We can only travel easily during July due to our fifteen year old son's school and athletic schedule. The Caribbean holds no allure for us during the heat of the summer, we've done Alaska, and the Pacific is so far from the East Coast of the US, therefore Europe is our preferred destination. This itinerary/ship seemed to be the best value that Celebrity had to offer for July in Europe, so after several other preliminary bookings on the Edge for this year, we settled on it in December 2018. We did 3 days in Barcelona prior to the cruise by booking a Celebrity City Stay Package. Hotel was nice and in a great location but the per person price was a little outrageous for a triple occupancy room. My son slept on a sofa bed that was left out the entire stay, leaving us little to no room to walk in the room. If I had been given the option of paying a single supplement, I would have, but alas Celebrity ignored my repeated inquiries prior to the cruise. I also am quite put out that having been notified we would NOT be visiting Sagrada Familia on our included city tour, I booked/pre-paid to visit on our own free time, then the tour guide took us there the final evening (as was stated in the original itinerary). Needless to say, I will NOT book a Celebrity City Stay package again (and indeed there were only 9 of us on this sailing who did) but will make our own arrangements. Boarding the ship was great--we were in a Royal Suite again (we have done the same on the Summit twice before) and the Constellation was so much like the Summit it was like coming home. I am actually glad that the Constellation had not been "revolutionized" yet. Everything on the ship was well-maintained. I don't need everything to be brand-spanking new and trendy to feel comfortable. The crew was STELLAR, as always. We love Luminae (our son only does dinner there--he prefers the buffet if he eats breakfast at all) and we were so happy to see familiar faces from our previous Summit cruises (Siraz, the sommelier and Armando who had been in Blu for our Southern Caribbean cruise). Being able to mix and match from the main dining room menu was also a big plus. Even though we had specialty dining included, we only ate in Tuscan Grill one night (meh...especially with Italian ports on the itinerary) and Sushi on Five for At Sea day lunch (yum). We have done Qsine before and it's not our favorite. We did miss Murano (was Ocean Liners on Constellation). I did get gelato at Cafe Al Bacio 3 or 4 afternoons, though. Got a pedicure on embarkation day (much needed but overpriced and the upsell pitch is unavoidable) and my son used the Gym equipment, hung with other teens at the pool but otherwise we did not frequent the spa/pool deck at all (except some late lunches at the Grill after excursions). Since we did an excursion every day in port and had only one sea day, did not get to maximize use of the ship's facilities. We were so tired most nights, we went back to the room after dinner (usually seated at 6:30 pm) and were lucky to be awake past 10 pm! Our son, of course, is a night owl and rarely came back to the room before 2 am. There were many teens on the cruise and he was well entertained--we even left him behind on the ship for 2 out of the 3 Dalmatian Coast ports since he was tired of shore excursions (said it was like being on a school field trip--too much history). I heard no reports of bad behavior from other cruisers and the ship's safety officer assured me they allow "teens to be teens" under watchful eyes. Our room steward and butler were accommodating and allowed him to sleep in the bedroom all morning while they attended to the rest of the suite. My husband and I only made it to one show in the theater (the last 30 minutes of the "Rock" show). We heard several of the shows were quite good. Our son went to the "Magic of Soul" hoping it was a magician or comedian (which we missed having on this sailing as well) and said he enjoyed the show anyway. We did go to the Rendezvous Lounge--the performers there were good (we could often hear them in Luminae, competing with the piped in music, which was distracting at meal time--wish they had closed the doors or turned off the piped in music) but not compelling listening. As always, there was those 1 or 2 couples who were putting their dance lessons to good use. We stayed for one of the Trivia games (Are you smarter than a Ship's Officer) which was entertaining enough to keep us awake. They seemed to be having a rash of illness among the performers during our sailing--several did not perform when expected. We went to our Cruise Critic meet and greet (nice to chat with others), Senior Officers Cocktail Reception in Micheal's on the second formal night (obligatory photo with Captain provided to us for "free") and couple evenings in Cellar Masters where we enjoyed a solo guitarist who interacted with us like we were the only ones listening (and we might have been) and also met a couple from the UK (Edinburgh)who surprisingly knew as much about the NFL as we did! We did Celebrity excursions for 4 ports (French Riviera x 2, Montenegro, Croatia), Rome In Limo private excursions for 3 (Florence/Pisa, Rome, Positano/Sorrento/Pompeii) and a Roll Call arranged Excursion (Slovenia-Lake Bled)with 14 others. I will review them separately but I will say that the only disappointing one was the Beach Day in Croatia--which Celebrity gave all participants a 50% refund after many complained upon return to the ship. I learned that, especially during the heat of the summer, 3 days pre-cruise and 5 port days in a row is exhausting to say the least. We'll either opt to stay on board in some ports or find an itinerary with more sea days scattered throughout for future cruises. Just hard to travel that far and not get off the ship! Unfortunately, it was raining in Venice the day we disembarked, which just added to the chaos in the terminal. Even though they have the Micheal's Club concierge escort you off the ship and have your bags in a separate location available whenever you want to leave, I saw no advantage for Suite guests. We had to line up with the masses to walk through customs (who did some random checks but were mostly just a bottleneck). Our intent was to take the People Mover to Piazzale Roma where our post-cruise hotel was, but ended up taking a Taxi for 40 Euro since we didn't feel like wandering around in the rain and he was right there at the exit and willing to take us (he was the second one we asked). We still had to haul our luggage over one bridge (3 sets of steps) but that's what 15 year old boys are good for, LOL. Checking into the hotel (Hotel Olympia) was crazy--lots of guests from our sailing checking in at the same time while folks on the next sailing were checking out and the rooms had to be cleaned). The lobby was wall to wall people and luggage--the bellman had to kick us out into the rain because there was no room to move. We explored and came back, drenched, after 2 pm when the rooms were ready as promised. It was actually a welcome change from the intense sun and heat we had every other day of the trip. Overall, we enjoyed our entire vacation, and came home exhausted but happy. The best part was meeting fellow cruisers (on land and at sea) from other parts of the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and South America. As always, Celebrity delivers a quality product and fully met our expectations. When something fell short, they fixed it in most cases, with the exception of the Celebrity City Stay Package (lesson learned). We put all of our travel nest egg in one proverbial basket for this trip and have no regrets--we feel we got what we paid for. I would not recommend Celebrity to a budget-minded traveler or someone who needs lots of excitement/over the top activities, but it suits our family's needs like a glove and is squarely in our comfort zone. After reading a fair few negative reviews I was rather worried about our trip. I had no need to be! The ship was beautiful, all areas were spotlessley clean and regularly kept that way. It had been reported that some public areas were in need of repair and showed wear and tear, we didn't see any area that wasn't wonderfully tended too. Our cabin, 6000 was surprisingly spacious and kept cleaned by our stateroom attendant Henry who was fantastic. The food was excellent in all restaurants. The bars were lovely and relaxing and the shows in the theatre of Broadway standard. Our 11 year old son was happy to spend time with his pals on the sports deck playing football and basketball. The itinary was great and we saw some lovely places. The crew treat you like royalty and all in all we had a wonderful time. I would not hesitate sailing with Celebrity again. The outdoor cinema on the rooftop terrace was a fabulous treat. Lots of lovely memories made. Read Less

This is my first time with Celebrity and I was most impressed with the excellent service from housekeepers to crew to waiters. Everyone was very friendly and helpful throughout the whole cruise. Also they always pass out a paper for next port so you can read through the FAQ for each port. ROOM: We stayed in an oceanview room second deck. Our restroom definitely needs some maintenance work cuz the handles on the sink cabinet came off the first day, then the hook on door came off the second day, then the entire shower head holder came off the last day almost hitting my head while I was showering. DINING: There are only 3 specialty dining (Qsine, Tuscan Grill, and Sushi on 5) on this ship but I was mislead by one of the sales while booking that this ship also has another fancy restaurant called Le Petit Chef Qsine Experience. So I end up purchasing 1 extra specialty dining night package. Qsine is a fusion restaurant. Every dish has fancy presentation but everything tastes disappointing. It's only worth going if you enjoy take food photos. Sushi on 5 is decent but my husband said the sashimi is not fresh enough. I only eat cooked food so the sushi tastes fine to me. The best food here turns out to be the appetizer Kobe beef sliders. It melts in your mouth. Tuscan Grill is the only one that's worth going back. Amazing appetizer Berkshire porkbelly with sweet cider glaze & crab cake. For entree we ordered Roasted beef ribeye and it was cooked to perfection so my husband end up finishing the entire 16oz steak by himself. Grilled Branzino taste good too. We went back again the next day. As for the 2 other complimentary dining, the Oceanview cafe is buffet style and overall food quality tastes lower than expected. Food was lukewarm and dessert was way too sweet. For breakfast I wish they had waffle machine so I can make fresh ones for myself. For dinner I end up going to the fresh stir fry station every night so I can get real hot food. San Marco Restaurant is the other complimentary dining more semi formal if you want to dress up. Food tastes better the the cafe but it takes a while to get your food. We end up only going there twice cuz we are always starving after our daily 9 hour excursion. Some nights I end up eating my instant noodles. Excursion: I booked 7 excursions with Celebrity. Overall tour quality was good but pricy. If I go again I might try to book local tours. I had a hard time understanding the first tour guide in France maybe due to her accent. I gave up listening to her after the first hour. All the tour guides were fine and I can understand them perfectly. Keep in mind these tours are always rushing you especially when you go to Florence and Rome. There's no time to take good photos and pay attention to listen to the tour guide at the same time. We almost always end up giving up on listening and focusing on taking good photos. I was most disappointed with the meals that's included in the these tours. The lunch included tours is at least $70 to $100 more per person but they only serve you lasagna. It feels like I am paying $100 more for a bite of salad, a thin slice of prosciutto, a piece of lasagna and tiramisu and sparkling water. This is for sure not worth your money. You should save it and just grab lunch on your own. Sea Day: Plan your day earlier. Avoid lunch and dinner time cuz there's no place to sit in the buffet area. Same for pools. There's a lot of activities that day and you can plan accordingly. WIFI: Very very slow speed at sea and we paid for unlimited plan for one device. Not sure what other options are out there. APP: I tried using the app but it wasn't really helpful for me. I booked excursions several months ahead and I completely forgot about the details of each excursions. I couldn't find this kind of information on the app. FEEDBACK: They will send you a survey at the end of your cruise but that survey has no blank area for me to write detail reviews like this. The only note area has limited character count that I couldn't even finish write 1 sentence. Not sure if they really want to improve and read our reviews. I might go back again with lower expectation on food quality. Overall their customer service is outstanding and this is why I might consider going back again. Read Less

We are a family of 5 with 3 daughters, 19,17,and 4. We wanted to travel to Europe but figured it was a better value and easier route to go on a cruise since we have a 4 year old. That way we could unpack and set up a routine, including valuable pool time and a familiar bed for this 9 port cruise. My husband and I had sailed in the Caribbean with Constellation previously and even though it is an older ship we enjoyed our past cruise and have nothing to complain about concerning the ship - though somewhat dated, it is kept clean and maintained adequately. Our whole family just loved this cruise! Being able to get to all those ports in Europe was just an incredible experience and we loved this itinerary since we got to see so much of the Meditteranean and a taste of the Adriatic. Our servers, room steward and staff around the ship was friendly and helpful. The cruise director, Alexandro, was hilarious, the singers around the ship were great, the guest performers, Vox Fortura, were excellent, and the ship singers and dancers on the main stage were great as well. They even did a matinee show during the day at sea which was well done - slightly strange storylline our 4 year old couldn't follow, but she liked the stage performance. We had a veranda room in the back which was awesome! Heard some chairs scraping on the Oceanview early in the morning but didn't matter too much because we were up early to venture out every day. The sleeping quarters worked out fine for our family, but if our older girls were larger or boys of that age it would have been too tight. Plenty of storage and closet space, and a huge mirror to get ready, just annoying there was only one outlet by the mirror which my daughters and I fought for. The only complaint I would have is that we ordered room service for breakfast a couple times when we had an early excursion and never got what we ordered - also got juice and coffee everyday ordered to come between 7-730 and it always came 6:45 or slightly earlier. Our young daughter loved the smaller pool and it is nice they provide life jackets for them if needed. We used the Oceanview cafe for breakfast only, lunch as well on the sea day. There's plenty to choose from, quality varies there but the food in the main dining room always had something for everyone. We had no trouble just going down and getting seated with our same waiter whenever we showed up, which was always between 5:45 - 7 PM. Easy embarkation and debarkation. We always did the ports on our own or hired private drivers. We think the ship excursions are way overpriced. We are not big drinkers so just had the 3 bottle wine special which was I think 120. Since we ate lunch in port we would sometimes get wine or beer then. Our children did not do the kids clubs - we were having too much fun just being a family together! Ports Barcelona- Had a couple days here before we set sail. Awesome city with beautiful Gaudi architecture, history, people watching, walking! Toulon - (La Seyne Sur Mer) I read about this port beforehand and knew we didn't want to stay here. Took a cab to the train station (Six Fours) and got a train to CAssis. Awesome city - super picturesque, took the 45 Min Calanques Ferry (pretty but we've seen similar in the US) and walked around town. The big issue was we couldn't find a cab or bus to take us to and from the town to the train station so be prepared for a steep walk on the way back if you go. Villefranche - toured the lovely city, then took the train to Nice and walked around. La Spezia - took the ferry to Portovenere and explored this beautiful, picturesque area. Civitavecchia - hired Rafael, from mycabinrome.com to take us to certain highlights around Rome. He was right on time picking us up in port with a newer van with AC, very knowledgeable about the ancient history of Rome, even helped us meet up with some family for lunch. Highly recommend! Naples - Used See Amalfi Coast company (driver Giovanni) to drive us to various towns on the Amalfi Coast. There was some confusion at pick up - we were told to meet him at the cruise terminal so took a shuttle there to wait for him - he went straight to the ship so we missed each other. Eventually with a few calls he found us. Giovanni was excellent, kept an eye on traffic conditions near Positano and after consulting us, we changed our itinerary to reduce our time in traffic and see a couple more towns instead. The scenery is gorgeous! Our daughter got carsick so take your Dramamine! Kotor, Montenegro - Gorgeous ride in - wake up early for this awesome display of God's handiwork!! We walked through the old town and straight up to the top of the fortress first thing in the morning - 1350 steps up with a 4 year old! If you do this climb you need to do it first thing before the sun bakes the trail. Split, Croatia - explored Diocletian's palace, some of us went up the bell tower. There isn't much to do/see here after that in port, especially after seeing Kotor. Venice - we got an airbnb here for a couple days after disembarkation. Took the Alilaguna straight from the cruise terminal to a spot near our apt. Recommend getting the 24 ACTV waterbus pass so you can go up/down the Grand CAnal, take a side trip to Murano or Burano. We went to Burano where all the houses are painted various bright colors - super great photo spot! Wish it was in the budget to do this more often - it was an awesome trip! Read Less

Itinerary and time of year were good. The ship itself was clean and the staff were lovely. Our butler was fantastic. The sky suite however - not acceptable. We've sailed with Celebrity 3 times and all were on S class (just so you know I'm comparing apples to apples) The loveseat was filthy. Stains that should have been cleaned long ago and if not possible, replace the loveseat. It makes one wonder about sanitation. The top sheet on the bed was frayed every day. Granted, the part that's tucked into the bed, but I sleep with the sheets pulled out and that's how I saw their condition. Clean, yes. But frayed. There is also something in the bath water, or the cleaning supplies used in the tub because I broke out in a rash everywhere the bathwater touched. This is the 2nd year in a row on the same ship. So I started using the bottled water for my face and neck and presto - no rash. Of course, I can't bathe in bottled water, nor do I really know if it's a water problem or a detergent, but something's not right. Read Less

We had a great cruise and found no problems with Celebrity Constellation, despite comments we had read about it in earlier reviews. It wasn't tired or in need of a complete refurbishment (although we were advised that is to happen on 2020). We arrived late due to weather problems at Barcelona Airport. It meant we were almost last on the ship and didn't receive any Celebrity Welcome Aboard from any staff member and that was disappointing. The Cabin (8133) was Midship and port side. It was excellent and clean and Kevin kept it that way throughout the cruise. Was close to the Library and easy access to the lifts. Breakfast - we tried the Restaurant, OceanView, Solarium and then room service (for both sea days to avoid the crowds). We preferred OceanView. Lunch - we tried Master Grill, restaurant and OceanView. Oceanview was again our favourite even although it was very busy on occasions. Dinner - used two Speciality Restaurants and the main dining room. Tuscan Grille - was good with excellent service from the staff. Qsine - the food was absolutely excellent, although the portions were bigger than we had expected. The service did not add the the dining experience. We had to ask three times for a further glass of wine before we got it. The overall service was not warm or sincere and managed to get the coffee delivered ten minutes before the dessert arrived. Some improvements needed in this area. Main Dining Room - food was wonderful and could not be bettered. Service was inconsistent, cold, disinterested on occasions and yet on other times absolutely fine. Entertainment - we enjoyed it all - we missed Steve Womack which was annoying. Izzy and Moe were simply wonderful and had their own following throughout the cruise. What talent they have. We watched two films/movies on the outdoor deck. Great area to watch films/movies but their choice was awful. We watched McQueen and Ready Player One. Excursions - we enjoyed Mount Etna (except the bus journey and busyness) and Taormina, Sicily. The Walking Tour to Kotor, Montenegro was awful (we paid $88 for 45 mins inside churches) . It visited three churches and that was about it. The Waking Tour to Split was excellent. The Tenders to and from Kotor were entertaining due to the wind and spray. The Ship's Captain helpfully agreed that we could go ashore despite the local authorities saying it was not recommended. Good decision as wasn't all that rough or dangerous. We loved the cruise, the weather was superb, the ship was good with more than enough to do. So much of our disappointments were around the very inconsistent service from the staff. Some excellent and some quite simply dis-interested. Our biggest frustration was having to get a bus from the Post of Venice early in the morning to the airport and getting to the airport before 8.30am for a 12.50pm flight (which was delayed by an hour). Over 4 and a half hours (which ended up being five and a half hours) at the airport for a two and a half hour flight home! Just to get us off the ship early to allow them get it cleaned for the next cruise. We met passengers would arrived at the airport after 10.30pm for a 1.00pm flight. Very frustrating. Read Less

We chose this cruise mainly for the itinerary even though we prefer Celebrity typically anyway. It went from Barcelona to Valencia, Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, Catania, Kotor, Split and ended in Venice. There were 8 of us so it was a large group. We were in Barcelona two years ago and realized we did not give ourselves enough time to see it so we spent an extra two days there as well as in Venice. Both cities have so much to offer. Ship The service, food and ship were great. We saw some negative reviews about how dated the ship was and we did not see that at all. Was it a new ship? No. Was it clean and well maintained? Absolutely! We have been on over 10 cruises with Celebrity, Carnival and Royal Caribbean so I think we have a general idea of what to expect. It was a smaller ship and that was just fine with us. It had everything we needed and did not appear crowded except on sea days around the pool which is typical. The food and service was great both in the dining room and buffet. What impressed us was that they varied the menu in the buffet along with keeping the standard type of fare. The burgers and hot dogs on the pool deck were good but not grilled to order. I will take the Guy Fieri burgers offered on Carnival any day. The service throughout was very good. I need to give special recognition to Victor, the cabin steward, Rhys and Joao in the dining room and especially Roxanne who made me great cappuccinos every morning at the Cafe Bacio. Entertainment was good as well. Ports and Excursions: We had quite a few credits to use and while we usually book our excursions privately, we used our credits on three Celebrity excursions and all were great. Valencia was all right and just roamed the town. We took a ship excursion in Ibiza to the beach and had a great beach day. In Palma de Mallorca, having visited the city last time, we took a ship excursion to Soller. It was a bus ride to Soller with a short hour visit and then back on the antique train. That was a nice way to see a different part of the island and spend the day. We booked a wine tasting directly with Sicily 4 You which was very enjoyable. We also visited a bakery for some of the best cannoli we ever had. We used Sicily 4 You on our previous trip for another tour and they were so good, we went with them again. We booked directly with Tours by Milo for their All in One plus Perast tour in Montenegro which was a really nice way to see the country. Montenegro was really a great stop. We had a little time to visit the Old Town of Kotor. Unfortunately it was windy the day we visited and the tenders were delayed in getting us to the port. It was also due to the weather we were not able to see our Lady of the Rocks church or spend more time in Old Town. We booked a Celebrity excursion for Split that took us to Trogir and Diocletians palace. That was great excursion as well and highly recommended. In Venice was great and we roamed the city on our own but did purchase tickets for the Secret Tour for the Doge's Palace ahead of time. That was really good. All in all it was a great trip and experience. Read Less

We were concerned about a long sea journey at the start of a cruise so opted for this itinerary as it boarded in Barcelona. The ports of call all appealed, with many being our first visit. I had been recommended to Celebrity because of the service and friendliness of staff which DID NOT disappoint. Although only a deck 2 ocean view cabin it was extremely comfortable and surprisingly spacious. Dean ( our stateroom attendant) was very efficient and friendly and made us very welcome throughout. We dined mainly in the Main Restaurant and were lucky enough to have Jorge, Kumamoto and Elvin looking after us and they were truly amazing. We couldn’t ask for more attentive and genuine staff. Olga and Jacqueline at front desk of the main restaurant always greeted us with a warm welcome and again really made every night an experience. We only tried 1 speciality restaurant on our first cruise experience, Qsine, and although nice and quirky (and loads of food) we preferred the main restaurant. Entertainment was varied and plentiful and we loved the experience of the poolside ‘silent disco’. We also caught the new avengers film one evening which gave us a nice relaxing night. As this was our first cruise we were very impressed and we liked the intimency of a smaller ship - although some passengers said it needs the refurbishment in 2020 - as we had nothing to compare it to we were very pleased with the overall decor and standards. The ship was lovely using more traditional teak colours. The lifts were lined with wood, some lifts had sea views, lovely coloured glass on ceilings .The main dining room had a beautiful large coloured glass ceiling and beautiful windows. Large port holes gave light to many of the public areas. Some of these areas did seem a little dark in the evening A large outdoor screen on the rooftop terrace with comfortable settees. Plenty of sun beds available to enjoy the weather. Food in the ocean view cafe and San Marco restaurant was fabulous with wonderful service. Cafe allbacio was lovely with views of the sea Our negative was the overall entertainment, not much live music throughout the ship and noisy activities in the rendezvous lounge which was the path in and out to dinner.very off putting. Theatre was good but the stage shows quite noisy. Shore excursions were great but expensive Read Less

We chose this cruise for the ports. It was a wonderful experience. Our cabin steward was kind, caring, and attentive. A very hard worker and we appreciated his trustworthiness! The ship shows some signs of age, especially in the cabin bathrooms but it didn’t impede our enjoyment. Food was okay, not the best we have had but the staff all over the ship were great - especially in the kids club. The programming for kids was great. Our son, 10, loved it! He made friend with other children from all over the world and he couldn’t wait to go back every day. It gave us time to ourselves and him time to be a kid. Our least favorite poet was, sadly, Split. I so wanted it to be better than it was. Crowded and beyond hot. It was unbearable. The rest of the ports were awesome! Side note - we felt hiring private guides was better and less expensive that ship excursions. I’d recommend this cruise and ship. Go- have fun! Read Less

Chose this trip to take my family, wife, 2 married children and 2 grandchildren on a Med cruise in August The ship is very tired There were too many passengers 2560 compared to the advertised capacity and no extra staff. Consequently bar service slow, public areas not cleaned to a high enough stand. Open dining arrangements a nightmare and when we had to use a tender service about a 1.25 hour wait!! That said the grandchildren (10 & 14) had a fabulous time so therefore their parents could also enjoy their holiday. I had no expectations so in that respect I was not disappointed Fortunately, on day 2 we bumped into the captain and hotel manager who asked if everything was ok. After explaining the dining experience the hotel manager made a couple of calls and our situation was satisfactorily resolved. Also my daughter used to see him in the gym and he repeatedly asked if things were ok. We received a complimentary meal in one of the specialty restaurants Read Less

This was my first cruise and I absolutely loved it. I couldnt believe how effortless boarding the ship was, I've never seen such an efficient operation before, it was quite impressive. We ate at the main dining room most nights and were served by an amazing team, in particular our sommelier Ana was brillant, there was 11 of us in total some nights, 3 of us wanted anything with bubbbles, 2 preferred red and the rest different whites and not only did Ana's suggestions hit the spot, she remembered our choices and our names. Mayuresh was our waiter and he was also wonderful, I can't say enough about the 2 of them. The buffet was ok they had a good selection for breakfast and lunch, but dinner was just ok not as many options as I would've liked which is the main reason I enjoyed going to the dining room. The ship is in ok condition and I think it's being refurbished in the next year or 2, which will be great and I hope they consider 1 change, the smoking area is too close to the pingpong tables and one of the entries to the buffet. Trips ashore were easy to arrange, mostly sightseeing tours and a few adventure options as well. I would sail with Celebrity again. Read Less

BACKGROUND My DW and I are Diamond RCCL cruisers, we decided to give Celebrity a try to open up more itinerary choices. The fact that Celebrity gives us Elite status was another deciding factor. We have sailed smaller ships and mega ships before and are ok with either, understanding that we usually have to give up size for a more unique itinerary. We chose this Constellation 9 night cruise based on the Barcelona to Venice Mediterranean sailing that included Croatia and Montenegro. PRE-CRUISE Had no problems with the Celebrity website, the booking process, selection of meal times, tours, etc. I was able to set up my schedule exactly the way I wanted. Bought a couple of excursions. So far so good… I have to say that I was a bit dismayed with some of the recent Constellation reviews on Cruise Critic. A few of them described the ship as being “in major disrepair” and as being filthy. There were also reviews that complained about terrible service and rude staff members. As an experienced reader of reviews, I understand that opinions can vary widely. I also understood this ship wasn’t built yesterday. EMBARKATION (BARCELONA) Was a breeze. This time we opted for a later pier arrival (so that we could enjoy a few last hours of Barcelona) of around 2:30ish and we basically were able to walk on, go directly to our room, etc. We had priority boarding but really didn’t need it. We were able to buy some wine in the port store and carry it on with no issues. THE SHIP Obviously not a new ship, the Constellation does show some wear and tear. To describe it as being in “major disrepair” or “filthy” is simply ridiculous. Ship was certainly clean and we observed adequate ongoing cleaning activities. We spent most of our deck time in the solarium and there was always an attendant there cleaning and drying the floors from pool and spa splashes. Most of the deck chairs looked brand new. The carpeting didn’t even appear that worn to me. After reading those scathing reviews read pre-cruise, I was very pleased with the ship’s condition. Layout was also easy to learn. THE CABIN – 8002 We usually opt for a balcony but settled for an Oceanview (booked a Guarantee) in order to spend more on sightseeing, etc. We were assigned cabin 8002 which turned out to be a really oversized oceanview (due to the shape of the outside of the ship and the hallway, this cabin is like 30-40% longer than the standard oceanview. We really enjoyed the space!! The location of the cabin (extreme FWD) was not of any consequence regarding noise or movement on this sailing. Regarding condition/cleanliness – perhaps a little (and I mean a little) wear and tear, but very clean. We had no complaints about the cabin. Our Cabin Steward, Neil from India, was fantastic (best we’ve ever had on any cruise). Always a big plus when the Steward seeks you out on day one to both greet you and to find out if you have any questions/requests. DINING Always subjective, but here goes. We had Select Dining and I made reservations for dinners pre-cruise. We only really had an issue on night one when we waited in the reservation line for 30 minutes (behind a large group of suite guests with NO reservation that were trying to get multiple tables together, by the windows, etc, etc). IMO, the hostess really should have pulled this group aside to seat those in line WITH reservations. When we finally got to the hostess, she declared “you’re late for your reservation”, to which I replied “think it’s the other way around because we were here on time”. We were automatically seated at tables for two, which by the way, are like 6 inches from other tables for two. Really more like a table for four. We didn’t mind the closeness (we met some really great couples) but there is a bit of awkwardness because the food is coming at different times at each table of two - since the couples are seated at different times. On to the dining room food quality: overall, a bit better than RCCL. The prime rib was really good, as were the fish dishes. Loved having some new choices. Service in the dining room was very good overall, think we had one waiter on one night that was just average. No issues at all with wine and drink service either. We have had issues in the past on RCCL (getting timely drinks in the dining room), no issues on the Constellation. The Oceanview Café was also a positive experience for us. A big plus was that there were always open seats (which is not the case on the larger RCCL ships). I give the food quality and selection a slight edge over RCCL. We did not eat in any specialty restaurants. THE STAFF Our overall experience with Constellation staff members was excellent. I already mentioned our exemplary Cabin Steward. Many, many staff members called us by name (more so than any previous cruise). Of the several dining room teams that served us dinner, we only had one waiter that was “so-so”. The Captain’s Club Ambassador was very attentive during the evening happy hour. Our one interface with Guest Services (complaints about the really crappy internet) was handled to our satisfaction. The staff members in the Oceanview Café were very efficient, dirty plates were always quickly removed- pleasantly. I was also impressed with how organized the queues for excursions were handled by those staff members. I mentioned the slightly snooty Select Dining hostess -after the first night our interactions with her were fine. So, call me completely puzzled by those negative staff reviews I’d read pre-cruise….. CAPTAIN’S CLUB Certainly enjoyed the nightly cocktail hour(s). No drink coupons loaded on the card for this cruise, the cocktail crowd was always pretty small. Appetizers at the Elite happy hour were pretty weak, IMO the RCCL Diamond Lounge had better offerings. The free bags of laundry were fantastic. Also enjoyed the Elite breakfast. MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTS BEDDING- we slept fine but the mattresses could definitely use an upgrade. Also, it appears Celebrity does not use that foam “crack filler” when beds are pushed together? INTERNET- Absolutely horrible on this cruise. We could hardly get into our email, forget about uploading more than one picture at a time. After complaining at Guest Services, we were sent to talk to the “specialist” in the IT Lounge. He admitted that on that cruise the bandwith was “not what they had hoped for”. We ended up getting a 50% refund which I thought was fair. INTERACTIVE TV- How about posting the dining room menus here? Also was able to view my daily schedule on the newer RCCL ships, missed that here…. FELLOW PASSENGERS- Maybe it was the itinerary, maybe it was Celebrity – not sure which, but as a whole, we experienced a great group of savvy travelers (with the exception of the guy grabbing the buffet food with his hands – there has to be one on every cruise). Average age was also younger than we expected. CONCLUSION We enjoyed our first Celebrity cruise and would not hesitate to consider this line in the future. We look at Celebrity as an extension of RCCL, the slightly better food and service being an extra perk. Really wish we still earned RCCL points for Celebrity sailings though!! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had been on celebrity summit previously which was excelllent. We did back to back cruises of the Mediterraneanthis time. The destinations were wonderful but the staff were poor in comparison with a few exceptions Suraraj , Joyce and Choti. We travelled in a sky suite which gave us access to Luminae restaurant and Michaels club. The concierge never spoke to us the entire first cruise. Eventually we had to speak to him about remaining on the ship when the cruise ended. Most of the staff at luminae greeted us with ‘good evening sir’. I now know it’s true. Women over 60 don’t exist. The Oceanview cafe was terrible in terms of organisation of the food and was an absolute bun fight on sea days. Have been on ships with larger capacity which have been excellent in terms of organisation. Luminaes opening hours too short. We had breakfast in our room after several days. Even that was difficult as every day we had to ASK for a breakfast menu. The food was very good. Entertainment on the whole pretty good. Our cabin probably needed a good clean. Carpet stained and furniture the same. At the end of the first cruise my husband(they don’t want a woman’s opinion) received an email from celebrity to review the cruise which he duly did. Big mistake! As he rated the ship relatively poorly he was sought out by various staff about the rating he had given. In fact one of the waiters in Luminae just about drove us insane. Every time he brought something to the table he would tell us it was 10/10 service. Have never been on a ship that had so many men in the service areas and so few women. Read Less

We embarked the ship around 12:00pm, and our rooms weren’t ready until 1:00pm however it did give us a chance to explore the ship & enjoy the food. On the first evening the restaurants were super busy - so i would recommend booking or turing up early. However we did manage to find a table at the Tuscan restaurant where the staff were very friendly and accomodating & gave us very generous portions! The rest of the nights we ate at the San Marco restaurant (where we had to book each evening) but it did mean that we had the same waiters each night & they got to know us very well. Our main waiter Santosa, was extremely friendly & gave us recommendations each night on what to eat. By the last couple of nights he knew exactly what we liked to drink (so he would pre-order our drinks for us) and what our favourites were on the menu. He also referred to me & my family as Miss, Sir and Madame. For me personally, the friendly & generous staff in this restaurant were what made the holiday. Again, the rooms were lovely & not dated (i was warey of this as other reviews did mention it). Our room steward was again very friendly & helpful, making our beds each day & changing the towels twice a day. My family & i went on three shore excursions which were good. We went to Rome, Venice & Pisa. The tour guides were excellent, and had a lot of information to offer. The tours were well organised (on celebrity’s behalf), especially if you didn’t have a tour booked you could easily get off and on the ship to explore the cities. The only negative i would have is that the on board facilities are minimal and they could have more to offer, for instance a bigger swimming pool - but you do know this when booking th cruise! Overall, i had an incredible holiday & would particularly like to highlight the amazing staff on the ship as their friendliness and services were above and beyond what i ever expected! Read Less

There were four adults in our party. We chose the Jet Set Sail for the second time because we knew it would be an excellent start to our holiday, we were not disappointed, it was just as we remembered....& we will definitely do it again. Embarkation was smooth & we were pleased with our cabin which was kept very clean by our cabin steward throughout the holiday, a friendly young man. It was however very noisy at around 5am each day when the sun beds were dragged across the deck. As we were Aqua Class again we were in the Blu restaurant....definitely no complaints there. As usual we also dined in Quisine & Tuscan & both lived up to expectations. We didn't go to the theatre on this cruise as we were socialising with people that we had met & so missed many good acts. We did however visit the casino each evening, my guilty pleasure while cruising.... Lunch in the cafeteria was exactly the same each day so we quickly lost interest in that. Unfortunately too much time couldn't be spent round the pool due to the fact that there were so many unsupervised young children in the pools & hot tubs. We did try using the solarium but the same thing happened there...neither children nor parents paid any attention to the pool butlers when they were asked to leave. Definitely not enough security to back them up. It was like being on a Disney cruise without Micky Mouse. We will think twice before sailing on Constellation again!! I have ticked family cruise in the boxes below as this is what it appeared to be as there were just so many children. We have been on Celebrity cruises before where there were children, but all were well behaved with thoughtful parents. Read Less

Really enjoyed this short cruise from Barcelona to Venice as Part of a longer holiday in Spain and Italy. Had a balcony cabin on deck 7 which had been recently refurbished and was very nice comparing well with our Aqua Class cabin on Eclipse the previous year. The cabin steward was friendly and helpful as were all the crew we encountered. Having been spoilt by the Blu restaurant we did find the MDR a bit overwhelming but really enjoyed eating from the buffet in the Sunset Bar for several nights instead. We had a lovely meal in Tuscan and would go there again but didn’t really get the concept in Quisine so would probably not bother with that on future cruises. We enjoyed most of the ports we called at on this cruise except Genoa as it was a Monday and most of the tourist attractions were closed. The info on the ship didn’t make you aware of that so after a very hot walk standing at the entrance of things we could have visited on a different day we took the open top bus tour and then got back on the boat! We did the Vatican Behind the Scenes Tour run by Celebrity which was very good but included a meal in a hotel near by. Unfortunately we were not impressed with the, quality of the food or service which was slow and wasted an hour of our short time in the city. We were left feeling we had paid a lot of money for something that we could have got far cheaper and better by finding somewhere ourselves. Neither was it a traditional Italian meal in a local restaurant that celebrity suggests you will get. Overall though this was another great cruise and we would use celebrity again Read Less

This was our third cruise with Celebrity. It was a disappointment at all levels . It was a big step down from our experience from two years ago with Celebrity Equinox. This was a Mediterranean cruise . It was no entertainment on deck in the evening. It was no fitness or other outdoor activities like the previous Celebrity cruise. It was a lack of service and amenities. It was also a big disappointment in food quality and diversity . Food that we enjoyed at the buffet in the past now we had to go to special restaurants and pay extra. My husband and I had classic beverage packege but to get your cappuccino you had to go to the 5 th floor from 10th floor in order to get it . It was no cappuccino machine at any outdoor bars and any other indoor bars except the 5 th floor. People who catered to us were great but not to many of them ... Many times I had to clean my table and waiters were no where to be found. Overall it was not a good experience Read Less

This was our 2nd trip on this ship and the food was still amazing. It didn’t matter whether you ate in the buffet or main dining room the food was fantastic in both. Cabin was lovely with a nice balcony. Towels changed twice a day and cabin kept very clean and tidy by our steward. We travelled with another couple and our bookings were linked so we could eat together every evening. The service on the ship is brilliant and couldn’t fault it. The only thing that lets it down is the entertainment in the main showcase theatre, which is very mediocre. Having said that it wouldn’t stop me booking again with celebrity. The shore excursions are very expensive compared to other cruises we have been on and nothing that really appealed to us so didn’t book many. The pool staff need to keep kids out of areas where they shouldn’t be ie. the solarium. Read Less

CELEBRITY CONSTELLATION – NOT A 5 STAR SHIP We have just returned from a 14n (back to back) cruise on the Celebrity Constellation. We have been great fans of the Celebrity product in the past and have been on Constellation before, but both the ship and some of the staff, are in need of a serious shake-up. Torn and tatty bed linen, bathrooms with rust and filthy, stained tiling, grey torn deck towels that you wouldn’t buy in a jumble sale and sun beds that are rusty and broken are just not acceptable. Very young children( 3,7,8yrs) in the whirlpool late at night, totally unsupervised. Staff knew of this and chose not to approach the parents. A lack of drinks service on some of the sun decks led to large queues at the bars and much frustration. The dress code, always a contentious issue, was constantly flouted. A bare chested man in swimming trunks being served at the Martini bar on a ‘chic night’ is just not acceptable when most people have gone to a lot of trouble to look smart. Swimwear and foul language in the ‘elite party’ is not what guests want, particularly when the guests were not in the elite club– neither occurrence was challenged by the staff. On chic night, we dined in one speciality restaurant, quisine. With the managers approval, one guest wore swimwear and a baseball cap! Celebrity want to attract repeat customers so the logic of offering virtually identical (not particularly good) entertainment on the two successive 7n cruises is a real let down. The shows, although of a good standard, are primarily aimed at the American audience. It would be great to see the Broadway show reintroduced as it appeals to all nationalities and all ages. Surely it should be possible to at least change the menu weekly in the San Marco dining room to accommodate back to back cruisers.A noisy cabin (a vibrating headboard from the engine noise) required us to sleep in an inside cabin for several nights. we were then disturbed by 30 luggage trolleys being very noisily moved for 2 hours in the middle of the night. Despite booking and paying for an outside cabin we were only given $100 obs in compensation. Nowhere near the real difference in the cost of cabins. This Level of compensation and falling standards in everyway has ensured that we have felt more like commodities than valued customers. We have cancelled other cruises booked for 2019 on Celebrity Constellation and will look to other lines for a 5 star product. Wake up Celebrity as other passengers will be voting with their feet too. The 3 lonely stars of this ship are Gabriella( housekeeping) Thomas and Marko( cellar masters) thank you guys for all you did to help make our holiday better than it would otherwise have been. I chose this specific cruise for the itinerary, and chose this line because I've cruised on Celebrity before and it was wonderful. There are similar cruises for much less, but I decided to go with Celebrity due to our previous experience. I do not drink alcohol and was forced to buy a "water" package, as the water in our room, and at the buffet was brown. The service was about the worst I've ever received anywhere and I'm including any travel any where in the world on land or sea. I had to get my bottled water at the bars-my average wait time was 15 minutes and this was even if there was only one person sitting at the bar. This was consistent, every time. This lack of service was the same for our traveling companions, one of which only drinks beer, not a mixed drink. How difficult is it to hand you a bottle of beer or water. And heaven forbid I ask for 2 bottles of water at the same time!!! The bartenders will not make eye contact (they appear to be trained to do this, since it is at every bar, unless you are very young and wearing a low cut dress or bikini) and the only way to get their attention is either by banging your hand on the bar or yelling, either of which is not my style. I'm a vegan, again chose this cruise because I was assured they could accommodate my diet. They did not. The Spa Cafe staff was incredibly rude, with the exception of my last day. Another complaint I have is that I paid for my water, I don't drink soda, and they charged me for a stinking smoothie. Over $6000 for the cruise, another $200 for WATER, and I had to pay for a smoothie. We had a massage at the spa which triggered my husband's sciatica which was fine and had been for the last 2 years. Next day he was taken by wheelchair to Medical for treatment (which was the only decent department on the cruise) as he could not stand. Spa denied any responsibility, they reimbursed his massage, but not his medical expenses. Again, poor customer service, why not go the extra mile instead of arguing with us? The internet service, for which I paid, was abysmal. We could not wait to get off this ship. We I came home there was article in Forbes that Celebrity is redoing this, among other ships. I will not be cruising with this line again. I've booked my next cruise on Uniworld. Due to either an excursion or my husband being in bed, (he also had GI problems from the food) we did not make our meal seating until the last day, and this was not well received. We were told to "go downstairs" where we were given a table by the entrance, again food bad (who burns gnocchi?) waiter clearly annoyed when we came in at 8pm. At the end of the substandard meal, I had to ask for coffee. My husband asked for decaf, which it clearly wasn't as he was up all night, and my green tea was black. The views were beautiful, although we did not see Montenegro, (husband's injury) but the ship terrible. Cruising is usually a great way to travel because the service is outstanding. Not on Celebrity. This cruise was part of a trip which combined a stay in Lake Garda and return journey on the Orient Express. We have travelled with Celebrity before and this was our worst ever cruise. The ship is extremely old and shabby. The staterooms are tired and in need of a complete refurbishment although they were clean. The tables are absolutely crammed together in the main dining room. The evening meal has the same core menu every evening, with a few variations to the beef, chicken and lamb dishes. The service, if you can call it that, is rushed and unprofessional. The pool areas are noisy with music blaring from 9am every morning there is a distinct lack of quiet areas. The excursions are extremely expensive and poor value for money. The standards have definitely dropped, this is not a 5* cruise. I will never sale with Celebrity again. This was part of an very expensive holiday and it certainly tainted the whole experience! We had never before sailed with Celebrity but have done so with several other cruise lines. Our Jet Set Sail package was attractively priced and enticed us to book. The outward flight was good and there was a smooth transfer to the ship. Constellation was what we expected it to be, clean with good food, and polite staff. The ports of call were good choices but the shore excursion prices were well off the scale - come on Celebrity you can price things much lower. For half the price of a single person's trip you can get taxis willing to take you to the same places and more. The ship's own theatre entertainment team was nothing special - sat behind the theatre sound desk one night - six people singing but only 3 mics lit up - so 3 were mimimg to the backing track??? However the "guest" acts were excellent. Also did not understand why the other entertainers that performed around the ship only had 45 minute slots before they had to pack up and move on to another venue onboard. During the day there was not a lot of activities compared to other cruise lines, however we did enjoy the daily quizzes on general Knowledge and music. The cabin we had was spacious and well appointed with an attentive and pleasant steward. All in all the cruise was enjoyable but not exciting. Then came the nightmare of the return journey home after a cancelled flight which showed up a lack of customer care. No drinks, no food, no advice for nearly five hours after the original flight time - by the research of the 85 passengers concerned it was our collective belief that Celebrity had known there was a long delay in the flight departure before we diembarked the ship and had failed to act upon it. Overnight stay and repatriation via Heathrow and coach transfer to Stansted appreciated but again a lack of care as nothing to eat or drink provided for the journey - something we had already paid for via Jet Set Sail. Yes we have been offered compensation but we are still awaiting payment from the airline Celebrity chartered and also expenses paid claimed from Celebrity - this is the automatic response from an email sent to Celebrity - Thank you for contacting our Customer Relations department, this is an automated confirmation that your email has been received. We are reviewing your comments and one of our team will contact you in due course. We aim for this to be within 28 days. We chose this cruise after hearing that Celebrity was one of the best lines and the itinerary looked great. Any notion of that ended quite quickly on this cruise. I will preface that I do not consider myself a picky traveler at all - I am overseas all the time for work and don’t require much. The issues started with one of our suitcases not arriving at the room and after a call to our cabin steward, being informed very rudely that I needed to fetch it from deck 1. Once I trekked down there, they handed me my bag (which was properly tagged) with no explanation. Only in the elevator did another guest explain that hers was held up due to having an electrical cord in it, so I am guessing my curling iron was the culprit but was never given any explanation or warning prior to packing that electric devices would be an issue. Then came the fun part... booked an excursion to Milan from Genoa which was downright horrid. The bus stopped at a rest area for 1/2 hour, shortening our time in the city significantly. The description included seeing Duomo and La Scala. 90 min into it, our long-winded and hard to understand guide (Daniela) had shown us a no parking sign and 2 “back alleys” and none of the sights. After viewing the back alley side of La Scala, we finally asked the Celebrity rep whether we could proceed to the church and she stated that we would only see it from the outside. If we had known in advance we could have easily got timed tickets ourselves online, but they would not disclose the agenda, preventing us from planning for ourselves to actually see the city. We broke off and crammed as much in on our own as we could in the limited time we were afforded, but disappointingly we barely scratched the surface of Milan thanks to all of the wasted time. I hoped this was an anomaly by at dinner we found our friends had a similar experience on their tour to Portofino - barely having time to see anything at all due to inept guides. We put on our game faces hoping for a better day in Rome, but alas, our bus stopped at the gate to the port for over 30 min (watching all the other buses from the Disney ship pass us by) to do some kind of personnel transfer. So underway an hour later for an already short day to try to take in a little of Rome. We will book on our own for the other ports and avoid anything related to Celebrity excursions. I will say that the food on the ship has been very good and there are some nice spaces. But the service at the bars and in the staterooms is nothing to write home about and definitely a few notches below Princess or Disney, our other cruise experiences. Disappointing for sure. Read Less

We hadn't been on Connie since she was doing Caribbean cruises. We enjoyed the updates though it was a strange cruise to us. We enjoy the port intensive itineraries in Europe. Montenegro is a must return destination. Our experience with the crew is greatly improved from what we remembered. Only issue was that guests were permitted to skip the hand sanitizer when entering the buffet. Seems like a bad plan. Entertainment was odd to us. We normally go to a show every night plus a few in the alternate venues. Often there was only one show in the main theater and it was late like after 9pm. With many early starts that just doesn't work. Shows mustn't be well attended if they only schedule one. The few we stopped in on were below par in our opinion. We did have two tender ports and thought the crew did a good job keeping that moving. Some ships just seem to always have tender problems. Not this one. Beware the excursion to Krka Park. Must bring your passport which is a problem if you want to swim together. 45 minute stop for wandering, swimming and picture taking. 35 minute queue to the women's rest rooms. Must have Croatian currency to use the toilet. This is the only stop in Croatia and the ship does not carry Croatian currency. Men were seen "wandering off" while women were appealing to the attendant to accept euros. Luminae was excellent and the staff worked together like a very fine team. We were exceptionally well cared for. The cruise critic Meet and Greet was scheduled at 7pm so right during dinner. There had to be a better time to not limit attendance. Our room (SS2) was in good condition. Some obvious rusting out on the balcony but not bad for a 16 year old ship. I like the feel of this class as it never feels crowded. We never saw more than maybe ten people in Michaels Club. Joao was a great host. Arrival in Venice went very well. Celebrity was probably a half hour or more ahead of the scheduled departures and the authorities had plenty of people to keep things moving smoothly. All in all we had a great cruise. Read Less
