Scenic cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest aboard the Scenic Jewel. Would rate this with 6 stars if possible. The staff was amazing--always accommodating and wanting to make your experience outstanding. Our Cruise Director Kurt could not have been better handling all the small details (like doctor visits, etc), keeping everyone informed with his port talk (which were not only informative but done with humor). The selection of on board entertainment was terrific, the food outstanding. Cannot say enough about how wonderful the staff was. At the end of the cruise they almost felt like family. On many stops we would have a selection of options from city tours, Scenic Free Choice, walking around by ourselves. The Taylor Devices would enable us to explore and the GPS would guide us to local attractions. The city tour guides were excellent, the off ship lunches and dinners were outstanding. We would definitely take another Scenic tour again! Read Less

We had decided on a luxury river cruise after going on ocean cruises. We picked Scenic tours after travelling with then on two previous tours. This cruise was truly a luxury cruise. All inclusive means just that!! Every thing was included , even the butler. Private concerts, tours, excursions along with excellent food and drink . We felt there was a perfect balance of excursions, events, and free time. Our tour director was excellent, along with the housekeeping staff. Attention to detail with everything. The food service aboard was the best we have ever had on any cruise. There was a huge variety of entrees with everything presented perfect. We had very good local guides on excursions, small groups, with plenty of time for questions. We were met at the airport with luggage taken care of and upon leaving the same. the transitions were seamless. This cruise was a lovely experience and we would highlyrecommend this river cruise and tour company Read Less

We are just back from our Amsterdam to Budapest cruise. It was awesome. I read here about the food choices were limited....well I beg to differ. The choices were fine. Usually 3 main choices as well as another standard 3 main choices. There were also choices with the appertisers, soups and deserts and the quality was excellent. The cabin was a good size for a ship of its size. We were in a Royal suite but I didn't hear anyone complaining about any of their rooms. As has been stated before you dont tent to spend much time in your rooms anyway. The demographic was as expected. Most were aged in their sixties and the ages ranged from late 40's to late 70's but age didn't seem to be a problem when it came time to party. The were a mix of nationalities. Still mostly Australian ( about 45%) with the Canadians close behind with the rest made up of Americans, Brits, Kiwis and a couple from Barbados The daily tours were many and varied or you could go out on your own. The staff were excellent they always knew what drink you wanted and were very attentive We felt special from the airport pickup till the airport drop off. I'm glad I chose Scenic and we do another tour with them in the future. Read Less

This was our first ever cruise - we normally "do our own thing" - so spending so much money was difficult to come to terms with. We had been travelling for 2 weeks prior and arrived in Amsterdam the same day as we embarked the cruise, thus it was great to unpack knowing we didn't have to see our cases again for 15 days. There are many areas one could sit comfortably - whether on deck in the sun or in a lounge area. Staff were always on hand to provide drinks but were never over bearing. From the outset it was clear this is a well oiled machine - professional from the top down - and yet always friendly and helpful. Kurt as the tour director had a 24/7 job and yet always showed enthusiasm and great humour. I'm sure our experience would have been lesser without his skill. The food was plentiful and catered for every taste; the wait staff although busy always had a smile and a chat. Onboard entertainment was varied; Guieseppie played piano and sang (although not always on key), local musicians and dances, informative talks and demonstrations. Excursions on shore were well organised with choices well documented in advance and great without exception. My personal highlight was the concert in the Arsenal in Vienna - exceptional venue with professional musicians and singers - wonderful. Of course I could rave about the beauty of the Rhine Valley, the amazing canal linking the Rhine to The Danube, Melk Abbey and the fun in Durnstein - but the icing on the cake was waking up in Budapest, drawing the curtains and seeing the sun rise behind the magnificent Parliament building. We may be converts to cruising after all. Read Less

Everything about this cruise was just fabulous, from the food to the entertainment. You could do as little or as much depending how you felt. The food was beautiful & the soups were to die for.The bar service was first class with the most cheerful bar staff you could wish for, with special thanks to Eddie,Martina & Rosita. All the staff from the the Captain all the way down were just fantastic.A special mention for Kurt who worked so tirelessly from morning till night to make sure that everyone had a holiday to remember. At night there was entertainment with the resident pianist who played and sang every night plus there was local singers and dancers from some of the countries that we stopped off at.We went through some of the most breathtaking country scenes on the Rhine and the Danube with stops at some of the most beautiful cities and towns,Melk being one of my favorite places. With so many people staying in such a small place,it only takes one person to be ill and it goes through the ship. This happened while we were on board.just like any transport that has air conditioning,it goes from cabin to cabin. That is the only complaint that i could find with this holiday, they need to improve on the quality of air being circulated from room to room. This is not just a scenic problem but every company that uses recycled air.All in all, with being sick on board,it turned a absolutely fantastic holiday into a fantastic holiday.Would not stop me from going again. From myself and my wife,we would like to thank every single member of staff that catered for our every need. We booked this cruise to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary and were not disappointed. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The ship is modern and well appointed and was kept spotlessly clean. The entire crew is a credit to Scenic and you were made to feel welcome at all times. The cabin had a balcony which increased the floor space and gave great views of the passing scenery. As we frequently travelled overnight and our cabin was located near the rear of the ship, engine noise was noticeable but did not affect sleeping - in fact you were more aware of it when the engines stopped and the quietness hit you! Our cabin steward was excellent and kept everything neat and tidy all day and constantly amused us with her 'towel sculptures'. The main dining room is very pleasant although sometimes a bit too busy in the evenings. The breakfast buffet gave a good choice and also provided a chef for the cooking of eggs and omelettes. Unfortunately the plate warmers were never turned on at this time and your food got cold too quickly. However you were able to order pancakes, eggs benedict, etc from the kitchen which came out on hot plates! A buffet lunch was available in the main dining room or from Cafe Rive in the main lounge - always a good choice of food. Evening meals were always a la carte with a good choice of courses. Overall dining was a good experience. Entertainment was provided - some acts were better than others! The shore excursions were well organised and enjoyable, with a good range of places to go and see. Some of the highlights for us were the windmills in Amsterdam, the chair lift in Rudesheim and a visit to the walled medievil city of Rothenburg where our guide was exceptional. All the trips were good. Overall this is a holiday we thoroughly enjoyed and we would consider another river cruise but for a shorter period of time. Also this cruise did involve going through 67 locks and lots of low bridges which means the sun deck is not always available for the use of passengers. Read Less

After looking at several river cruise companies, we chose Scenic because everything was included- drinks, mini bar, excursions, tips. The spaceship was beautiful and well maintained. Our balcony suite was very good. The clever window that could be raised and lowered meant full use could be made of the balcony whatever the weather. We liked the spacious bathroom with walk in shower, luxurious toiletries and soft bathrobes. The journey was straightforward. The journey by Eurostar and Thalys was straightforward. Meals were offered at each stage and we were met at the station and driven to the ship in a private taxi. The meals were first-class with plenty of choice. The food and wines were tailored to the area we were travelling through. The executive chef came to the port talk each evening to talk about dinner. The waiting staff could not have been more helpful. This was true of all the staff. One thing we particularly noticed was that all the staff from the captain downwards were willing to help each other out when needed. The on board entertainment was varied and of a high standard. The views were stunning. The offer of a glass of local wine as we sailed through the Rhine Gorge was most welcome. The ports were interesting and the guides were very knowledgeable. One aspect several of us thought could be improved was the Sundowner at the Alter Kloster. It would have been much better to have had this event on the sun deck. We did not realise that Scenic was an Australian company and were surprised that most of the guests were Australian. This did not detract from the cruise in any way because they were very friendly, if reluctant to follow the dress code. We would certainly consider using Scenic again. Read Less

Having been on several ocean cruises this was our first river cruise and it outstripped other cruising by a mile. Every single aspect was superb. The staff were amazing, every single person seem absolutely determined that we should have the perfect experience, the service was the best I've experienced. Embarkation and disembarkation was handled with great efficiency and comfort, excellent taxi services arranged to take us to our next destination. The food was to die for, and I loved the way the executive chef (George), would come out every night before dinner and give us a synopsis of what we were about to eat. Great the way he would go to the local markets every day to ensure the produce was the freshest and best. Fabulous the way everything was inclusive, especially having all the shore excursions paid for. We had some wonderful 'whole of ship' experiences; being taken to Marksberg castle for a medieval dinner was a high point, as was a private concert at the Lichtenstein Palace in Vienna. A special mention of the cruise director Hunor Nagy, for whom nothing was too much trouble. He went to the trouble of organising a special excursion to the Spanish Riding School for a small group of us who were disappointed to find we were not there on a day when there was a performance. There were several occasions when local entertainers were brought on board, and they were of an extremely high calibre, my favourite being the Hungarian dancers in Budapest. We were lucky to have perfect weather, too! Read Less

My husband and I chose to go with Scenic because it was recommended by a friend. Otherwise, we never would have heard of it. It's an Australian-based company and they don't marked much in the USA. We flew into Amsterdam a couple days early so we could explore the city. We rented an apartment through VRBO, which I highly recommend. Once we embarked onto the ship, we unpacked ONCE for two weeks of fun. The ship was spotlessly clean at all times and the service was always wonderful. The food...oh brother, so good and way too much of it. I recommend that you lose an additional 10 pounds so you can eat your way back to normal. There were most Aussies on the boat, which was great because they're loads of fun. The boat only held 169 passengers so it was very intimate. We got to know the bartenders right away and everyone knew what our preferred drink was by the second day. Scenic is great because EVERYTHING is included: booze, tipping, shore excursions, work out room (not that I used it), electric bikes, and even 2.2 kg of laundry after about 5 days. (Tip, don't do laundry before that because that does cost money. Just bring enough clothes.) Hair and massage are extra, but that's it. The rest is included. The cabins were cleaned every morning and the sheets were changed twice a week. All staff was GREAT! Most were from Serbia, Croatia, and that area. Our cruise director, Kurt, was phenomenal. He was hyper organized and funny. This guy knew his stuff. I would have liked a little more free time in some of the shore excursions, but you got enough of a taste of everything and it's hard to make everyone perfectly happy, though they did a pretty good job!! They also have these things called TaylorMade, which are GPS/listening devices so when you go on a guided tour, and there are MANY, you don't have any trouble hearing the guides tell you all of the interesting facts about all of the places you get to see. It also has another nice feature in which it will BING at you if you come across a point of interest while sailing down the river. You can't throw a rock down some portions of the Rhine without hitting a castle, so it's nice to know a little history about each one of them. My husband and I are planning to take another Scenic cruise in the next couple of year. They're not cheap, so save your money. Not to bash any other cruise lines, but I learned something interesting while on this cruise. Viking has 60 river cruise ships on those rivers. They can't train captains fast enough so they're promoting people from first mate to captain before they've really had enough experience to drive one of these beasts. There were TWO Viking "crashes" in the two weeks we were sailing. Scenic has fewer boats and captains with more experience. I don't know anything about other ship lines, but I would say to read up on them so you are SAFE. Also USE THE ANITBACTERIAL GOO provided before every meal. There a lot of people and a lot of germs. There were NO kids on this boat. I think I was the second youngest, at 52. It's a chill atmosphere, not a party cruise to Mexico. I can highly recommend this cruise with Scenic. Read Less

You could not fault the staff from the friendly involved Captain to the housemaids. All were exceptionally friendly and it gave the atmosphere of one big happy family - all committed to making our cruise perfect. The food was unbelievable and I can't believe other reports that talked about pork fillets and schnitzels. the a la carte menu at dinner catered to most tastes and they offered other options if it didn't suit. The food was cooked to perfection and 160 dinners were delivered promptly and with great attitude from the staff.Nothing was too much trouble and the wine flowed as did any other drink that you requested. Coffee and tea were also brought to the table on request. Breakfast was buffet or cooked as you waited and there were several options for lunch. The space of the deluxe suites was quite good for a river boat and the our director Kurt was organised, talented and super obliging. The night time entertainment was there for all to enjoy. Disappointed only in the fact that most moorings were not in a town and most excursions had to be accessed by a bus trip with several early starts. Scenic needs to make guests aware of this before booking. Read Less

after many, many Sundays spent cruising with Scenic all over the World from our lounge chairs, we finally made the decision to go on a real Scenic cruise for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and I have to admit there are no words to express how TRULY AWESOME it was. It far out weighed our expectations in every area, and believe me they were high. The Captain, crew and Staff were incredible and made us feel so special, The scenery was spectacular, the day tours were fantastic and catered for people in various stages of their lives. I never thought I would be going on a Scenic cruise and having so much FUN, but that's exactly what we had, we laughed, made lots of awesome new friends from around the World, Sometimes at breakfast it took us 10 mins to get to our seat saying good morning to the new friends we had made along the way. If the opportunity was available we would not hesitate to go around the World with Scenic. The age group was another concern of ours before going on the cruise, as we are both in our early 50's, but we found there was a really nice mix of ages from mid 40's up. Would I recommend a Scenic Cruise, without hesitation it was definitely the best holiday experience of our lives to date. Read Less

We chose Scenic because some friends had recommended them and following some visits to Travel Expos, we didn't see any reason to change our mind. Everything we wanted seemed to be all included and it was Everything from boarding the ship in Amsterdam and leaving in Budapest all went like clockwork. It was all very well organized. The crew were all very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. Kurt, the cruise director was excellent; very good at what he did. On most occasions when we left the ship for shore excursions and upon our return the Captain and/or the Hotel Manager were always there to wish us a good day and welcome us back on board. The ship was very comfortable and met all our needs. There was a wide range of food available to suit our dining needs. We didn't have the opportunity to attend all of the onboard entertainment as the return time from the shore excursions often didn't allow enough time to attend before preparing for the port talk and dinner. The shore excursions were great and very well planned and we usually had enough free time at most destinations. I would have no hesitation in travelling with Scenic again and would thoroughly recommend them to any prospective traveler. Read Less

Overall we were a tad disappointed by this Scenic cruise for the following reasons: 1. The quality of evening meals weren't up to what we expected given previous reports. Overcooked pork fillets and wiener schnitzel. 2. Despite some very good waiter service, the poor 25% let them down e,g. a) request for coffee 1st night at end of evening meal - "yes, the coffee machine is upstairs" b) re-fills of white wine simply poured on top without asking, problem was it was a different wine. Happened at least 6 times 3. Many people including ourselves caught the flu or a stomach bug, Highlights: 1. Very good cruise itinerary, all inclusive tours & 80% of guides were very good. 2. Our housemaid was a gem and the Captain was the most pleasant captain I have ever met. 3. Many people valued the all inclusive drinks service, We enjoy a drink at meals so not such a big issue for us and we had a Royal Suite Read Less

We had been on a Scenic one week river cruise down the Rhine 2 years ago and loved it. We decided to take a two week cruise even though the first few days were down the same part of the Rhine River. The nice part was that Scenic offers different options for your tours (all included in the cruise pricing and you can make your choice the night before) at the stops that they make, so we were able to see completely different places in the areas of the River we had been through the last time. After the first few days, we turned onto a different River and all the scenery was different. During the cruise, everyone from the Captain on down was always eager to make sure you had everything you wanted and knew that you only had to ask anyone if you needed something or if something wasn't right. At one point, we were on the top viewing deck when the sky just started pouring rain down on us. My wife uses a cane, and we were moving a little slow to get below deck when all of a sudden an umbrella appeared over my wife's head. The Captain had seen us from the bridge and had come running across the deck with the umbrella to cover my wife while we made our way down! Meals were always fantastic, from the buffet breakfast and lunch choices, to the evening dinners. For dinners, you always had a choice 3 main entrees (including a Vegetarian option) and 2 or 3 appetizers and soups/salads and deserts. If you didn't like any of the variable main entrees, there was always a choice of having the always available standbys of Rib Eye Steak, Chicken, Hamburger, or a Veggie item. Plus there was always the River Cafe on the middle deck which was always open with tons of different pastries and light food options such as fish and chips. (My wife and I only gained about 5 lbs, what with all the tour walks) Shore excursions were always well coordinated and the tour guides were always excellent. They usually had a group on each tour which was dedicated to slower walkers. We were well taken care of from the time we were met at the airport till the time we were taken to the airport to leave and walked through the check in procedures to make sure there were no issues. Both of our cruises with Scenic have been fantastic and we would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a wonderful cruise on any of there cruises! Read Less

My husband and I chose to repeat an Amsterdam to Budapest river cruise, but this time on a Scenic boat, because they offered different stops/excursions than the previously used company. I wish we had chosen Scenic the first time--this cruise was absolutely fabulous! I find it hard to identify anything negative about the company, the boat, the service; nothing at all was disappointing. First impression upon boarding the boat was unexpected--here's the Captain handing me a gorgeous long-stemmed rose and a warm welcome. Everyone working this boat, from Capt Igor; Capt Dan the Hotel Manager, Kurt the Cruise Director, Lt Michai the Restaurant Manager, Valerie our Butler, Milana our Steward, and all the others who worked to make our cruise memorable, were doing just that--working. On this boat the officers did not stand by and oversee--they were involved. Their commitment to service was observed every day; in their routines and in their responses to requests (and even response to an idle wish that was overheard). The excursions were great, and there were no short-cuts taken--guides were knowledgeable and tours often included tastings or entertainment. Our cabin was kept spotless, and Milana popped in several times a day to see if anything was wanted/needed. George, the chef, must have worked 24/7 because we've never seen so much food--it all was presented and tasted superbly--no reason for hunger on this boat! Another factor we liked was the price included everything: excursions, tips, beverages, everything. We highly recommend a Scenic river cruise; I'm doing some shopping now to find another one for us. Jewels of Europe We chose this cruise to see as much of Europe as we could as well as do a cruise. It met all our expectations and more, our only complaint was we were sometimes to exhausted to enjoy all that was on offer. Everything went like clock work in every aspect of the tour. The crew and staff were very friendly and helpful,And made the the cruise even better. History was the main focus of our trip, but as we are farmers a bit more of what the local areas grow would have been very interesting. The entertainment was second to none,a taste of all the different cultures. Also the fellow passengers were in our age group and very likeminded in their outlook. May was a great time to travel, not too hot,not too many queues and the rivers were still passable as the snow and rains had not effected them at that time. The buses that took us on the land part of our trip were very comfortable, drivers very helpful and good at there jobs.Sometimes the places they had to take the buses were unbelievable. It was a freezing sunny day when we boarded the Scenic Jewel, we were made to feel very welcome and our butler explained all amenities to us in great detail. We were on the top deck (diamond) and had choosen a junior suite. The cabin as with all river cruise lines was small with very little hanging space and one has to be a great packer to put everything away. However it was The bathroom that made us choose this suite as its larger and has a bath. The bathroom has plenty of room with a separate shower lots of space. Plus I had a hot bath at the end of almost evry day. There are lots of lovely bath salts and gels it was lovely. The Scenic Jewel is like a floating 5 star hotel, the decor, modern, simple and stylish. Everything is very clean and attention to detail sublime. The food is wonderful with plenty of choices, so much food. All drinks are served pretty much all day and are included in the tariff. If you wanted you could eat and drink all day long. There is a huge upper deck with ample deck & longe chairs. It was very cold during our trip but sunny not many clients braved the upper deck but we did and the views with all the castles were divine. All staff were first class and a credit to Scenic, in particular Raddo our barman who was very attentive to the point of when I got ill he made me a hot brandy lemon drink without prompting for my husband to bring to me in our cabin. Everyone on our cruise pretty much got sick, this was of NO fault of Scenic who went to great lenghts to explain to the guests why they needed to use hand sanatation but so many ignored this advise and those few morons infected us all. The day trips were plentiful with many great choices our only upset was we couldnt dock in Vienna (something about a bridge being fixed) this meant we had to moor 90 minutes away from Vienna and commute backwards and forwards. In a 18 hour space we spent a total of 7 hours on a bus meaning less time in Vienna. I was very disappointed with this as Vienna was the main reason we did this trip, however this was not Scenics fault so I cant blame them. The onboard entertainment is so bad its good. The entertainment brought on board at various cities excellent. The hairdresser and masseur were not as good as I usually have but they were certainly okay. If you want to get a wonderful overview of Europe in a 5 star floating hotel, with awesome staff, excellent food and unpack only once then I would suggest you take a river cruise, this one was our third (first with Scenic) and matched our expectations. This review is being written in 2 parts as the ship we were to board, the Scenic Crystal, got stuck in the Danube due to low water levels and we were to take the Scenic Jewel for the first half of the cruise and then transfer to the Crystal. We were welcomed aboard the Jewel by a very great crew. Service was first rate and the food was excellent. The crew were very friendly and many, including the butler and hotel manager even remembered our names. In this first week we got to enjoy some fine dining in Portobellos and the Table La Rive. In both cases the food and wine were excellent. The tours that we took were also great and we really enjoyed the visit to Siegfried's Mechanical Music Museum in Rudesheim. The one tour that stood out was the visit to the Johannes Deppisch Winery where we tasted some great wines, had a BBQ dinner and then were entertained with great music and singing. The one tour that was a little scary was the evening visit to the Marksburg Castle. The medieval banquet provided was great but the tour of the castle was rather dangerous. the pathways had very uneven stones, the lighting was poor and the stones were slippery in parts due to rain. I will end by saying that we had a great Cruise Director, Hunor, who was to continue with us on the second part of the cruise on the Scenic Crystal. Read Less

We booked our river cruise with Scenic Tours travelling from Amsterdam to Budapest from the beginning of June 2013. We had booked in the middle of 2012 so we were really looking forward to the whole experience. As reasonably seasoned ocean cruisers we knew that river cruising would be different but we expected from the Scenic Tours advertising that a high standard of life on board would be expected, and that the smaller sizes of ship would lead to smaller groups. The day before we left home we got an email saying that although we were booked on the Scenic Jewel it would no longer be possible to board this ship and we would be transferred to the Scenic Ruby in the same cabin number. However, as the Ruby was different to the Jewel we would be given a small refund. We landed in Schipol airport and were supposed to be met by a Scenic Tours rep. We couldn't find him and eventually the airport information office ran him to ground. It turned out that he was attempting to pacify another passenger who hadn't been told about the ship change. When we got on board the Ruby the welcome was warm and the offer of a cold drink and a snack accepted with alacrity. The Tour Director was helpful and knowledgeable but explained that as the waters on the Rhine and Danube were in flood we were unable to get under some of the bridges. This might have an adverse effect on parts of our cruise but that he was told that the situation would be rectified in a few days. We stayed overnight in Amsterdam and began cruising on that evening. By day 3 we were in Dusseldorf and were coached to Cologne, about two hours away. After a day's sight-seeing we re-joined the ship and travelled as far as Bonn where we docked. In that evening's briefing by the Tour Director we were told that due to the delay from flooding we could not now walk to the mediaeval castle where dinner was arranged, but would instead be bussed there - a total of four hours there and back. The next day we were supposed to travel to Rudesheim but the river was too dangerous and the ship's captain turned back and moored at Koblenz. by this stage we realised that the cruise was not going to take place even remotely as planned, but the Tour Director still kept insisting that we would visit the places as agreed, not on the ship but would do so by coach. Most of our fellow passengers accepted the situation but as we saw what was happening elsewhere on the river a few became quite upset. It was clear from the reaction of the other river cruise companies that we were one of the few cruise ships still trying to complete their voyage. At one stage we were tied up five abreast with four empty river cruise ships alongside. Their passengers had had their cruise cancelled and given refunds. Scenic Tours did not make this offer. In the event, we got increasingly longer bus trips to see villages and towns for shorter periods of time. Then we changed ships to the Scenic Jewel and tied up in an industrial basin for four days before being bussed on an epic eight hour journey to Scenic Pearl moored in Vienna. The only cruising on this stretch of the river was from Vienna to Budapest. This was not a cruise trip but an extended coach holiday. As a result of all the ship changing we did get to experience the different levels of service on board three of the Company's vessels. Most of the time the service and helpfulness of the staff were exemplary but on one of the ships the vessel hadn't moved for ten days and the staff were beginning to get fractious - and it showed! Some evening dining was waiter service but for breakfast, lunch, and most evenings the service was mostly on a buffet style, with a somewhat limited choice. However, the specialist dining room, Portobello's, was very good with fine food and wines and excellent service. The cruise was advertised as all-inclusive and while wine was from a selected list I understand that there was a charge made if a different wine was ordered. However, I never experienced that as I thought that the wines available were fair enough. Most of the passengers were Australian (as befits an Australian Tour operator)and many of them did not like the European wines on offer. The Tour Director stayed with the passengers throughout the various moves and attempted to control the situation as far as he could. He talked to us daily, sometimes twice daily, but was unable to get any information from his Head Office about the future of the cruise. Their attitude seemed to be to keep doing the same thing (putting the passengers on buses) and maybe the flooding situation will improve. In the event we missed out on huge parts of the Rhine and the Danube including some iconic areas like the Rhine Gorge, and Rudesheim, but Scenic Tours just shrugged their metaphorical shoulders and herded the passengers around on buses. We had been on the Rhine before so knew most of the sights so we enjoyed the on-board service and sitting in the sun. Consequently we only took the bus option when either we had to, say when changing ships, or if we really wanted to see an attraction. I can't say why Scenic Tours decided to press on with a doomed river cruise when the other cruise companies had cancelled. Maybe because the majority of the passengers were Australian and the cost of sending them home would have been too high? If it hadn't been for the buses and the three ship changes we would have had a good holiday. Read Less
