Having read quite a few poor reviews of Arcadia, we approached her with some misgivings, but an open mind. We were very pleased and surprised with what we found. She has massive open decks on Lido Deck with a lovely Prom Deck that you can sit on and not be bothered by people jogging or walking. It's wide enough for that. Our cabin was an inside twin in a Queen Config. It wasn't large, but perfectly adequate. Cases all went under the bed. Checkin was simple, we arrived at 1.pm and were on board having lunch at 2.30. That was from driving in. The entertainment on this cruise was truly excellent including the Headliners, Brian Conley etc. Only one very poor comedian spoilt an excellent run, but that didn't matter. Service and food were both excellent. We dined every night in the Meridian and didn't feel it was necessary to try either Arcadian Rhodes or the Orchid. Neither did any of our table for 8. I would definitely sail on Arcadia again. this cruise was truly a delight and the sail down the St Lawrence Seaway is a must, even if it was deja vue for me as I last did in 1969 when I emigrated. The only thing that was upsetting for me on this cruise was 1 couple, who ( audibly ) made it clear to everyone within earshot that everything was ( insert rude words here ) not up to the standards of The Queen Mary 2. If Carnival wanted all of their ships like the Queens, they would brand them as such, and if people like this like the Cunard ships so much, why are they on this cruise in the first place. A lot of people are complaining about falling standards and budget cuts, well in my opinion they are doing the same thing as P&O and a lot of other cruise lines by booking cruises like this in the first place, if they were not budget cutting themselves they could quite easily have booked a cruise with a similar itinerary on a more expensive cruise line. Leon De Se Croix and the entire entertainments team and the Headliners were amazing, always on hand for fun ad enjoyment, and were always willing to spend time getting to know the passengers. All staff that I encountered were polite, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I only drink draft coke, and in certain places on ship this is not to hand, however on several occasions, the waiters have gone out of their way for me, and went to the other side of the ship to get a draft coke for me to have with my dinner. Food was excellent, Georgina in the Belvedere restaurant was always friendly, and the food their was fantastic. I only had one complaint down in the Meridian restaurant, and this was not with the way it was cooked but the product itself, and they replaced it for me with no questions asked. I think some people complain far to quickly, and should try and allow them to resolve the issue first, which in all instances I have experienced, they do straight away. Maybe it is how we as customers handle the situation, going in all guns blazing does not get good results !!! Everywhere on the ship was clean and tidy, there was scheduled maintenance on board at the Aquarius Bar Deck 9 & 10 aft, and it shows they are still keeping the standards high. Maintenance is inevitable, and not all can be carried out at once !! The room was fantastic, and our cabin steward was very attentive. The casino staff were also fantastic and showed me how to play roulette, and I walked away with more than I started with, so this was a big bonus :) I would be very happy to go on Arcadia again, and I aim to work my way through the P&O Fleet. We did our first p&o cruise in July to the baltics, cruised lots of times and been to baltics before, had heard good and bad re arcadia but went with open mind. Embarkation was quick and efficient, but it was almost 3pm when we got there having travelled by coach with intercruise. Cabin was ready. We had balcony cabin, it was clean and spacious, we had chosen cabin number so no surprises. Welcomed by cabin steward. He quickly brought extra hangers I asked for and ice every day as we requested. Nice touch was atlas and binoculars in cabin. Bed was very comfortable. The ship itself is well laid out and very clean with some very nice features. We were on freedom dining as we had requested and as we like to dine alone we asked for table for 2 each evening and got it, sometimes we had to wait a little and were given a pager. Which was good system.Food on the whole was good and waiters on whole good, apart from our first night which was poor we waited a very long time between courses and seemed to be in therefor an age. On the second night the waiter was fabulous very good and attentive to detail he was very pleasant and friendly. We only managed to get his table once more on the cruise which was a shame. As I say service was a little hit and miss, one day my husband had order fish, he was served his meal but there was no fish on it, this was after there being no cutlery on the table, and then not being served coffee. So we experience both sides. But on the whole happy with everything. Buffet restaurant is were we ate breakfast and a couple of lunches until we discovered the pool grill, this was excellent the chef in there was superb, he served up lovely meals with care and always a smile. Highly recommend and big thank you to him. We never used room service so can't comment. We didn't use speciality restaurants either. We were really looking forward to the entertainment on po but have to say we were disappointed. The guest artists were very good and we enjoyed, but headliners were underused and offered little in the shows all very samish. Our biggest surprise was the amount of quizzes that went on morning, noon afternoon, pre dinner after dinner, even the groups mentioned the amount of quizzes. We did like to listen to groups, especially inspiration. There was a Fab evening out on deck on 2nd August with perfect weather, best nights entertInment of cruise. On other ships we have been on there has always been live music on deck during day, especially on sailaways but not on this ship. The DJ was waste he used to out same tape on and disappear. The ports of call were all good, although we had done them before, we managed to see different things, we had never been to Skagen before, what a lovely place it was. We booked two trips in STP first was great well organised and fantastic guide. The second one was chaotic. Guides falling out with each other, little organisation, but made us smile as was so unprofessional. The captain was a lovely man, informative, friendly and interesting. We had absolutely beautiful weather the whole cruise and enjoyed having the balcony. Disembarkation was quick and efficient. Well done PO. The return coach journey was dreadful. Intercruise let us down, there had been extra van for the luggage going down so logic would dictate that one would be needed for return home but they didn't send one, we sat on coach from 8.45 till 9.45 felt sorry for driver as he could not get luggage in. He had been told to put on another coach and a van would meet up with him. We made a stop for lunch for 50 mins driver told us we would stop again until birch wood. Then he pulled in at keele he Apoligised and said he had been told he had to wait there for 20mins we were there nearly hour, we were due back at 4pm. Absolutely no chance we got of the coach a stop before our pick up stop as we had had enough by that time it was 5pm been on coach all day. I have written to coach company they haven't had decency to reply. We had a lovely holiday felt relaxed and refreshed until the journey home which was a pity. We would cruise with P&O again, oh and by the way, it certainly is not a care home. Mixed ages from 18 to 90. Read Less

we were on this ship last year and had a good time all round, food, staff, entertainment etc.  we could not be leave we were on the same ship this time.  Dreadful place to arrive in, like a shed.  No signs leading you to your ship. One lane only to the shed where you parked, disabled people really struggling, have never in 20 years of cruising with PO seen any thing like it . Cabin clean and very friendly cabin girl. Toilet problems every day all along our part of the deck, cabin toilet overflowed all over bathroom floor, no one came to clean the floor, even after it was reported. Food was cold, overcooked or undercooked, and rushed to a point of rudeness in the main restaurant, hardly any choices, drab and tasteless, so we went to restaurant on top of ship, in only to get some vegetable's, again it was not good, but far better then main restaurant. The entertainment worst we have ever known, Headliners are always so good, complete disappointment, 2 of the male singers could not sing a note, and the whole 18 days became very boring, we always looked forward to a show etc at night, never had so many early nights in my life. Cabin entertainment was also very bad. People were coughing all over the ship, which was very worrying, I have now found out this is very common on this ship, and known for the Arcadia cabin cough, (charming) 2 days after we returned from the cruise mu husband wad dreadfully ill, and became critical, emergency doctors, and ambulance. He had Legionaries decease and pneumonia, lost a stone and 6lbs in 10 days. We have written to PO twice to inform them what has happened, in the hope that if there was some thing wrong in our cabin they could check it out, so no body else got it. We have received no phone calls from them, no letters, and no response at all. We have cruised with them for over 20 years, and can not be leave there lack of response to this very serious matter. Shame on you PO, and you should look at the dreadful reports you are getting on this ship, I wish we had read them before we booked. Can not tell you how unhappy and extremely disappointed we are.   Read Less

My mum and dad and,my husband and I,sailed on January 6th 2015,on the first leg of the world cruise,southampton to san Francisco, which ended in the death of my mother,in san Francisco. The ship was turned around the same day as she docked from the xmas cruise,our cabin had dust and fluff on the top of the wardrobe doors,my mums cabin had numerous ships crossword papers stuffed in the top of the dividing wall of the bathroom,our balconys were spotted with old paint drops , the glass, and floor needed a good scrub with a brush. The two swimming pools were emptied simutanously, because they had painted them with the wrong paint ,and passengers were getting paint on them,one sauna was out of action,the whrirlpools didn't work,the one on the aft deck was leaking and some of the floor was all spongy to walk on.Some of the waiters could not totally understand your order and I saw one waiter hiding near the funnels grill,out of the way from passengers ,looking at least three times at his watch,he stood there about 10 mins,another waiter was in a dream and didn't even know where to take the dirty trays, while another waiter served my meal by crossing over me,and on the wrong side.It was eveident there was new and totally inexperienced waiters being trained along side the experienced. Within a few days passengers began to have a barking cough,which rampaged the ship,we all caught it and felt so ill we stayed in our cabins , our appetite went and the warmer we got the worse it got.Our aircon didn't work properly on A deck,it was so hot up there compared to one deck down,we had the smell of food constantly wafting around our corridor. All these things were brought to the attention of the staff, excuses and untruths were relayed to us. The day before cabo san lucas ,my mother was taken to the medical centre,carged over £2000,for oxygen and anibiotics.and removed from the ship the next day,taken to a private hospital,and told by the ship we would have someone to take care of us,well, that's another story,after much stress and trauma of being in a first time port ,and lots of money we got back to the ship in san Francisco,but had no hotel or flights ,because the ship had cancelled them and offered no help to reinstate,saying they were to busy getting new passengers on.Had to pay for hotel stay,and own flights home,my mother suddenly died in that hotel room,that night.With no help from the ship,P&O, or the port agent, the stress and worry caused by the lack of care was responsible for this. Did you Know there is no regulation body to oversee,the cruise ship industry,they are charging what they they can getaway with and doing what exactly what they want to do ,knowing they can, with no questions asked, or authoritive bodies to answer too. Never will I sail with them again and will be cancelling next years cruise also,in fact I thing the cruise industry has got so big, and interested only in taking as much money of you as they can,i doubt wether we will cruise ever again,having had first hand experience when things go wrong,and don't expect your insurance company to be there either,they go through a system of paper work and anylisis to see if they are liable ,before you get any help,which is time ,emails to the uk doctor,time differences to take into account,etc,and on it goes. Arcadia,was the worst ship I have sailed in,and if you are sensitive to sea movement, she is not the ship for you,as she rolls from side to side,at the onset of swell. Old people beware,they wont look after you,you will need a lot of money to pay out first before you get any back off the insurance,even if you do,and you will find you could be in a strange place should you take ill and off load you in a port.Which seems to be the priority of the medical centre,could not get rid of my mother,and another passenger at the same time,fast enough. Fifty years my parents had cruised ,back to the days of Canberra,and this is how it ended. Read Less

We enjoyed a fabulous cruise around the Baltic on the Arcadia. This was my thrid cruise having not been on one for several years but prior cruises had been on the Oriana. The Arcadia is a lovely ship, it did take me a little while to rememeber where everything was but as most places to go (other than the cabins) are located on decks 2,3 or 9 I got to grips with it relatively quickly. I do though seem to remember that the layout on the Oriana was better but that may have been a figment of my imagination. The first night we were all invited to a sail away reception on one of the upper decks. Like another reviewer on here we were under the impression that it was a free glass of Champagne (I'm sure that's what we heard on the tannoy) but when we got up there we were told that we had to pay for the drinks. I'm not sure if this was a mistake by the person who announced the reception of whether this happens regularly but it's worth listening out for on future cruises. The service on the cruise from all the staff was second to none, our cabin steward was a lovely lady who always gave us a warm welcome whenever we saw her and kept our cabin pristine. The restaurant staff in the Miridien were also excellent and so too was everyone else that we encountered throughout the cruise. Whenever you sit down somewhere, a waiter will always ask if you want any drinks but I must say, I never ever felt hassled. The ports were great and we were ever so lucky with the weather. I think it only rained once whilst we were away and that was on a sea day. Temperatures were pretty much like here in London so early - mid 20s. All the places we visited were beautiful and I kept walking round thinking how clean the towns in Scandinavia are compared to the UK. No litter, relatively little traffic and a clear respect for the place they live in. We only went on an excursion in St Petersburg as you would need a visa otherwise and these were very well organised with fantastic tour guides. At the other ports were we didn't do an excursion but the shuttle buses that were laid on by P&O were very efficient and there was hardly any waiting around so everything went extremely smoothly and quickly. The entertainment by the Headliners Theatre group was excellent. They absolutely worked their butts off each night and presented a very slick enjoyable show each time they were on. They really became a highlight for our evenings and I must say that the standard is far better than it was ten years ago when I last cruised. Other entertainment was a brilliant violinist and a male singer who we enjoyed. Roy Walker I wasn't so keen on but being in my early 30's I don't think I was his target audience, however everyone around me were laughing their heads off so they all seemed to enjoy him. The entertainment gameshows like Blanekty Blank and Mr and Mrs were fun and a good laugh but there was a bit of a lack of daytime activities especially on sea days. I often found myself at a bit of a loose end as there wasn't really much to do. There were quizzes and other similar things on but they were a bit dreary and not particularly exciting. I would have liked to have done some classes (there was Pilates and Yoga but these had an extra fee which I didn't really think you should have to pay considering the price of the cruise) but other than those I didn't see much else. The entertainment is very much aimed at the older cruiser and as this made up probably 95% of the passenegers I completely understand why, however it would have been nice if there had been more variety in the daytime activities and I'm sure a lot of the older people would have surprised them by getting involved regardless. In the evening there would be music played in the Globe which is the Arcadia's kind of nightclub but it never really got past midnight. When I was on a cruise before I remember being in the Oriana's equivalent dancing till about 2am most nights but that didn't happen on here presumably because it was an adult only ship so you didn't get many younger people 20s/30s/40s. A quick word about tipping. Whilst I appreciate that there is this culture of tipping and that they have tried to make it less awkward by charging £5 per person per day onto your onboard account automatically, I would prefer it if the staff were paid better wages so that it wasn't on the owness of the passenger to make up the short fall. It can make your holiday a couple hundred pounds more expensive and the whole practice is a bit murky so I'd prefer to pay more upfront and avoid it altogether. All in all though it was a great cruise and was very well executed by everyone involved. I would definitely cruise again with P&O and I think the Norwegian Fjords look pretty good so that may have to be the next one. All the staff were fantastic, service amazing, beautiful ship and wonderful locations. Highly recommended! Read Less

This was my first cruise and after reading the recent reviews I was very concerned that I would not have enjoyed it . There was no need to worry as it was brilliant I could not fault this ship in anyway . The crew and staff were very helpful . our cabin steward Robert was very helpful and always had a smile . the cabin had plenty of room and the bed was very comfortable. the entertainment was brilliant they work very hard . they always say you either love cruising or hate it I have got the bug now will defentley be booking another one next year . well done p and o lovely ship arcadia. the service we received was excellent could not fault it in anyway. i liked the fact you could join in the activities if you wanted to or just relax which is what we done . we went on first sitting in the dinning room we had lots of choices of food 4 courses every night very filling . well done to all the chiefs it must be a hard job making all those meals . i don't now why people are so negative on here as p and o do there best to make sure you have a good holiday . cant wait till next year when I can go again so I will be busy saving for my next one. This was our first P&O cruise, and we had high expectations. Our cabin was good and activities, including entertainment and daytime talks, were all good to excellent. I particularly enjoyed the daily cricket matches run by Adam - excellent. Most staff were polite and helpful, but we found some Reception staff unhelpful and slow to get back to us. My biggest problem was with the food. I am vegetarian, and found the choices limited and often poorly presented. We opted for set dining in the Meridian Restaurant. We have enjoyed this set type if dining on other cruises and as one of our party had mobility issues restaurant service was preferable. Examples of food I was offered included a potato sandwich (not even any butter, and I was told it was a vegetable sandwich) and risotto that was a solid lump of rice with very little else added! I asked for brown bread sandwiches and was told brown bread is only used for fish! The meat eaters in my party were bored with very similar choices day after day, and some of the meat was very tough and unedible. We all found the pseudo language which regularly had to be interpreted for us very tiresome, and strange dishes and combinations of flavours odd and off putting. The lunchtime buffet in the Belvedere Restaurant was much better and had a wide variety of choices. Waiters and restaurant staff were helpful and always polite. It was such a shame they had to serve such poor quality food. One other thing that caused us problems - my husband has severe migraine if there are bright flashes, and he always finds the presence of photographers a challenge, particularly on formal nights. There must be other people who are affected by this? All in all, we enjoyed the cruise, but would have struggled with more than 3 weeks of the food! Labelling of the decks and venues on the ship is poor. Why does each deck have a name, a number and a letter? Simplify this P&O! I was really pleased that the pools had fresh water, as opposed to sea water on some other ships. The gym was well equipped but there were often no wipes or towels. The Palladium Theatre is excellent. The only concern we had was the obsessive use of the smoke machine, regardless of its relevance! One other thing that caused us problems - my husband has severe migraine if there are bright flashes, and he always finds the presence of photographers a challenge, particularly on formal nights. Fantastic ship. First time cruising for us, was a bit worried that it would be boring as we had our two boys aged 17 and 12 with us but actually it was brilliant. Embarkation was the quickest process ever, much better than going to the airport and dealing with all what goes on there. Basically we arrived at Southampton, followed the guys directing us to our spot, they took our suitcases, next time we saw them was when we arrived on the ship. Fantastic. So quick and no pressure all. When I first encountered the long skinny corridors of the ship I was unaware of how closed in I would feel, but that lasted all of about 5 minutes and then I just got used it. Our cabin was an inside cabin, much more spacious than I'd imagined and furnished in a clean and basic way, everything I needed for my 6 day stay. More than adequate. Our boys room was 2 doors down so perfect too. Can't really comment on the Kids Clubs as we didn't use them, although they seemed pretty busy with happy kids and parents picking up, our kids weren't interested in doing anything other than playing football, once they'd seen the pitch up above the 15th floor, basically they spent the whole holiday rooted to that place. Never would I have imagined they would love this cruise as much, considering they moan about everywhere we go on holiday, spoilt brats! (well, the teen does anyway). The ambience on the ship was nice and laid back, which I also hadn't expected, for some reason I thought it would all be a bit po-faced. Nothing further from the truth. The food was absolutely fantastic in The nice restaurants, a real dining experience, from the quality of the service from the sheer broad range of recipes. Even my children enjoyed wearing shirts and ties and getting dressed up for what was a lovely family occasion each evening, 5 or 6 courses, with just the right amount on your plate, not full up to the brim but just the perfect amount, beautifully thought out and presented dishes, everything I tasted was stunning. The waiters were cheerful and hospitable and couldn't have been more helpful. Personally, the food was one of the best things about the ship for me, although the buffet restaurants were good for the kids on a couple of nights (when they wanted to rush through dinner quickly), although adequate, I much preferred the longer sit down dining experience of the silver service restaurants. The entertainment covered every aspect, you could never be bored on that ship. From good old Tom O'Connor, (for those of you under 40, a stand up comic/tv presenter from back in the 70/80s) who put on a clean fun hour with a few chuckles, although clearly not to everyone's taste, some people in their forties (my age) were sat there looking like their face had been slapped, I only wish they'd have left the show and done us all a favour as I felt bad for Tom, although I expect he didn't really see too far into the audience after the front row. Bless him, he did well for a man of his age to stand there and recall all those gags & stories. Good lighthearted evening was had by my husband and I anyway! So much entertainment, think we saw The Beatles and Queen cover bands, which were ok, then there was the casino, which we didn't go any gambling in but looked fun if you wanted to partake. From sewing to ballroom dancing to wine clubs, there was a club to suit every person's fancy, even if you didn't want to do any of it you could just relax on the ship's sundeck or pool area and take it easy. We didn't go into the spa, even though we were given the hard sell, 'as you always are' but it worked out very expensive, which you kind of know anyway so we gave that a miss as it wasn't high on our priority list. The shore days were good, easy instructions were given to manoeuvre to and from the port, we enjoyed going to Bilbao and experiencing all the art installations at The Guggenheim , although our children were bored, uncultured urchins that they are, but easily remedied by sitting in the 'very' expensive cafe and eating while they waited for us! We visited Guernsey, La Rocha and Bilbao on port days which were all pleasant ways to spend a few hours mooching about with helpful instructions on what to do and how to get back without too much effort. Disembarkation was just as quick as embarkation. Good trip, thoroughtly enjoyed by all and would probably go again, although not to the same places and with a gap of a couple of years, as wouldn't want to spoil the memories. Read Less

We went on our first cruise with our daughter and their four children, we chose the Ventura thinking it was large so have plenty to do. We live in Southampton area so also a benefit. The embarkation went very smoothly although one lady attendant did tell my husband to keep moving when he stopped fo a breather when walking through the departure loung which we felt quite rude as he is a very poorly man. We had a four birth inside cabin and shared with our 16 and 17 year old grandsons which was fine apart from once the two ladders are in position for the top bunks you need to be a bit agile so that you can move under them to lower bunks, cabin was however fine. We found that the ship was too big for my husband as it was too much walking to get to the restaurants and theatres etc so we borrowed a wheel chair which was a big help however the lifts are very busy at meal times in the evening so you can wait with frustration as lifts come and go with no room for a wheelchair. The theatre was popular so you need to get there as soon as you have finished your meal, we were first sitting and found that we should leave the restaurant by 8 pm to get along to the theatre for the show. Sadly there was very little for our two grandsons to do so they were quite bored, Internet was too expensive so we didn't get that though it would have helped. It said on the itinerary football but when they went there adults were playing tennis in the area, I think this was due to there being only a handful of their age group on board. There were a few films on but for children only Jungle Book one afternoon and a Skywars film which they are not into. The two smaller children that our daughter had in their cabin had a wonderful holiday and really enjoyed the children's clubs every day however she was able to put them in at 2 pm for the afternoon but the adult film started at 1.30 so they couldn't even see that. The restaurant food was nice but repetitive on the Ventura though I'm told by avid cruisers that other ships had not been so repetitive. The free dinning food was all nice as well though finding a table for a large group can be tiring. Soft drinks for the children were expensive even if you buy a drinks card. All the staff on the ship were very attentive and couldn't do enough for you, cabins were kept clean and bedding changed if the smallest mark was seen on any of the bedding. Our daughter and the children have said they will never do another cruise however my husband and I are going to try one more on a smaller ship just to see how they compare. By the way they provide shuttle busses at every port but don't just jump on it and pay £4 each way as sometimes it's not far to walk. Read Less

We chose this cruise to coincide with my husbands birthday. From day one we had a fantastic time The cabin with balcony was spacious, the bathroom a bit cramped but adequate and everything cleaned to a high standard every day. Cabin staff ..especially Rona were always cheerful even though it was obvious they were under pressure to complete their work. We found waiting for the lifts a bit challenging but decided on day one that it would be easier to climb the stairs, luckily we are fit and able to do so We decided on freedom dining and it suited us well. The restaurant staff were always helpful . The food was good and we were not rushed. Talk around the dinner table ineviitably turned to 'how many cruises have you been on' this was bit tiresome but if people make cruising a full time hobby its to be expected Entertainmement was as good as some West end shows The drinks are reasonably priced with no surcharges. The daily charges for cabin services reasonable. In all a brilliant trip and will use P&O again Read Less

We have spent several Christmas holidays on cruises and have loved them! However, this was our first time with P and O and we were sadly disappointed with the whole ship. The Baltic itinerary was enjoyable and we were well prepared for bad weather which was surprisingly pleasant except for a serious storm which meant we could not get to Amsterdam. We didn't mind the enforced change of plan ( visited Le Havre instead - not too exciting!!) as this can happen on sea cruises. BUT - the ship was a total disappointment in so many ways. We paid extra to ensure our choice of dinner sitting but found ourselves on "Freedom" which we did not want and joined a queue of many others wishing to change their dining arrangement. We accepted a table on 1st sitting which proved FREEZING COLD - unbearably so as it was right by the back wall of the dining room. After several nights we were placed on a table with a delightful welcoming couple and at last we could dine without wearing our outdoor fleece jackets! The food offering was of very poor quality with few vegetables and strange menu options often not properly described ( 3 chocolate desserts on one night / a salad starter with no mention on the menu of the cold poached egg on the top).The Christmas dinner was a disgrace - 2 overcooked sprouts and a shrivelled sausage and stuffing garnish accompanied the turkey. The buffet restaurant was also poor and breakfast was equally disappointing. I had to ask for a banana and hunt for a natural yogurt . The only bread was off a cheap and nasty sliced loaf. I felt the ship had little festive atmosphere with little in the way of Christmas decorations in many public areas including bars. I was concerned about the staff, many of whom had a poor command of spoken English and seemed to have had little training for their roles. Our cabin steward did a very good job but some of the bar and buffet staff seemed demoralised and lacked any enthusiasm for their jobs which impacted on customer service and the general atmosphere. The evening entertainment options were OK,but the most fun we had on the entire cruise was the crew pantomime. There was no real party atmosphere and the late night dancing spot fell very flat. We have cruised with other companies but sadly. will probably not be going with P and O again unless there is a real change in attitude and evidence of an improvement in standards to match their competitors in a similar price range. A family group of 6 booked 5 cabins for a quick getaway. Embarkation at Sydney was so quick due to a wonderful staff member giving us priority boarding. That is when our troubles with passengers started. A very angry man tried to accuse the younger ones of cutting in but thanks to lovely staff we tried to ignore them. The ship was nice but I was not impressed with such low ceilings and missed having a central atrium where it was nice to sit and relax with a great coffee. I found the rooms were a decent size but my carpets were very badly stained. We had fantastic dinner companions but I was quite upset by the stares from other passengers constantly. I know some had originally thought we were entertainers (due to the young girls having very bright coloured hair). Most meals were wonderful, my family's only wish was for crispy bacon of course being British they only served boiled bacon. I did enjoy the shows but found no real entertainment during the day, probably due to it only being the short sector. Our biggest concerns were the rudeness of the British passengers and comments that were made to the girls even though they were dressed quite appropriately. Most staff were excellent the only problems were the usual with new staff starting as the same day as us. Bar staff fantastic, reception staff need to be made more aware of Australian rules and regulations( in regards to immigration) as we kept being given different info in regards to our disembarkation in Brisbane. Coming from Brisbane myself I felt embarrassed about where we had to dock but the staff there were amazing. Read Less

Family holiday with my elderly disabled mother, the Norwegian scenery was breath taking and beautiful, easily accessible and stress free with the wheelchair, embarking and disembarkation. The staff were polite and friendly most of the time, however we had high expectations of the food that we were told by pervious cruisers was out of this world, but the food was of adisappointing standard,very small portions, not always as expected or discribed on the menu, wafer thin sirloin steak, burnt beer battered cod,dry pan fried chicken, 1tiny lamb cutlet the size of a lolly pop, "for an adult male," bitterly dissapointed. The timing of the entertainment and dining were difficult to coordinate. Really enjoyed the sail aways and the lectures on the Vikings, but felt not much to do on sail days for the younger cruisers. The ship looked tired and old fashioned, I guess my expectations were to high,although other multiple cruisers in our party felt the need to apologise to us as they've never experienced a cruise of this average/ poor standard. First experience of cruising for more than 17 nights. This cruise was. 44 nights with 4 night stay in Sydney. The cruise was great. A few days of rough weather over bay of biscay (as expected). Sea sickness tablets worked a treat, There were two ports we had to abort because of bad weather: bay of islands and Tonga. This is something you have to expect when cruising which us beyond the control of the captain. Headliner shows always excellent and always generates a full house. Some of the other not always great. Lots of activities during the day to keep you busy during sea days. Spa very expensive. Gym facilities great and free. Food a little disappointing but plenty of it - you won't go hungry! We went on most excursions but a lot of the time you can do your own thing a lot cheaper. Highlights were: Alcatraze, Panama Canal, Pearl Harbour. We enjoyed all the ports on this cruise. Absolutely fab. Best ports San Francisco, Auckland and Sydney. Left luggage - a case on ship which we will collect in April when Arcadia returns to Southampton. We were concerned about the long haul flight for our return journey which turned out great. We flew with Singapore Airlines from Sydney to Singapore and then Singapore to Heathrow. Time just flew. Great current movies on flight, constant drinks and food/meals coming round. Would definitely fly again with them the same journey. 10 out of 10 flight. I think this length of cruise was enough for us but alot of other cruisers were staying on for the full 99 nights. If you are considering this cruise next year I would say go for it. Read Less

We'd not cruised for nearly 20 years, and this time had a (now) grown up 19 year old daughter and an 83 year old mother in tow. We chose the Baltic as I had Danish heritage and we wanted to go somewhere we'd not normally visit. We had connecting balcony cabins on E deck (E152/E156). The steward opened the balcony so we could share it, and we found the space and cabins really comfortable. Loved the food - mother had three course breakfast, lunch and dinner every day! We didn't need to go to the speciality restaurants, as we found the MDR excellent. We had a table for four near the stern with great views to starboard. The waiters (Peter, Lourenco and Sheila) were attentive and personable, and we got on really well with them. Mother, being less able these days, found the staff in the Belvedere buffet extremely helpful - they carried her tray to her table for her, and were excellent all round. The entertainment was really good - the Headliners' Bacharach and musical shows were great, the 'Two Guys One Piano' show was unique, funny and technically brilliant, and the opera singer was outstanding. Not so sure about the comedian, but I'm sure others enjoyed his routine. We went to the dance classes with Pamela and Peter - they were taxing but enjoyable. We were blessed with amazing weather throughout the cruise, and really enjoyed all the ports. We had P&O trips to St Petersburg, the beauty of which blew us away. Overall, despite the cost, we found the cruise excellent value for money and an overwhelmingly brilliant experience. We loved Arcadia - it's large but not 'too big', and we felt really comfortable. Only downside was the lack of daytime entertainment for our 19 year old. 'Knit and Natter' in the Crow's Nest, and 'Arthritis and Posture' talk are somewhat geared to the older crowd. We left feeling like we could do with two more weeks onboard and can't wait to cruise with P&O again. ...and you just have to do the journey into Stockholm! Read Less

We have always wanted to sail on Arcadia so for our 35th wedding anniversary that is what we decided to do. We chose this particular cruise because it was a discovery cruise with new destinations we had not visited before and we were not disappointed. Embarkation went well, straight through and onboard in under 10 minutes ( probably because we were the last coach to arrive having been held up waiting for 2 passengers). Our aft facing cabin was very comfortable and was kept nice and clean by our cabin steward Ajay. Our only complaint about the cabin was the grubby glass on the balcony, it was in need of a good scrubbing not just a wipe over. We found the service in the MDR to be very slow and miserable, when asked for a table for two on our second visiit (and last) we were taken to a table for four, when this was queried the waiter turned and walked away leaving us standing there like lemons. When he returned he took us to another table for four but said we could have it for two?? Yes we were confused as well! The buffet was not much better. Food was ok depending on what you had but not always hot. Thank goodness for The Ocean Grill! Yes you had to pay a service charge but the food and the service was amazing. The entertainment was good, the Headliners were the best we have seen and the comedian Fogwell Flax was brilliant! Disembarkation is another story, it was an absolute shambles. They crammed too many people into the Meridian dining room, no numbers given out and we were held there for 1 1/2 hours - not good!! Would I sail with P&O again - yes Would I sail on Arcadia again - no, she is not the best ship on the fleet by far Read Less

We tended to have 2 mini P&O cruises a year, 3-4 day breaks, sometimes to the same location.Over these last few years, these have been on the Arcadia.Whilst we have never had reason to complain about the ship or cabin, there is cause for concern in other areas.The cabin steward is always helpful,and the cabin maintained well. Where I feel the standards have dropped, is with the quality of the food & service. The food at all meal times, appear to be prepared on a tight budget, with a limited amout of choice over the period of cruise.The speciality eating venues, are regularly pushed, at very high premiums.I honestly feel the service was better, when you tipped the waiters at the end of the cruise.There is no insentive for them to provide exceptional service, as tips are already included. The entertainment is average, and passes the time away, drinks & wine prices increase year by year. the excusions barely provide value for money. We have cruised with P&O for over 8 years, we have to change. We had booked a 3 day break for June next year, but are prepared to lose the deposit & cancel. ; In the checkin area's before we boarded, we spoke to several first time cruisers, & we sang the praises of P&O. Special mention to Sam for port excursion talks- excellent and Albano our cabin steward who was excellent. Misty Blue trio very good and sail away parties enjoyable. Downside lack of dress code enforcement- on formal nights people seen in shorts, t shirts which spoils it for those making an effort. Quizzes every night in almost every bar- bad if you don’t like quizzes -crows nest should be a quiz free zone!! Too many smoking areas around the ship spoiling the walk around the promenade deck!!! Smoking rules not enforced especially round the pool in the Aquarius bar. Booked the Ocean Grill and Sindhu on a few occasions as we didn’t like queuing for food -menu limited and fish in Ocean Grill very dry- staff good though. Had to ask for more toiletries when ours ran out which is bad. Ship had so many leaks so buckets wer strewn around the deck -not very nice. Seemed to be too many passengers for the size of the ship- had to wait ages for lifts- ok for us but people with disabilities suffered. Sometimes couldn’t get into the theatre as people had been reserving seats early on.Lack of performances from Headliners. Guest speakers on the whole were very entertaining. Captain’s cocktail party was farcical -too many people in the Neptune bar to be enjoyable. I don’think we will travel with P and O again as we have travelled with Cunard before and although more expensive it is a little less like a holiday camp. Read Less

On a 20 day cruise thats a lot of time. One post missed so far with warning of changed itinerary to come Communication bad, yesterday found a message on return from day out to advise another day in port. With modern technology this could have been achieved by group email/ SMS. ship noticeably cleaner after infection control measures were taken to avoid potential norovirus outbreak. Food awful. Limited choice and poor culinary skills. It's truly a bad day when you are likely to return from a cruise lighter than you arrives onboard. Cabin and restaurant excellent. I can only conclude this is the reason many people are so loyal to them. In the present cruising climate they need a serious shakeup if they want to continue to make happy cruise memories. Read Less
