Chose this cruise because of the ports it was visiting. Beautiful ship, although dated with some maintenance needed. Hygiene was not enforced, there were plenty of containers full of hand cleanser but rarely used. At the buffet people just dived in with hands to get food even though serving spoons were there. Noticed many people using toilet facilities but not washing hands. Many people got gastro, flu, coughing with doctors & nurses kept busy. It felt as though English speaking guests were not welcome, activities were for European guests. Entertainment was poor with the best shows being put on at dinner by the wait staff. Enjoyed the food at restaurants, wait staff pleasant, although at times their serving was like an outdoor cafe. Children ran riot well after midnight. Many young staff on who thought everyone was deaf, so yelled loving the sound of their own voices. Reception staff were unable to solve issues raised which could have been dealt with by some FAQs. Felt they were justifying their jobs! Lacked leadership. Had to pay extra for ice cream, coffee, pizza. Photos expensive, 14 Euro. Shore excursions expensive, easier to do yourself. Spa area needs a revamp. Read Less

We have never sailed with MSC before but thought we would give it a try. We were aware that it is an Italian based cruise line and there would be a mix of nationalities, with announcements in different languages, and kept an open mind on how well this would work. Embarkation was quick and smooth, about 15 t0 20mins from entering the terminal. First impressions of the ship were good. Quite glitzy with the use of mirrors etc. most areas looked impressive. Balcony cabin was ok but TV a little small with poor channel selection. Any movies available were chargeable, compared to our last cruise on P&O Brittania which had a large selection of movies that were free. Tea/coffee facilities in the cabin are always welcome. We never used the main dining room and opted for the buffet each day. In comparison to other cruises we have done previously, (RCI, Princess, P&O), we found that the standard and variety of food was lacking. Not really bad, just not up to the same standard as the others. We don't drink a great deal so never bothered with the alchohol drinks packages, although I thought that they represented good value for money. Daily activities didn't impress too much. Any quizes were only 10 or 12 questions and seemed to be over really quick, except for the multi-lingual ones, where more time was spent on the translations than anything else. In the L'amitista lounge, we saw the Irish comedian. I am 56 years old and substantially younger than any of his 'jokes'. I didn't even break into a smile, and I usually laugh at anything. We saw 3 shows in the theatre; Adams family, Sophisticats, and the Paul McCartney tribute. The shows were ok, quite varied with use of acrobats etc., but seemed a little short in duration. What was better was the entertainments team that were clowning around prior to the show starting. The Paul McCartney tribute was quite good, but clearly not to everyone's taste as a number of passengers left the theatre during the performance. We didn't travel with children, but the facilities for kids seemed excellent. Definitely a good choice for those with young families. There did appear to be a lack of staff in the bars and the service was painfully slow at times. The party atmosphere in the Tiger bar was great, but the live band made even the most upbeat song sound depressing. Itinerary was good, although we didn't care much for Le Havre. Length of time in the ports was excellent, tours seemed a little expensive though. We done our own thing in some ports. We did notice some less than desirable manners from a certain nationality, and with that and the time taken for language translations, the multi-national mix didn't work that well for us. Would we travel with MSC again?, well, never say never, but the price and itinerary would have to be exceptional. Read Less

We had never been on a cruise so had no idea what to expect. From the moment we arrived in the car park the service was exceptional. Our luggage was taken as soon as we opened the boot!!! The embarcation was seamless and fairly quick and we were in our cabin in no time. For the whole 2 weeks the service was perfect. The staff are so friendly and helpful and our cabin was spotlessly cleaned twice a day. The food was very good and the choice to eat in the restaurant or the buffet worked very well for us. The waiters were charming and very efficient and considering how busy they were gave a very personal service. The pool areas were nice just a little busy on sea days. I think there should be a rule that sunbeds arnt taken with a book or towel then not used. A little frustrating when you have nowhere to sit. Loved the trips. We booked a canal trip and visit to a palace in st Petersburg and was well worth doing. We also went to Berlin but I have to say that the 3 hours each way on the coach and the 9am to 9.30pm was a bit too much and only 2 hours in Berlin to walk about although the guides were very informative and took great care of us throughout. The entertainment was varied and understandably cant please everyone all of the time but very good over all and a lovely theatre too. We were very impressed with the care taken when visiting places as it was very hot every day and we were given cold flannels and water on embarking back to the ship. We will definitely be cruising with Celebrity again Read Less

We chose to disembark from amsterdam because its inexpensive to fly there from most places in the world, and amsterdam itself is such a beautiful city to visit. the crew staff in general are extremely helpful and friendly, it really gave a good general feeling to chit chat and have a good relationship with the crew members. The only unfriendly ones are security staff, they have obviously not been told to have courteous or welcoming behavior. This feeling was mutual for everyone else on ship as well. The fact that we had to pay an extra fee of about 400 dollars/ per person, to get soft drinks and water during time on the ship was one of the companies sneaky ways of squeezing some more cash out of you. among other extra charges such as the gratuity charge every day per guest. The food options and timings were pretty good, there was a good range of different and same breakfast options everyday, same for lunch, and the dinner always had 2-3 new dishes everyday, which was great. The fact that we aren't allowed to explore in St. Petersberg without a visa to Russia was a huge pain, especially since it is the port where we are at for longest time ( 2 Days) . You are not allowed to explore St. Petersberg unless you are part of a shore excursion and you must stay with the group, unless of course you were prepared with a visa to Russia of course. Read Less

we chose this cruise because it went from southampton to which we could drive and we qualified for free parking, also there was only stop on the itinerary that we has visited before. the ship also looked very good. the ship was very comfortable plenty of seating areas and in general the staff were very helpful. that is the best i can say. the cabin steward was not one of the best. the food in the buffet had plenty of selection it was just badly cooked and in general tasteless. the dining room in the evening was a complete disaster. the staff were not well trained in table service and to plonk a large bottle of water on the table was a no no...the menu's were awful and badly cooked, i suspect the problem is cheap buying and bad kitchen abilities. hard to believe the man in charge of the restaurants is british. we did complain every evening, but no changes were made. the entertainment was abismal. they need to invest in professional entertainers and pay them accordingly. we went twice to the theatre which is beautiful and left early each time. the tanoid system is constant and because there are people getting on and off at every stop there is the safety drill at every port and announcedc as it everything was in five langues, by the end i felt we were constantly in a train station or an airport. this seriously cannot be d3scribed as a cruise, it is a hop on hop off ferry around europe. needless to say we returned feeling the need for a holiday...the charges for shuttles was outrageous considering the distances... As this was my first cruise I was really let down by the poor facilities for disabled people . I’m an amputee and there was no help getting on or off the expensive shuttle buses none of them had a lift for the wheelchair so I had to climb the stairs of the buses really disturbing , also being lifted in the air by the staff to get on and off the ship because some had stairs this really upset me , the only memorable bits were the Scottish couples we spent our days laughing with and the staff onboard could not have done more for us before booking I’d recommend checking access first as this is very important if you have a disability, I may add that the ship was beautiful and it’s just a shame my first experience was so bad but having nothing to compare this was very difficult Read Less

This was my 4th cruise on the Indy, I booked it for my sister and I, as a 5 day taster for her as she had never cruised RC, (she is a P & O girl). Her initial reaction was WOW, and she loved the layout and activities onboard. She told me she would definitely book her next criuse on RC with her husband in August. Unfortunately, this was short lived when it came to queueing for meals. No matter what time we went to eat, there were always queues, something I have never experienced on this ship previously, and I explained this to my sister. There were also queues getting back on board from port. Unfortunately, the food was not as nice as before, mostly cold and tastless on occasions. Apart from this, we were happy with our refurbed balcony state room and all the staff were (as always) extremely friendly and helpful. The refurb is brilliant, but considering there are an extra 400 staterooms, the main dining room is still the same size, so unless this is extended, I feel there will always be an issue with queueing, which is a shame, because it is such a lovely ship, with so much to do onboard. Cruising with friends and family.6 in the party all adults. Had a great time . the weather was great , we was round the pool area on sea days . Very comfortable , great laughs from Daniels entertainment . Of the headliner shows Bobby Davro and Jack Pack and Mick miller were excellent shows. Ricci Jay was rubbish . All staff were so helpful and always smiling . The room was cleaned twice a day , and towels changed. Very good service . The food was wonderful in all the resturants , especially in sapphire evening dining. All waiters were great. We all liked a drink and the bar service was fantastic in all the bars .the waiters were so quick with the drinks . Smoking room was a godsend for me aswell . Karaoke was a bit of a let down , not enough songs to choose from and was only on once for the adults, but daniel was a great host. I wasn't happy paying 52 dollar to get to Bruges that was a bit expensive , and went on the 8am bus and when we got there nothing was open till 10am , very disappointing . Bruges itself was beautiful. Overall a great holiday . Read Less

Our third cruise aboard a member of the RCI fleet this, we think, proved to be the best so far. Although Hamburg, Oslo and Bruges don't perhaps have the tropical appeal of our earlier voyage on Splendour, this itinerary, with a day at sea in between each port of call proved both very interesting and delightfully relaxing. Check-in at Southampton was busy but smooth and our cabin up to the usual high standards. The ship looked great and the facilities on board were excellent and accesable even on this sell-out, half-term voyage. The food in both the Windjammer and Sapphire dining room was excellent and, of course plentiful. The service was prompt, polite and friendly and, as we have learned over the years, we were glad we had pre-booked a drinks package so we could have as much or as little as we wanted. Nice to see the freshly squeezed orange juice is now included in the drinks package as opposed to the add-on it has been in the past. The entertainment was of a high standard in all venues and there was always plenty going on for the party animals on board. Our one slight niggle was the level of the piped music played in the Sky Bar which was just a little too loud for those seeking a quiet corner during the day to chat or chill. I'm not saying there shouldn't be any background music but this was not really in the background but dominated the room to such an extent that my wife and I left to find somewhere else on one occasion. A minor niggle but one that is probably worth resolving. Overall we had a wonderful week and returned to Southampton rested and revitalised. We will be back on board the RCI fleet soon! Read Less

Our dinner sitting was 6.15pm. My husband's parents were also on the same cruise but had an 8.30pm sitting. We were advised to ask at the restaurant if they could change to earlier so we could dine together. The 1st and 2nd night the matre dee said no but when we offered him a £20 note on the 3rd evening suddenly a table was available and according to the other 2 people already at the table these seats had been empty both previous nights that we'd asked. Amazing what a tip can do!! Entertainment was dire. Pretty much like a seaside resort with average dancers, singers, comedians etc. Thouroughly enjoyed the food and choice of restaurants. Cabin was good sized and clean but disappointed that we only saw our cabin steward once on the day we arrived and not at all the rest of the cruise. Plenty of sunbeds and seating round the outside deck areas. Read Less
