We wanted something smaller and more upscale than Royal Caribbean, and with few or no children. Okay, here's the good, the bad and the ugly about Seabourn. Good: Boarding is a BREEZE. We walked straight on after checking in. Debarkation likewise, a breeze. Staterooms: amazing. Best beds I've ever slept on on a cruise. Bathroom roomy. Pillows! Food is mostly good. The Keller Grill is over rated and limited. Caviar is available anywhere on the ship except there. You could stand just outside the door and have it though. Teatime was a blast. Loose tea in little silver pots. Scones. Num. Coffee bar on deck 7 makes killer Irish Coffee. Good selection of in room TV channels. No children were aboard! Just OK: The bars. They close them up as early as 11, and they don't open again until 5. The Patio bar is open all afternoon, but that's rough in 32 degree weather. Sure, you can drink in your room, but I can do that at home. Deck 7, again, makes boozy coffee. Age group: The median age was 75. If you're not ready to sail with folks who were teens in the 50's, this cruise is going to be a bore. Dress codes for dinner: Toward the end of the cruise the "no jeans" rule sort of vanished. I think nice jeans should always be acceptable. Bad: One of the bartenders was overbearing and rude. He closed the bar on a Friday night at 11pm while the show band was still playing, then argued about it when I asked him the next day and denied doing it. Told me that 6 people in the bar wasn't enough to keep it open; I reminded him that each of us paid more than the regular client just to be there. He said that didn't matter. 10 couples walked into the bar while we were arguing, saw the lights on, and walked out. Stability. We had 60 mph gale force winds for 3 days and nights, even the waiters couldn't stand up straight. I was violently seasick 3 days. For queasy travelers, this ship is not a good option. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Several of us who debarked in Montreal ended up at the same hotel, close to port, and historic. Hotel St. Sulpice, right next to Notre Dame Basilica. Roomy suites, good rate. I recommend it. Read Less

Our travel agent raved about Windstar, told our group how excellent they were. She is now our ex travel agent. This experience was'nt even close to what she told us. Most everything was poor, I don't know where to start, but here is my review. Starting with the positive, the ship was clean, the room was of good size. That's the positive. NOW, for the negative, being genereous the food was hit and miss, mostly a miss. The service in the dining room was slow. The coffee bar had stale cupcakes, they were stored in the frig and displayed the next day, and the next day, etc. We were suppose to have fresh fruit in our suite, had it for a few days, then it stopped. I asked reception why I had no fruit as advertised, they told me that I had to request it, which I did. After a few days they ran out of bananas and plums. They also ran out of the kleenex that fits under the bathroom sink. Also the coffee bar ran out of oatmeal cookies. It looks like Windstar has cut alot of corners all over the ship and it shows. The staff looks overworked. The excursions were overpriced and hit and miss. One was so bad, Windstar gave us a full refund, when many guests complained. There were many unhappy people on this cruise. As far as entertainment goes I did not expect much, but got much less. Non existant, with two terrible hookey acts. No lecturers as promised, we basically got nothing. We had a Captian's party, one drink, one appitizer. This cruise was comparable to a Carnival cruise, if not worse. One guest who was on his third cruise with Windstar, was so disgusted, he said, he would never cruise with Windstar again, nor would I. There were many more negative things, but I don't even want to discuss then. All I can say is don't pay luxury fares for a low end cruise. , Read Less

Seabourn used to be really good. No longer. Food quality is not much better than the lower priced lines. Service not as good as before. Ship a bit run down. Entertainment just ok. We expected really superior service and dining from Seabourn. That is no longer the case. We were really looking forward to this cruise, having had a really nice cruise with this cruise line some years ago. They have not kept up with the times, which could be okay, but they need to spend quite a bit on refurbishment. Also, this line is managed, believe it or not, by Holland America, which is certainly a line to avoid. We tried them many years ago, and have absolutely nothing good to say. We had a problem on this cruise, which was never resolved . It was "kicked upstairs" to Holland, & they could not care less about resolving our issue. Read Less

This was our first Seabourn cruise...and our last. Past sailings have been on Oceania and I regret this trip was not with them, as well. I will repeat another review in saying the food was a huge disappointment for all the upscale hype associated with Seabourn. The selection of items lacked variety and portions were incredibly small. Size of portion is more appropriate for a ten year old. It was also challenging to find healthy selections. You could not even find a banana or apple without asking, and even then a banana took 4 days to rippen if you kept it in your cabin. One night I ordered the vegetarian crepe (filled with ricotta cheese and spinach). When the dish arrived, the plate contained merely a three inch crepe with nothing else. I was shocked to see such an embarrassing small portion especially for dinner, and when I questioned the waiter, he merely indicated I could order another portion. On another occasion, dinner came with frozen (not fresh) green beans that were terrible; almond pancakes for breakfast arrived without the almonds on top, which were brought by the table when the meal was half consumed; chicken breast was good one night and very dried out the next night. It didn't matter which of the two restaurants you ate at - service, selection and portion size were all disappointing. Even dinner at the Keller Grill was nothing to rave home about. On the positive side, the cabin was lovely and shore excursion size was kept to no more than 25. However, I do not feel Seaboun is worth the money invested and will return to Oceania in a heartbeat. We chose this cruise as a total getaway from caregiving and because we really needed a break. We wanted a small ship with no casino, no children, no loud cruise director, and a small number of passengers. We flew to Boston from Tampa and boarded with 35 other passengers - the ship holds about 200 total. As this was a repositioning cruise, the cost was very affordable and we were prepared for 8 days of total relaxation. The crew did a great job of refurbishing one area after another - new carpets, drapes, etc. while keeping enough public space open that we hardly noticed. The catering was less elaborate than ususl, we were told, but the array and quality of the food was superb. We like the occasional gourmet dinner but we also like an option for simple grilled salmon or more country food, which was always an option. This was our first Ponant cruise - we had already booked one next Spring from Martinique to Lisbon (another ocean cruise) - and took the opportunity for a short cruise in advance. We are so glad we did. We met every single other passenger - even the French, who comprised about half of the passengers. As I speak a bit of French, I had no trouble, but neither did those who spoke only English. The passengers were fun and friendly. Only ten of us disembarked in Panama and the rest were joined by others as they went on to Lima over the following week or so. The crew was excellent - only the reception staff were a bit uninterested in being responsive. The Butler, West, attended to all our needs. We had a suite - essentially two staterooms together. Beware, European sizes are small for us Americans, but there was plenty of room. For the most part, we hardly stayed in the stateroom. The public rooms are gorgeous, well cared-for and comfortable. We are going again and we actually booked a Tahiti - Honolulu - Japan trip in 2019. This is a wonderful line and perfect for adults and friends. The entertainment was just fine and much more than we expected given a repositioning cruise. Read Less

We like to sail on the smaller ships and had been sailing with Seabourn for 15 years (max. 208 passengers) when they had the 3 small ships. Sailed a couple of times on the larger, newer ships (max. 450 passengers) and did not like it. My husband found Ponant on line and thought the line looked very interesting. Having got the brochure and saw the type of cruises we like (particularly the repositioning as we like days at sea) we booked the Boston, Mass. to Lima, Peru. Loved every minute and we will certainly book another one as soon as possible (and we have saved some money up!) The staff could not do enough for you and nothing was too much. The food was superb, particularly the wonderful French cheeses and the bread is to die for! (Take clothes that will expand with your waistline!!!!) I would have liked a bit more to do in the daytime, i.e. art and craft classes etc. The only problem was that the majority of the passengers were only French speakers. However, the staff did translate where appropriate (quizzes etc) Our cruise agent informed me that there are going to be some 'all English speaking' cruises in the future and we would be VERY interested in hearing about those. We are regular Seabourn cruisers going every couple of years . We are shocked by the dumbing down since the new owners have taken over. Food is so boring and repetitive . No interesting food, no innovation . Just Meat or fish on a plate . Limited food options, Collonade has choice of two items only per night, and half the time you have to book for this mediocre experience , restaurant 2 which was good , has been replaced by Thomas Keller- not an improvement/ just more boring same old same old food in every restaurant on the ship. It's an insult Everyone complained of the food at the Grill restaurant The main restaurant has appetisers that second as the salads for the night and the vegetarian options. Never more than 1 actual appetitiser that's not a salad / vegetarian option. No big kitchen market day smorgasbord, as in previous cruises . Met lots of people also complaining about the food If you are a foodie, DONT COME! You will be so disappointed Food is better on Azarmara, Oceania, Crystal Clearly the tasteless bean counters have destroyed any competitive edge Seabourn has in tne market place We have been loyal customers for many years but this is the last Seabourn cruise we will do.( currently trying to cancel the 35 day cruise we have booked for next year - couldn't survive 35 days of this food!) I'm a travel writer and although I've been on several cruises, [I'm not an avid cruiser]; I will say that this cruise was nice. Almost all of the crew were great, the ship clean and well maintained. There were certainly parts of this cruise that we enjoyed very much; but for the cost of the cruise you should enjoy it, and be treated very well. This review is not about the ports, which were fabulous, but about the writer's experience, and quality of the experience on board the Seabourn Quest. Part of my experience in any travel, is whether it is a good value for the price. The reason for booking the Seabourn Quest was that were celebrating a milestone wedding anniversary, and wanted a luxury cruise through New England and Canada. The information we received was that wine/champagne, fruit, and appetizers would be waiting in our (everyone's) suite before embarkation, and my husband had also requested flowers and a note (for me) to be in our suite upon arrival. He was told that it was their pleasure to accommodate our special occasion, etc. [We also purchased spa services in advance]. No flowers, fruit or appetizers in our suite upon arrival. The dinner that night at the Thomas Keller restaurant [The Grill, as I recall] was good, and we upgraded for an up-charge to a good bottle of wine. The steak was wonderful, but the only part of the meal that stood out to me. My husband did bring up the fact that we had no amenities in our cabin/suite when we arrived; however, when we returned to our cabin the flowers were there. It's the details that make or break a cruise line, hotel, or resort who claim to provide luxury - and charge an enormous price to the customer. The service in The Restaurant was good, on our subsequent visits. However, on our first visit to The Restaurant, after waiting 40+ minutes after we finished our appetizer, my husband and I were served tepid [room temperature, at best] grouper. We asked if we could get warm fish, the manager, or someone presented as a manager made a big deal that we were requesting "VERY HOT" fish. (not even close to an apology) He rather announced it to the server to tell the chef that we like our fish "very hot," as if eating grouper warmer than room temperature is a special request. That should never happen - especially on a 6 star ship. We did meet some nice people, but by and large the fellow cruisers seemed a bit snooty. You certainly might expect that on a luxury cruise, but I'm never comfortable with it. And in my opinion, there's never a good excuse for it. Frankly, many people don't even notice it. For the cost of around $800 + per day per person = $1,600+ per day/couple we did have high expectations. For the most part the service was very good, as was the food. However, they do cut corners with the food, i.e. one night our Dungeness crab cakes had fish and scallops mixed in. A detail that you might expect on a much less prestigious ship. Also a bottle of decent wine was an additional surcharge. Much of the wine they served could be purchased retail at Target for $10 - $15 a bottle. We did expect better wine. The pros about this ship/voyage is the smaller size of the ship with fewer passengers; and the ratio of number of crew members / passengers. The cabin/suite was very nice. I've also noted some of the cons in this review. This cruise felt "cliquish" in that were asked by many on the ship if we were "regulars" in the Seabourn family or new to the Seabourn family. A sad omen for our cruise occurred when we heard an announcement on the PA system from the captain, "All Staff, Code Oscar" indicating a passenger overboard. Within the first few hours of the cruise, a passenger was overboard (reportedly a suicide). Of course that is not the ship's fault, but the event started the cruise off on a very sad note. Much less serious but detracting from the cruise was the fact that at almost every port, the Quest was disadvantaged in our docking or anchoring. Other, larger ships got the preferred slots. The ship had to tender passengers to the port (sometime long distances -- twenty minute trips each way) far more often than indicated in the cruise brochure. The ship even had to move mid-day in Saguenay from its dock position and revert to tenders because another ship (The World) moved into our place. And in Quebec City, where the ship overnighted and spent two days, the ship was relegated to a remote dock in an industrial area where many of the cabins (including ours) faced a truly ugly industrial site with smokestacks spewing noxious fumes, making outside activities impossible. We could not use our balcony at all because of the bad smells. And travel into the old city of Quebec involved a shuttle (sometimes blocked by a drawbridge) rather than a short stroll passengers on the other cruise ships could do. Notably, a Crystal ship was in the preferred docking position. Seabourn needs to do something to ensure better access to the stops on the cruise as the tendering and dock locations detracted from the experience. As others have noted, the staff is first rate and very kind. The food was overall very good, but only in a few instances was it noteworthy. It was more like Country Club food than restaurant food, for the most part. Read Less

Had an amazing time with great fellow guests. Service was good Cabins very good, Décor throughout the ship was bland and beginning to show signs of wear. No fresh flower displays. Drinks we plentiful which dulled the senses before and during the slightly disappointing meals. Restaurant 1 was like dining in a canteen( food was OK though). Restaurant 2 was badly decorated, dark and gloomy with pretentious food and very small portions. Collonade buffet was excellent. No whole lobster to be seen anywhere, just lobster tails. Afternoon tea was very poor. Breakfast china...self service..and poor quality sandwiches and pasties, Seabourn are trying to cut corners and it notices all over the ship. The pool deck was very poor, for a supposed 6 star ship not to have cushions on the sun beds was amazing. Shows were excellent and that was down to the wonderful English singers and dancers. All in all...prefer Oceania. Read Less

My partner, her mom, and three of her mom's friends sailed from Boston to Montreal. This was our second cruise on the Symphony and their first. SHIP: The ship was in fantastic shape. Even as we were sailing, the carpet was being replaced as they continue to update the ship. We found our rooms to be comfortable and updated, and the public areas were beautiful. The only crowding was at the lunch buffet, were we had difficulty finding a seat...especially for 6. But I believe this was due to the cold weather, as passengers could not comfortably sit in the Trident area and were all forced into the Lido. FOOD: We found that the quality of food was again fantastic! As proven by the 5, yes 5 pounds that I gained! One thing I love to do on the Symphony is try new things, such as the Asian breakfast. I know that the quality of the food will be good so I'm not afraid of what I might get! We have been reading that service may be lacking since going all-inclusive and I can say that we found it to be the exact opposite! In particular, folks have been saying that the wine/cocktail service in dinner is slow, and I can tell you that for us it was not. And not only were drinks served fast, but our waiters remembered our drink preferences and had them almost immediately after we sat for dinner. Both speciality restaurants were fantastic, though I have a preference for Silk Road. CREW: The service from top to bottom was fantastic. Several of the crew remembered my partner and I from 2 years ago...we had to help them with our names, but they definitely remembered us! Our travel companions had never cruised with Crystal and they now say that they will not ever cruise with another line...and these people are well traveled! ENTERTAINMENT: We typically do not go to the shows, but did this time, as our travel companions wanted to go. I have to say the they were really good. The orchestra needs a little work, but the shows were good. We also loved Colin Salter in the Avenue Saloon and the pianist in The Cove. Really talented people. EMBARK/DISEMBARK: Perfectly done.
