time for like 30+ dollars). Read Less

This was my seventh cruise with NCL since 2004 and my fifth as a solo cruiser. Having previously cruised on the Dream, Dawn, Gem, and Breakaway I was aware of NCL's freestyle cruising, culture, and had my own set of expectations. Getting to the port: For those of us who take public transportation arriving at the port is not difficult. Metro-North and LIRR deliver you to Grand Central or Penn Station from there you can either hoof it - which I did on the way home or you can catch a cab which I did on the way there. To keep your cab ride short and inexpensive have the driver drop you off at street level across the street and not have him or her drive up to Pier 88. If you choose to drive and to park at the pier expect to pay a premium for parking and allow extra time. Driving in NYC is not for the faint of heart. Embarkation: What a lovely experience compared to the Gem from NYC and the Breakaway from NYC. It was fast and organized, I was on the ship within 60 minutes of arriving at the port. The longshoremen will take your luggage, make sure you have printed out your luggage tags and affixed them before you hand over your bags. It's also customary to give them a cash tip. For me, it was $3 for one bag. Ship: to say that the Escape is a huge ship is not giving it credit. It is an immense ship. Over seven days I walked 39.6 miles - the vast majority of which were aboard the Escape. If you are not a cabin dweller the vast majority of your time will be spent on decks 6-8 which house the restaurants, shopping, theaters, casino, Skyline club, District Brewhouse, and bars. Decks 9-15 are all cabins with the exception of 11 which has the studio lounge and 13 which has the medical center. Decks 16-20 are the spa, fitness center, sun decks, pools, bars, buffet, the Haven, Margaritaville, slides, ropes course, Vibe beach club, arcade, and H2O. My suggestion to you is a month before you go spend an hour a day on the treadmill and stairclimber, your thighs will thank me. There are 16 passenger elevators on the Escape. The forward elevators are in two banks of four. If you want to go up you should press both sets of up buttons. The aft elevators are one bank of eight. You only need to press one up button. 16 elevators sound like a lot. When you consider there are 4266 passengers aboard the ship when full there is one elevator for 266 people. Bear in mind there are those who are disabled, on scooters, those who need to stop at every floor, people who take the elevators down, floods of people on day 1 embarking with their luggage, floods of people on day 7 disembarking with their luggage, crowds when the shows get out, crowds when the ship ports and departs. A recommendation would be to limit your elevator time and take the stairs, it will save you stress and will help you work off the calories. Cabin: your cabin is appointed with at least 3 - (in the studio's case 4) outlets. However, they will only work if your key card is in the slot that turns the lights on. It is best to charge your devices at night while you are in the room with them. NCL states that the cabin stewards will unplug devices when you are not in the room. I'm not sure what the point of that is, because if you are not in the room the devices will not charge. If you have never cruised before the cabins are very small. The beds are quite comfortable. Smoking: Not that any of us should be smoking. I imagine the Escape being difficult for smokers in the winter. While in port in NYC the only open smoking area was the interior cigar room. It was horrible. When out of port the smoking areas are only outside, uncovered, at Spice H20 on deck 17 aft and Waves at deck 17 midship. If the weather is nice, this is not a problem. On the Breakaway, there was a smoking section on deck 8 on the waterfront and on the Gem deck 7 which were both covered. You can only smoke in the casino when the casino is open and you are playing. Studio lounge: unlike the Breakway the Escape has three floors of studio cabins midship on decks 10-12. Thank you NCL! The Studio lounge is beautiful with digital screens, comfortable seating, modern design, the worlds best complimentary espresso cappuccino machine, water, juice, a pay per glass wine bar and amazing staff. Our solo coordinator Claudius organized dinners and meetups and made the solo cruising experience an unforgettable one. Spa: The spa has become one of my main reasons for sailing with NCL. If you like to relax in a hot tub or on a lounger and want to do so in peace, I highly recommend buying the thermal spa weekly pass. Before you cruise call your travel agent or NCL and have them add it. Imagine sharing loungers, pools and hot tubs with 4000 people then imagine sharing them with 100 people. The cost is at least 20% cheaper if you book before you go. The week pass was approximately $200 if booked before the cruise and $248 on the first day of the cruise. Let me tell you about my favorite place on this ship - eucalyptus steam room, sauna, sanarium, dry salt bath, snow room, hot tub, thermal pool, rain showers, mosaic tile loungers, bathrobes, infused water, fresh fruit... this is what relaxation is meant to be. I will never cruise without access to the spa. Granted you do have to avoid the spa salespeople who are trying to give you acupuncture, teeth whitening, hot towel shaves, massages, scrubs, manicures and pedicures... if you have mastered the NY leave me alone face you will be fine. Don't make eye contact, smile or ask questions, they will latch onto you like harpies. Internet: I purchased the no limit package without video streaming. It was approximately $200 for the seven days. For me this was worth it as my work and finances never sleep. Whatsapp allowed for perfect VOIP video calling and all my finance apps worked without a hitch just like I was at home. Cruise Next - yes, I did it. Within the next four years I expect to be cruising a few times with NCL. I purchased two $250 Cruise Next deposits for a total of $250.00. I almost did not purchase the certificates on this cruise because I was given incorrect information. NCL wooed me with the inexpensive deposits so I had booked two future cruises prior to setting foot on the Escape. My question was - could I use these cruise next deposits towards my already booked cruises? The lady at the desk said no. She stated I could cancel my booked cruises and rebook them. I asked her if I would lose my deposits, she stated that since I was within 180 days of my next cruise - and that was when final payment was due - that I would lose my deposit. I was not satisfied with those answers. So... while I was on the Escape I called NCL. I was told that yes I can use the cruise next credits towards the cruises I had already booked, that I could cancel the other cruises if I wanted to as I had booked them a long time ago and that my final payment was not due until 90 days before the embarkation date. I later learned that the new NCL rule is that you will lose your deposit if you cancel the cruise within 120 days of the embarkation date. This information was confirmed when I returned home and see in my NCL account that the cruise next deposits are there and they can be applied as partial payment to the cruises I have already booked. Short story - if you're getting an answer you don't like or sounds incorrect, check with someone else. Restaurants: Savor, Taste, and Manhattan room - the menu is the same, the service is excellent. Savor and Taste are open for breakfast and lunch most days, check the Freestyle Daily. Take the opportunity to try the bizarre things on the menu. For example, the spinach pancakes with smoked salmon were amazing. They have cappuccino, espresso, and real coffee. If you are a solo or a couple, want to be seated quickly, offer to share a table, they will happily place you with other cruisers. You may meet your next Facebook friend, I did! Garden Buffet - meh. I'm not a fan but there is always something you will find that is edible and it is almost always open. The coffee is horrible if you are from the tri-state area. Continental style begins at 6 am and hot food at 6:30 am. You may run into a few folks who have yet to find their cabins after a night of partying. O-Sheehan's - limited menu, but everything on it they do it well. Fantastic place for wings and beer, Irish coffee, sandwiches, salads, fries, and burgers. This is the 3-6am spot for those who can't sleep after a late night at Skyline. One of the complaints I heard from another solo cruiser was that the late-late night food and entertainment on NCL was not as good as Carnival. NCL doesn't cater to those who don't sleep. Margaritaville - If you like it or hate it on land your experience will be the same on board. The place is only open from 12pm to 5pm. The nachos are huge, enough for six people. The margaritas are awesome. The surcharge is $14.95. I had conch fritters and fish tacos, both were decent. Bayamo - Expensive but worth it. $39.99 for the seafood feast which includes king crab legs - which are amazing, lobster tail, clams, muscles. MMMMM District Brew House - not bad beer and hard cider, sports on TV. We didn't eat here. Food Republic - This was the sleeper surprise of the trip - excellent food, service, bizarre pairings like pastrami dumplings! Their drinks were fabulous. Clubs: Spice H2O is the outdoor venue which is lovely, it has movies and parties. Skyline which is next to the casino holds the after-hours parties with live music and DJs. Unlike the Breakway this is not an enclosed club, it is open to the casino which makes it seem less club like. Active: Yoga class was fabulous. Ropes course with "walk the plank" and the zip line is excellent, however, the cameras were not working and the upper deck was not open due to high winds. Slides were excellent. You cannot have anything in your pockets or on your person (except for your room key) when you are going on the slides or on the ropes course. Drinks: The black glass wine tasting event with the Sommelier from Columbia was amazing. He is by far the most candid, demonstrative, informative Somm I have ever met. While on this topic let's discuss the drink package - it is 'included' as a perk with your cruise, however, you have to pay the gratuities and taxes if you chose this perk. If you are not a drinker do not pick this perk. You will get far more value out of the restaurant package. Sugarcane Mojito Bar: amazing - make sure you stop here. Fantastic drinks and service. Tobacco Road bar: there was a bartender with the last name Venezula - it was like watching an artist make a drink. Bermuda: This was my fourth trip to Bermuda - I'd be willing to go every year for the remainder of my life if I could. It is difficult to believe that so much beauty exists in the world in one place. Do not be afraid of the public transportation, buses and ferries. Everyone speaks English, they are all friendly, the people of Bermuda want you there spending your money and having a great time. You do not need to book the ship's shore excursions, a two-minute internet search will guide you. Places to not be missed in Bermuda include Horseshoe Bay beach, St.George's Tobacco Bay, Crystal Caves, and 'discover scuba' at snorkel bay if you are not a certified diver. If you are a certified diver make sure to do a wreck dive. Hamilton is lovely for a walk and shopping. NCL offers a free ferry from Kings Wharf to St. George's... you get what you pay for. The public ferry takes approximately 30 minutes. The NCL ferry puts along and takes at least an hour - or more. Disembarkation: If you can walk off with your luggage this is your best bet. The day before disembarkation you will pick up your luggage tags from deck 6 service desk. If they do not have the color for the earliest group wait in line to get it. The earlier you get through the faster you will get through customs. The Escape requires that you wait on Deck 8 or 6 before you are called to go to deck 7 to exit. From there you will weave your way throughout deck seven in a creative maze of chairs through restaurants and public areas. Overall - the vacation was amazing. I'm not trilled with the mega ship experience but I will be on the Escape again in September and January. I'm looking forward to the Bliss in NYC. If I had to take a first time cruiser on a ship it would not be this one. I would take them on a smaller ship such as the Gem, Dawn or Jewel as the mega ships are overwhelming. Read Less

We sailed on the escape april 14-20, 2018, 6 night out of miami with stops in nassau, grand cayman, and ocho rios. Here's my review: Embarkation / disembarkation: a. Both were flawless and the fastest we have experienced. We arrived to the terminal around 11:30 and didn't have to wait in line or sit in a waiting area at all (the ship was not filled to capacity). We were at the buffet within 20 minutes of arriving at the terminal. The disembarkation was just as fast--we did the self-assist early disembarkation which was called about 15 minutes early and was outside the terminal 15 minutes later. Ship: a. the breakaway class ships (getaway and breakaway) and the breakaway plus class (escape & bliss) are some of the best laid out and easy to navigate ships sailing in my opinion. all of the dining and entertainment are on decks 6-8 and each floor goes all the way through with only a forward and aft staircase / elevators, so it's very easy to navigate. Everything else, like the garden buffet is on deck 16. Couple notes about the ship: Cabins: a. We had one cabin on deck 13 fwd, inside. It was nice and quiet and no motion. I would recommend a deck closer to decks 6-8 because you'll spend most of your time on those decks. We had another cabin on deck 12 aft balcony cabin. Fantastic cabin. the bathrooms and showers are large and some of the best at sea. The balcony cabins have usb ports in the lights next to the bed. (the inside cabins did not have them). Both have 3 outlets which is rare so you may not need to bring your power strip. tv: d lousy. The channel selection is terrible (ncl only has cnbc, msnbc, and fox news for networks along with a movie channel, a favorites channel, a "sports 24 channel, and some other proprietary channels. the remote and tv itself are also lousy. Ncl spends literally a billion building a ship and then puts a $75 tv sole brand tv in each cabin. I have had problems with the remote controlling the tv on nearly every cruise. The onscreen ability to make reservations and check your account is the one bright spot. Entertainment: b. some of the best at sea but you can't always get in to what you want. Make your reservations early--especially for the comedy shows. after midnight: a. A fantastic high energy show based on the cotton club in the 1930s harlem. brat pack: b. a musical based on the breakfast club brat pack. If you like 80s music, this is your show. The performers do a great job and give it their all. it is long--a full 90 minutes! sean joyce comedy hypnosis: a. a hilarious entertaining show where 20 or so members of the audience is hypnotized. jackie fabulous: a comedian in the headliners. We went to the family show and she was really funny in a clean comedy act. keith bender: a the other comedian in the headliners. Also a very funny comedian. DINING: mdr: b. overall the food in the main dining room (mdr) was very good each night (we ate there 4 of the 6 nights). i asked the waiter each night for his/her recommendation and it was usually spot on. modurno: a brazilian steakhouse. The salad bar is reason enough to go but the meats, in particular the fillets and strip sirloin, were excellent. le bistro: a. French. This was the highlight of our dining experience on the trip. The food quality and service were fantastic! garden buffet: b. generally a good selection and food was fresh and hot and it opened on time every morning and afternoon which isn't always the case on some cruises we have been on. Fitness: a. The gym on the escape is one of the best at sea. all the equipment is modern and well maintained. There are a lot of treadmills and rarely were full. Shore excursions: we did not do any so i can't comment. In the past we have gone to the blue hole in ocho rios which i highly recommend! Read Less

What attracted me to NCL was the fact that the cruise line did not charge a supplement fee for traveling solo. The accommodations for solo travelers was perfect in what they offered as far as the cabin and the solo lounge. NCL offered a solo facilitator to make your cruise enjoyable. From embark/disembark customer services, hospitality, entertainment, food, housekeeping, crew/staff, activities, beverage package, the price in general for the cruise, excursion, organization, ambiance, ports, itinerary, smooth sailing, port, the ship ESCAPE all in all EXCELLENT!!!! I would highly recommend NCL cruise line if traveling Solo. The cruise line has so much to offered. What I mean about that is coming out of your comfort zone. This solo cruise I was craving for so long and I have finally done it and that I will be doing it again in 2020. Couldn’t do one this year due to the fact that I moved. But from 2020 and there on, I will be cruising with NCL. Read Less

The Escape is a great ship. The crew is top notch and could not be better. My first time in the studio and it was an excellent experience. Soooo quiet! Fun lighting! And, all the food and drink you could want at any hour... that lounge is a convenient place. Everything is so well thought out that there was more than enough room for all your belongings. The dining was very good as well. I love the convenience of the free style cruising. I took out the spa package just in case I missed having a window in my stateroom. That was a good decision as I used all of the amenities, spa pool, saunas, salt room and steam room. I was not brave enough to use the "ice" room. I'll leave that for you to report on..... On the downside I personally felt that the entertainment could have been better with the exception of the Headliners Comedy Club. Read Less

We chose the Escape because of the itinerary, the price, the reviews of the ship and the food. We had the ultimate beverage package which was fantastic! All drinks under $15 were free, anything over you just had to pay the difference for. For those with the package, keep in mind that any drinks ordered while still in the Miami port will incur taxes on it that are not covered. The staff was super friendly and went the extra mile to make sure you enjoyed your stay. You can tell that Norwegian treats them all like family. Food was good and the ship is very nice and modern. Like others have mentioned previously, there should be more pools/hot tubs for the number of people on board. The water slides were awesome! The onboard entertianment could also be improved but there were a few good shows and activities. Overall we had a fantastic week and would definitely sail with Norwegian again! Read Less

I traveled solo for this trip and I stayed in Miami 3 days before this cruise. I had more fun in Miami those 3 days than I did the entire week of the cruise. Now my review is about my experience on this ship. This has nothing to do with NCL as a whole or their brand. I think they have completely reinvented cruising and what it means to be a cruiser. I have even booked my next cruise before I even stepped foot on this ship. Embarkation day 2/24/18 was probably the fastest and smoothest I have ever experienced. it was probably a half hour from the time I was dropped off until I was on the ship. The Ship is huge. It is beautiful inside and out. We were immediately directed to go to the buffet. I had just eaten so I opted to go to the top deck (Spice H2O) and wait for my room the be ready. The weather was beautiful and the view was incredible. It went down hill from there. First off there is over 4000 people on this ship, I believe there needs to be more elevators. The lines and the wait for the elevators was insane. This was an issue for me all day everyday. Also while I think it is amazing that so many people traveled from Europe to go on this trip, manners must not be taught in those countries. I have never been ran into and nearly knocked over by so many people trying to get on the elevator while I am trying to get off, the biggest culprits were the plentiful very unruly children. They need to learn to let people get off before you get on. So after the very long wait at the elevator and once I was able to get to my room I was happy. My room steward was amazing the whole trip. I tipped him a couple extra times for his great service. once I unpacked I went back to Spice H2O and had a couple of more drinks, until the muster drill. That was the easiest muster I have ever been too. even taking my time to get to my station I was still the first to arrive so yet again I waited and waited and waited for the other people to arrive. Apparently they can't be bothered to show up in a reasonable amount of time. After muster I went back to the Spice H2O deck and enjoyed the rest of the night. It was beautiful. Day 2 (sea day) i was hung over and I spent 90% of the day in my cabin watching movies and TV shows and I had enough of the crowds from the day before I wasn't dealing with it at any level on day 2. I ordered room service. Day 3 Jamaica. I was not thrilled with this stop, I had never wanted to go to Jamaica and I can now say I have been I never have to go back. I spent about an hour in the port. I did a little shopping and ended up at Margaritaville. The service was horrible at the bar. I sat their for 10 minutes while the bartender played on his phone and wiped down the bar even before he served me the 1 drink. I immediatley returned to the ship. I took this opportunity to explore the ship a little and go up to Spice H2O. This is where I witnessed the meltdown by the bartender on duty. I have never seen this kind of behavior from a staff memebr of any cruise, in my life. He made sure that we all knew he was not happy. I refused to let him wait on me anymore after that. Day 4 Grand Cayman, I had been here before I didnt want to go again so I stayed on the ship. By this time I had been to the buffet several times and I have to say the food is horrible. This was the first time I tried O'Sheehans. The food was not all that great either and the service was terrible and man they could be rude as hell. I was scolded on 2 different occasions in the place. This was the place I was looking most forward to enjoying as well. My only advice is CHECK IN WITH THE HOSTESS .... I learned that real quick and very rudely, the second being, guys wear shirts with sleeves in this irish pub after 5pm or you will get told off again. I knew the 2nd was a thing in all the upscale pay restaraunts but not in the free ones. Day 5 Great stirrup Cay. I did not get off the ship this day either as the tender was unreasonable long and I didnt want to wait. I stayed on the ship and enjoyed some of limited open area's on this ship. It needs more and bigger adults only pools. I did get to use the hot tub for a while by myself this day and it was fantastic. By this time I was sick of this ship and was counting down the seconds till i could get home. Day 6 sea day. I didnt leave my room. I knew the ship was going to be packed and over crowded everywhere I went on the ship I opted to stay in my cabin. I was going stir crazy by this day. My neighbors on either side of me were horrible. On one side they slammed their door whenever they entered and left the room. This went on 24/7. The neighbors on the other side were constantly banging on something. I swear they never left their room because I listened to that for 7 days, they also liked to get drunk and scream from their balcony at all hours of the night. This made it hard to enjoy my balcony by leaving the door open at night to get in that amazing sea air. Day 7 Nassau. Well This was the stop I wanted to see the most and probably spent the least time in. There were 3 or 4 ships also in port that day so when I got off the ship the port and streets were so crowded. Not fun to see the sights when you are being touched by more strangers at once than in your entire life, I did very little shopping here. I was proabbly in port 45 minutes. I hate crowds. I hate being touched by strangers. I went back to the ship and started packing because I knew I would be free in 24 hours. Overall, of all the cruises I have been on this was my least favorite ,Maybe it was because I went solo, maybe because It was not the original cruise I had booked. I hated this cruise. I hated this ship. The first few days I found the staff beyond rude and not friendly at all, they did warm up after a couple of days. I would still say it is way to big and way to over crowded. I will never sail a mega ship again. Read Less

I have to write this review before I forget ALL of the things I didn't like about my first and LAST 7 day Western Caribbean Norwegian cruise on the Escape. The value for the money is just NOT there at all! First of all the announcements at 7AM. Come on I'm on VACATION!! And the worst part is these annoying announcements were about their very convoluted and confusing tendering process. They make it sound like you HAVE to sign up for a tender to your excursion and then after they announce all SEVENTEEN tenders there's open tendering! My first two off ship experiences were awesome. I went zip lining and floated down the river in the jungle in Jamaica. That was simply amazing! For my second excursion I went snorkeling with Stingrays on Grand Cayman. Also delightful. For my third excursion my second gripe comes into play. I signed up to go on a wave runner excursion on Norwegian's private island and my group was the last to go at 1pm. When I went to check in I was informed that my session was cancelled because the water was too low. I mentioned to the employee that I was disappointed and he said, "Well we can't control the water ma'am I'm sorry." The last thing I wanted to hear after my excursion was cancelled was a smart remark from some minimum wage worker. There wasn't much else to do on their Island except drink, eat and lay on the beach so I went back to the boat after that! Third gripe: Norwegian has a tendency to herd you around like cattle. I hate that and I want to be able to do as I please and not be rushed, especially after the amount of money I paid. Speaking of cattle they have one tiny little wading pool for a SOLD OUT cruise of 3000 PEOPLE! Absolutely ridiculous. I think they should shut down one of the 20 bars they have and build a bigger pool and more than one pool! Also if you don't drink or hang out at bars you may want to rethink coming because other than the games and trivia sessions there's not much to do for non drinking adults. I got the ultimate beverage package because the travel agent I booked through said I could get unlimited coffee drinks. FALSE. The Starbucks coffee is NOT free, the only free coffee is the crappy kind at the buffet. Oh and if you drink a lot of water you have to BUY bottles of water and have them delivered to the room or you'll end up drinking a massive amount of 8 ounce glasses from the bar or buffet. Also, the main dining room and buffet that you could eat at for free were average at best. VERY slow service in my assigned dining room The Manhattan. The specialty restaurants were extra and you had to make reservations. Fourth gripe: If you like to unwind and watch a little t.v. I don't know what to tell you because I think this cruise line uses rabbit ears for their TV channels. You get one news channel one sports channel and a TV station that plays reruns of sitcoms and nothing else. The other four stations are for Norwegian's marketing ploys for their low end shopping and art. Fifth gripe: The EXTRA $14/day resort fee that they mention on your final bill. meant to be split among the staff! What is the PREPAID GRATUITY ADDED TO EVERYTHING FOR???? My last and BIGGEST gripe is the MUSIC!! It was absolutely ABHORRENT!!! Everything the DJ's and bands played was geared toward a demographic that did NOT include me and I'm 42! There is enough music in this world that there should be a band and DJ for every age group and demographic. So if you like hearing Sweet Caroline, the Piano Man, Footloose and Greased Lightening over and over and OVER again book your cruise NOW. Ok, I'll end with the positives: relatively friends staff and they did keep the ship clean and well maintained. Overall, I would have been satisfied if I had of paid 1/3 less than I did for this cruise that nickel and dimed me to death. Oh well, you live and you learn! Read Less

Ship was over crowded and would have liked earlier dancing. Could never get in a hot tub or the pool. Good to get a meal package as the food starts to look the same. Boarding and disembarkation was smooth. Staff were all so wonderful. The buffet was always crowded. Osheehans had the most helpful people. Karaoke didnt have a very big selection of songs. Real slow service at savor ine night - waited over half an hour for desert and tea eventually left Good shopping bargains. Our cabin guy was adorable and super helpful. We went on the NCL Escape in December. This is fourth cruise so far in the last 5 years and so far we have been on Holland America, Carnival, Royal Carribean and this NCL one. NCL Escape was the best ship we have been on so far. Initially i was a little hesitant that it might be very expensive, but for the price we paid, it was totally worth it. The food was great, they had lot of varieties every day, the activities on the ship for families were great, we took part in a few of them and they were a lot of fun. The Splash Academy for kids was the favorite place for the kids, it was really huge compared to the kids daycares on all the other ships and had ton of activities for the kids. Our kids just did not want to leave that. They had grouped the kids by age group and had them perform on the last day. The water slides were a lot of fun and the kids pool was good. The ship in general was very well kept and maintained. Our room Steward was awesome, everytime we left the room and were back the room was all tidied up and neat. Special Kudos and mention to the Cruise Director Tyler and his assistant director Dave. They both had so much energy and were so much fun, everytime they were in the galley/Atrium/the dance floor it was just lot of fun. The Spice H2O was awesome, open-air dance club, it was really so much fun. All in all, this was our best Cruise so far for our entire family, and we will be going back on this ship again. The "After midnight" and "Brat Pack" were really great shows. Read Less
