A scenic cruise is a real five star experience. It’s quite an investment, but you do get a quality experience. The crew are sensational, they were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The food was always fresh, beautifully presented and a wonderful variety at all meal times. I would strongly recommend it. The facilities & food are brilliant. Most of the tours were enjoyable and gave us a good glimpse of important attractions and local cultures. Nikola our cruise director was very professional and enthusiastic and always ensured all passengers were well informed of upcoming events, times and places to meet which resulted in smooth transition from ship to tour & back to the ship again... The water levels in the rivers were apparently problematic, but the captain & crew moved the ship along when needed to make sure we could get through ok which we are very thankful for. This cruise really was value for money and definitely will look at travelling with Scenic again in the future. Read Less

We had to change ships on the 10th day of a 14 day cruise. Scenic was repositioning the Jewel and the Pearl due to high water problems on a prior cruise. Our comments are based on our experience on the Jewel in the first 10 days. Our experiences on the Pearl were NOT as good. The crew and staff on the Jewel were very friendly, communicative, accomodating and fun to be with. They handled a passenger emergency in a very professional manner and all worked out in the end. The Captain was very visible and friendly. The excursions were good and informative. We wish that there was more free time at some of the stops. Entertainment was very enjoyable. Our cruise director, Jeff, was very helpful and informative. This was our second river cruise with Scenic. We have recommended Scenic cruises to family and friends. We enjoyed ourselves very much. We boarded the Scenic Jewel in Amsterdam for this 14 day itinerary. In each port, Scenic gives guests a choice from at least 2 excursions. First port was Antwerp, and we chose the excursion to Bruges. This town was quaint and interesting. Next stop was Veere, and we were quite impressed with the excursion to the Delta Works. We were treated to a "Dixie-land Band" after our Delta Works tour. In Arnhem, we found the Open Air Museum informative. In Maastricht we did a walking tour, then cruised the Maas River in the afternoon. When docked in Emmerich, the excursion to the Roman ruins of Xanten was awe-inspiring. Our next port was Koblenz, where we did a city tour. Then we headed down the Moselle River and delighted in the steep hills covered with vineyards and small towns along the way. First port on that river was Cochem, where we visited the fully-furnished Reichsburg Castle. We next briefly stopped at Traben-Trarbach to let the Electric-Bikers off the ship, as they were biking 15 miles to meet the ship in Bernkastel. While docked in Bernkastel, we took the excursion to Trier for an impressive city tour. We then headed back to the Rhine as quickly as possible as water levels were dropping. The ship diverted to Andernach until water levels rose enough we could enter the Rhine Gorge. The Rhine Gorge was dotted with hillside castles, impressive cathedrals, and riverfront towns. Gorgeous! Due to the delay from the low water, we had to skip our scheduled stop in Rudesheim. In Mannheim, we toured Heidelberg castle and the old town. The ship then docked in Rastatt, where guests toured Rastatt Palace and were entertained by a classical music concert. We docked next in Kehl, and took a city tour of Strasbourg and spent time in Le Petite France area. Next was Breisach, where we took coaches to the Black Forest. Unfortunately, it was windy that day, so we were unable to take the cable car gondolas to the top of the mountains. During our hike in the hills, we toured a farmhouse museum and sampled Black Forest cake. We disembarked in Basel. In addition to daytime excursions, we had 5 evenings where local musical entertainers came onboard. Overall, the excursion guides were top-notch, and Scenic arranged so only about 25 people were with each guide. We wore "Tailormade" devices, which were headsets to hear the guides. But these devices also serve as GPS locators, if you want to self-tour with the city maps they provided for each location. The food on the Jewel was excellent, with a wide variety of choices at each meal. All types of alcohol are included in Scenic's price, and with the well-stocked bar, drinks flowed generously. Regional red and while wines were offered at each meal. Service was prompt. The staff was always pleasant and welcoming. The electric-assist bikes make treks along the shore enjoyable. Also, while cruising, the "Tailormade" device clicks on to describe points of interest along the shore. Scenic also provided complimentary maps and a tour book of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers. The map showed landmarks and bridges, so it was easy to follow the ship's progress. The tour book detailed pertinent information about towns along the river. We had a butler to attend to our every need. Room service was complimentary. We were on the Sapphire deck, so included was one small bag of laundry per cabin. Those on the Diamond deck also had complimentary pressing services. We felt Scenic filled this 14 day trip with a satisfying blend of sightseeing and entertainment. There were 169 passengers onboard (majority being Australian & Canadian), and demographic was 60+. We met many lovely, outgoing, well-traveled people. Overall, Scenic really looked after their guests. I would not hesitate to cruise with this company again. Read Less

The dates suited and this particular cruise was suggested by the Travel Agent. We thought it would be a good idea to go on the cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam en route to Sweden where were going to a 90th birthday in the Arctic Circle where we hoped to arrived in a relaxed manner - and we certainly did. It was a wonderful way to begin a journey. Everything on the Scenic Jewel was way beyond expectations from the welcome on board, luggage handling, cabin service, tours, entertainment, food and drink, cleanliness and departure. ALL staff without exception were efficient, helpful, thoughtful, courteous and very good humoured. We met some delightful people with whom we had many laughs and many drinks and many wonderful meals. The land excursions were excellent though the listening devices could be improved. The ear pieces tended to fall out of your ear and the sound was often faint and/or broke up. It is difficult to say what the most memorable part of the trip was - it was all so different and interesting. Going through the locks was amazing; the scenery was charming in fact in many ways it often felt as though one were moving gently through a postcard. It was always delightful to go on shore and walk around such interesting and charming places which prior to the trip were essentially names in atlases or novels. Read Less

We wanted a 5 star experience with nothing to worry about and Scenic was recommended. I can't express what an amazing time we had on this River Cruise. From the minute we stepped aboard until we stepped off 8 days later, we were given the Royal treatment. The excursions are of top quality, from glass boat tours through the canals of Amsterdam to Castles, cathedrals and even a Baroque Concert. The food was excellent!! They do not skimp on anything, the wine and drinks are all of excellent quality and the selection of meals, cheese and desserts were fantastic! We were lucky enough to enjoy an 8 course meal with wine parings for each course! A true 6 star event!! The staff (on the Jewel) is the best we have ever experienced on any of our travels. They were fun, courteous, professional and never left you wanting for a thing! Special mention of Goran (butler), Sandy,(bartender) Nickola (cruise director) for making our holiday even better than we could have expected! The beds were so comfortable, the rooms were kept incredibly clean, with room care and full bar service twice a day! If you want a holiday that you don't need to worry about a thing and want to be treated like kings and queens, then Scenic is the only way to go! You won't regret it. Now to decide where our next Scenic River cruise will take us! Read Less

Very organized, they think of all the details. Glad we added a few extra days in Amsterdam through Scenic, prior to departure. We did a canal cruise in that time so after boarding the ship we could select the excursion to Volendam which gave us the opportunity to see some of the countryside including a windmill. Beautiful ship, very modern suites. The most comfie bed and pillows I've ever had, except at home! Being able to open the balcony window was a great perk to enjoy some fresh air. More than enough space for 2 people and their suitcases. The process to board and disembark was so well organized and fast, no endless waiting in line. The food was great, nice variety. Drinks were awesome, especially the local beers and wine. Very attentive staff. They seemed like they were actually enjoying the trip. Excursions were also well organized and well chosen, very interesting choices, it made it difficult to decide which to take. I only wish we had more time at each stop but then it wouldn't have been an eight day cruise! The special concert at Ratstatt Palace was absolutely amazing. If I do another river cruise I would definitely choose Scenic again. Read Less

Scenic appealed to us for its luxury, interesting itinerary and all-inclusive approach to travel and we had travelled with Seniic before. They delivered on all levels. Our Balcony Suite was compact - as you would expect on a river cruise - but really well designed so there was plenty of room in wardrobes and bathrooms and the bed was huge and really comfortable. This theme continued throughout the ship. The common areas were excellent and the staff were consistently superb - friendly, attentive, helpful and all with a good sense of humour especially Nenad, Milan KJ, and Goran. House keeping staff worked so tirelessly keeping our rooms well serviced. Gally staff worked very hard pumping out fabulous food with restaurant and front of house staff ( too many names to mention) delivering wonderful meals and service. Bar staff Sandy, Lobo an Milika were fantastic with what ever e wanted to drink. Front desk Vjeko, Milica & Martine friendly faces there to help. Trips ashore provided excellent variety and range of choice and all the excursions were excellent. A major highlight was the quality of the food and wine for every meal. Plenty of choice and a great size allowing you to easily taste four or five courses without feeling stuffed but some of us did over indulge. Entertainment onboard was fun and engaging. Laundry service was great and cheap compared to hotel stays and items returned most times same day. Out Cruise Director Taree was superb worked round the clock making sure our every need was met thank you to you and all the staff. Last bit not least the Captain and his crew for a safe and smooth sailing thank you. Trip paid in advanced and felt like a free holiday. Wow!! Read Less

Our travel agent had been on this cruise and rated it the best. Knowing that the one off payment covered everything once on board ship took out any stress about off shore excursions, tipping and different exchange rates. Only needed small amount of change for toilets in town. Free toilets were always available at organised tour events. The offshore excursions arranged by Scenic were varied and provided wonderful musical experiences from the different areas we visited. The Octoberfest and Sound of music lunch and show are exclusive to Scenic tours. Each outing was accompanied by an experienced guide giving extremely detailed information about the place we were visiting and the history going back to Roman times. Alexander our very experienced cruise director was always patient, cheerful, interesting and extremely well organised , Some of the crew expressed their multi talents by providing us with musical entertainment on our last night which was a real treat. Food, what can I say!' The meals were superb, fresh produce beautifully prepared, a culinary delight at each meal. Providing a shuttle bus in some cities was an unexpected bonus. I could not have asked for more. A wonderful, memorable experience Thank you Scenic. Read Less

We selected this cruise as we had excellent experience of Scenic before, and the itinerary matched our ideal places to see and the Scenic Enrich activities looked superb. We were not disappointed! Everything was well organised, embarkation, transfers, communication and service all spot on. The Scenic Enrich activities were the highlights, with a visit to a medieval castle and entertainment, the Sound of Music excursion to Salzburg, and the Palais Lichtenstein concert in Vienna absolutely outstanding. The food on board was excellent, with the special menus at Table La Rive and Portobellos truly outstanding. Minor issues like bar service during busy times wee quickly forgotten. Special mentions for Cruise Director Andreea, bar waiter Ana, and restaurant waiter Iwan, who all worked hard and multi-tasked enthusiastically. Andreea in particular led the cruise with enthusiasm and experise, communicated very well despite English not being her first language, and looked after the passengers who had health problems during the cruise. We wanted a true all-inclusive. All tips included, which means you didn't even need to tip the tour guide of the land excursions, nor was there an envelope waiting on your bed the last night with a plea for an extra tip for the ship staff. All excursions included, which means you didn't have to rush for the "best" shore excursion nor shop for best deals. It was all taken care of AND they also had extra, special excursions in the evening such as a meal in a medieval castle! All drinks included, which means not just wine and beer, but also all liquors, standard and top shelf. The staff was amazing! I cannot overstate how professional, yet friendly the staff was. They bent over backwards to meet your every desire. You really felt like they were there to serve you! And of course the route was beautiful and interesting. But you can take it on another cruise line and get the same view, but not the service! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the Scenic reputation, range of cruises and the many friends recommendations who had travelled with Scenic before. This cruise covered areas we had not seen before and covered an expansive range of tours which we felt would suit the requirements of my wife and I. All of the places we visited were very picturesque with excellent guides to show us around and impart interesting information. Some of these places we will definitely return to revisit for a bit longer as really this cruise just gives a taste. We also took up the option of a pre cruise stay in Paris and post cruise stay in Budapest, which was an added bonus for us. Just about everything you needed or wanted was covered in the cruise cost with no need to worry about extra money outlay. The whole crew on the Scenic Jewel from Captain and Cruise Director right through the full range are a credit to Scenic with nothing being too much trouble. All crew we engaged with were pleasant, knowledgeable, helpful and generally all had a great sense of humour. The food and drink choices and quality were superb with good on board entertainment making this a really enjoyable way to travel. We will most definitely be recommending this cruise and Scenic to anyone that will listen. Read Less

We are just back from the amazing experience of our lives to sail from Amsterdam to Budapest. Although the weather was overcast and cool it didn't take away from the experience. Our cabin was excellant and provided the comfort that we were expecting. The staff who took care of our room was so pleasant, always with a smile and a warm welcome. She couldn't do enought to make sure our needs were met. Dinning was alway kept to their high standards and staff more than willing to make sure our dinning experience was to our liking. The soups, salads were excellant and were the other choices of buffet. It was so great to experience foods from the regions we were in, quality was excellant! Beautiful array of wines to also be enjoyed with our meals. The Lounge and Bar, what amazing staff. No matter how busy they were, they always had a smile and wasted no time bring us our drink choices. They always maintain a clean enviorment. The entertainment was great . He had a nice voice and a good range of songs plus music to get us up and dance the night away! The cruise director was the BEST making sure the tours met everyone's needs. He was VERY knowledgable. My husband and I were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary, my birthday and our recent retirement. We wanted to do something special and we were not disappointed. From start to finish, the cruise was excellent. The ship was modern and spacious, the rooms very comfortable and the staff could not have been more welcoming, service oriented and professional. The attention to detail was what struck me. They thought of everything all the time. The captain and other staff would see us off and wish us a good excursion day and were always there to welcome us back and inquire about our day. Issues with water levels were encountered and they never missed a beat. We were offered alternatives when original plans had to be changed for reasons beyond their control and they bent over backwards to meet everyone's needs. I can't say enough about the staff. They were all so very pleasant no matter what their role on the ship, so much so that it felt like we were leaving friends and family at the end of the cruise. The food was phenomenal, from light snacks to gourmet meals. I would highly recommend Scenic to anyone looking for luxury all inclusive cruising. We would never cruise with anyone else. Read Less

Scenic cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest aboard the Scenic Jewel. Would rate this with 6 stars if possible. The staff was amazing--always accommodating and wanting to make your experience outstanding. Our Cruise Director Kurt could not have been better handling all the small details (like doctor visits, etc), keeping everyone informed with his port talk (which were not only informative but done with humor). The selection of on board entertainment was terrific, the food outstanding. Cannot say enough about how wonderful the staff was. At the end of the cruise they almost felt like family. On many stops we would have a selection of options from city tours, Scenic Free Choice, walking around by ourselves. The Taylor Devices would enable us to explore and the GPS would guide us to local attractions. The city tour guides were excellent, the off ship lunches and dinners were outstanding. We would definitely take another Scenic tour again! Read Less

We are just back from our Amsterdam to Budapest cruise. It was awesome. I read here about the food choices were limited....well I beg to differ. The choices were fine. Usually 3 main choices as well as another standard 3 main choices. There were also choices with the appertisers, soups and deserts and the quality was excellent. The cabin was a good size for a ship of its size. We were in a Royal suite but I didn't hear anyone complaining about any of their rooms. As has been stated before you dont tent to spend much time in your rooms anyway. The demographic was as expected. Most were aged in their sixties and the ages ranged from late 40's to late 70's but age didn't seem to be a problem when it came time to party. The were a mix of nationalities. Still mostly Australian ( about 45%) with the Canadians close behind with the rest made up of Americans, Brits, Kiwis and a couple from Barbados The daily tours were many and varied or you could go out on your own. The staff were excellent they always knew what drink you wanted and were very attentive We felt special from the airport pickup till the airport drop off. This was our first ever cruise - we normally "do our own thing" - so spending so much money was difficult to come to terms with. We had been travelling for 2 weeks prior and arrived in Amsterdam the same day as we embarked the cruise, thus it was great to unpack knowing we didn't have to see our cases again for 15 days. There are many areas one could sit comfortably - whether on deck in the sun or in a lounge area. Staff were always on hand to provide drinks but were never over bearing. From the outset it was clear this is a well oiled machine - professional from the top down - and yet always friendly and helpful. Kurt as the tour director had a 24/7 job and yet always showed enthusiasm and great humour. I'm sure our experience would have been lesser without his skill. The food was plentiful and catered for every taste; the wait staff although busy always had a smile and a chat. Onboard entertainment was varied; Guieseppie played piano and sang (although not always on key), local musicians and dances, informative talks and demonstrations. Excursions on shore were well organised with choices well documented in advance and great without exception. My personal highlight was the concert in the Arsenal in Vienna - exceptional venue with professional musicians and singers - wonderful. Of course I could rave about the beauty of the Rhine Valley, the amazing canal linking the Rhine to The Danube, Melk Abbey and the fun in Durnstein - but the icing on the cake was waking up in Budapest, drawing the curtains and seeing the sun rise behind the magnificent Parliament building. We may be converts to cruising after all. Read Less

Everything about this cruise was just fabulous, from the food to the entertainment. You could do as little or as much depending how you felt. The food was beautiful & the soups were to die for.The bar service was first class with the most cheerful bar staff you could wish for, with special thanks to Eddie,Martina & Rosita. All the staff from the the Captain all the way down were just fantastic.A special mention for Kurt who worked so tirelessly from morning till night to make sure that everyone had a holiday to remember. At night there was entertainment with the resident pianist who played and sang every night plus there was local singers and dancers from some of the countries that we stopped off at.We went through some of the most breathtaking country scenes on the Rhine and the Danube with stops at some of the most beautiful cities and towns,Melk being one of my favorite places. With so many people staying in such a small place,it only takes one person to be ill and it goes through the ship. This happened while we were on board.just like any transport that has air conditioning,it goes from cabin to cabin. That is the only complaint that i could find with this holiday, they need to improve on the quality of air being circulated from room to room. This is not just a scenic problem but every company that uses recycled air.All in all, with being sick on board,it turned a absolutely fantastic holiday into a fantastic holiday.Would not stop me from going again. From myself and my wife,we would like to thank every single member of staff that catered for our every need. After looking at several river cruise companies, we chose Scenic because everything was included- drinks, mini bar, excursions, tips. The spaceship was beautiful and well maintained. Our balcony suite was very good. The clever window that could be raised and lowered meant full use could be made of the balcony whatever the weather. We liked the spacious bathroom with walk in shower, luxurious toiletries and soft bathrobes. The journey was straightforward. The journey by Eurostar and Thalys was straightforward. Meals were offered at each stage and we were met at the station and driven to the ship in a private taxi. The meals were first-class with plenty of choice. The food and wines were tailored to the area we were travelling through. The executive chef came to the port talk each evening to talk about dinner. The waiting staff could not have been more helpful. This was true of all the staff. One thing we particularly noticed was that all the staff from the captain downwards were willing to help each other out when needed. The on board entertainment was varied and of a high standard. The views were stunning. The offer of a glass of local wine as we sailed through the Rhine Gorge was most welcome. The ports were interesting and the guides were very knowledgeable. One aspect several of us thought could be improved was the Sundowner at the Alter Kloster. It would have been much better to have had this event on the sun deck. We did not realise that Scenic was an Australian company and were surprised that most of the guests were Australian. This did not detract from the cruise in any way because they were very friendly, if reluctant to follow the dress code. We would certainly consider using Scenic again. Read Less

Having been on several ocean cruises this was our first river cruise and it outstripped other cruising by a mile. Every single aspect was superb. The staff were amazing, every single person seem absolutely determined that we should have the perfect experience, the service was the best I've experienced. Embarkation and disembarkation was handled with great efficiency and comfort, excellent taxi services arranged to take us to our next destination. The food was to die for, and I loved the way the executive chef (George), would come out every night before dinner and give us a synopsis of what we were about to eat. Great the way he would go to the local markets every day to ensure the produce was the freshest and best. Fabulous the way everything was inclusive, especially having all the shore excursions paid for. We had some wonderful 'whole of ship' experiences; being taken to Marksberg castle for a medieval dinner was a high point, as was a private concert at the Lichtenstein Palace in Vienna. A special mention of the cruise director Hunor Nagy, for whom nothing was too much trouble. He went to the trouble of organising a special excursion to the Spanish Riding School for a small group of us who were disappointed to find we were not there on a day when there was a performance. There were several occasions when local entertainers were brought on board, and they were of an extremely high calibre, my favourite being the Hungarian dancers in Budapest. My husband and I chose to go with Scenic because it was recommended by a friend. Otherwise, we never would have heard of it. It's an Australian-based company and they don't marked much in the USA. We flew into Amsterdam a couple days early so we could explore the city. We rented an apartment through VRBO, which I highly recommend. Once we embarked onto the ship, we unpacked ONCE for two weeks of fun. The ship was spotlessly clean at all times and the service was always wonderful. The food...oh brother, so good and way too much of it. I recommend that you lose an additional 10 pounds so you can eat your way back to normal. There were most Aussies on the boat, which was great because they're loads of fun. The boat only held 169 passengers so it was very intimate. We got to know the bartenders right away and everyone knew what our preferred drink was by the second day. Scenic is great because EVERYTHING is included: booze, tipping, shore excursions, work out room (not that I used it), electric bikes, and even 2.2 kg of laundry after about 5 days. (Tip, don't do laundry before that because that does cost money. Just bring enough clothes.) Hair and massage are extra, but that's it. The rest is included. The cabins were cleaned every morning and the sheets were changed twice a week. All staff was GREAT! Most were from Serbia, Croatia, and that area. Our cruise director, Kurt, was phenomenal. He was hyper organized and funny. This guy knew his stuff. I would have liked a little more free time in some of the shore excursions, but you got enough of a taste of everything and it's hard to make everyone perfectly happy, though they did a pretty good job!! They also have these things called TaylorMade, which are GPS/listening devices so when you go on a guided tour, and there are MANY, you don't have any trouble hearing the guides tell you all of the interesting facts about all of the places you get to see. It also has another nice feature in which it will BING at you if you come across a point of interest while sailing down the river. You can't throw a rock down some portions of the Rhine without hitting a castle, so it's nice to know a little history about each one of them. My husband and I are planning to take another Scenic cruise in the next couple of year. They're not cheap, so save your money. Not to bash any other cruise lines, but I learned something interesting while on this cruise. Viking has 60 river cruise ships on those rivers. They can't train captains fast enough so they're promoting people from first mate to captain before they've really had enough experience to drive one of these beasts. There were TWO Viking "crashes" in the two weeks we were sailing. Scenic has fewer boats and captains with more experience. I don't know anything about other ship lines, but I would say to read up on them so you are SAFE. Also USE THE ANITBACTERIAL GOO provided before every meal. There a lot of people and a lot of germs. There were NO kids on this boat. I think I was the second youngest, at 52. It's a chill atmosphere, not a party cruise to Mexico. I can highly recommend this cruise with Scenic. Read Less

You could not fault the staff from the friendly involved Captain to the housemaids. All were exceptionally friendly and it gave the atmosphere of one big happy family - all committed to making our cruise perfect. The food was unbelievable and I can't believe other reports that talked about pork fillets and schnitzels. the a la carte menu at dinner catered to most tastes and they offered other options if it didn't suit. The food was cooked to perfection and 160 dinners were delivered promptly and with great attitude from the staff.Nothing was too much trouble and the wine flowed as did any other drink that you requested. Coffee and tea were also brought to the table on request. Breakfast was buffet or cooked as you waited and there were several options for lunch. The space of the deluxe suites was quite good for a river boat and the our director Kurt was organised, talented and super obliging. The night time entertainment was there for all to enjoy. Disappointed only in the fact that most moorings were not in a town and most excursions had to be accessed by a bus trip with several early starts. Scenic needs to make guests aware of this before booking. Read Less
